The physical nature of a career like firefighting seems obvious, but some firefighters don’t train as much as others. Why is that? You have to put on a bunch of heavy gear and walk/climb around in an environment that could kill you. Going into this kind of environment with as much physical training and fitness as possible would certainly be to your advantage. Unfortunately, not all firefighters train the way they probably should.
On this episode, I talk to firefighter and fitness trainer, Fred Mohr. He has been in the fire service since 2004 and it truly is his passion. He shares with me his story of getting into the fire service (pretty funny), a little bit about the training to become a firefighter, his experience with the steel mace and why it’s such an important tool for first responders and even non-first responders.
We dive into a little about how to change the culture to emphasize health more and what changes we would love to make and see.
