Debbie Madsen and her mother were living in the Dix Addition of Manhattan in 1993. That portion of MHK was drastically damaged in the flood that summer. Debbie witnessed how the community came to the aid of her and her neighbors, and was inspired to work as a volunteer. Nearly 30 years later, Debbie has been nominated as a "Distinguished Volunteer" at the upcoming Community Foundation Awards (thecfas.com)). She's a regular volunteer with the Flint Hills Breadbasket, Habitat for Humanity and the First United Methodist Church, among others.
