Dear Friend,
I loved Black Girl Magic at its inception, but I quickly realized the problem with Black girl magic and black excellence.
It's not very inclusive, it demands more than it gives and it feels like hustle culture by another name.
We needed "Black Excellence" and "Black Girl Magic" to celebrate and uplift ourselves, but we tend to use Black girl Magic or Black Excellence as a divisive tool to be exclusive instead of inclusive.
I also believe that hustle culture and grinding is glorified when Black women are already exhausted and tired. Black excellence is hustle culture by another name.
much love, joy and rest,
Alecia
