Next week is going to be a big one for apple. In this episode of the macro podcast, we talk about all the things we can expect. I O S, eighteen point one new and for max and more. Stick around and find out what's coming up.

The first major update to IOS eighteen is coming up next week um and previews of the new hearing eight feature for the airports pro to the verge in the water street journal mentioned that the feature will include IOS eighteen point one. An apple told them that the update will be available next week.

So we're to talk about that. But first we going to talk about some news that came out, uh, the morning of when we are recording this, recording this on tuesday. So there's some news that came out about the m for mac .

yeah updated rumors. Yes, yes, yes. So mark .

government from bloomberg as reported that next week we're gonna see the m for max being released. And he has reported in the past that these uniform maximum include the macbook, cw, a imac and a new redesigned mac mini.

all of them for import chips.

Yeah, it's still kind of unclear whether there's going to be like a big event. He keeps saying there will be online. yeah. Video.

so last year they had the scary fast event the day before halloween at eight o clock and night eastern time.

Yeah, IT was this kind .

of random little, you know, they really leaned into a halloween stuff but I didn't need you like IT was just a way for apple to get some attention. Yeah, IT was an m three chip. I was, I was the macbook prose and IT was gray was fine.

But it's something, 对， an apple .

special event.

Yeah, right? Uh, which is me streaming as opposed to what they do sometimes, which is they just release a new product. It's there's a press release, there's a new fancy glossy page on the site. There may be market of media to go with that and there's a fenty marketing video to go with that. That's full cg, but it's not tim cook out there of saying we think you're gonna love IT, right?

We've seen that before too. I I mean, IT looks like by this point. So where this is, we recorded this on tuesday, october twenty second. You would have think if they're gonna have a event, it's either next monday or next tuesday, they could announce the erratically a couple days before if they are not going to get people to go out to apple park, if it's just a an online thing they can to do whenever they want.

IT seemed as though we probably know by now government has kind couched all this by saying that it's not have people gather in apple park. And IT makes me believe that is going to be a bunch of pressure. This is but there's a lot of stuff.

We got the import chip for mac, which is different than the import chip. Like that's a stretch of announcement. So I mean, I don't know, maybe maybe we'll just get them all in one day and they'll just pop up on apple's website.

Like you said, the m4， it's not really different than the .

one that's in the ipad. No, but not not what means .

they don't talk about speeds and fees and all. They'll just that could just be like so powerful whenever the only one that's really new new would be this new mac mini. The make many yeah um like actually looks new, has a different design stuff like that. It's weird because even when they don't have people out to apple park and stuff, if it's one of those apple special event videos that have so whole thing they do announce them and they have like a marketing .

yeah and it's .

like a weak tag line that everyone tries to decide. And it's always that's always at least week before, right? IT would have popped up by now. You would .

think you today or or yesterday .

yeah so and we haven't seen IT. So yes, yet weird. But however they choose to announce IT, that's what's coming. It's apparently coming with a set of new accessories. Things have been found in in sort .

of the release candidate to do that left that has lightning at my so it's .

new magic keyboard trackpad in my mouse. Uh, we're not expecting redesigns like the mouse is still going to not feature be the beautiful list to worst mouse ever. Like IT doesn't fit your hand.

IT doesn't have tacked out buttons. It's just like swipe somewhere on the surface and you'll know which like what things they are doing a and till charge on the bottom. But it'll be U, S, B, C like that.

That's kind of what's expected. Maybe great if we were all wrong, at least for the else. But I think I think they sell up or try pets than my care that much. Probably buy yourself lunch to take mouse people, but yes so they've tt a reuptake CT their keyboards and stuff like that. This is their chance to do that.

Um so the other major mac change we could hear about us theyve been rumors about the base and for macbook pro uh coming with sixteen 一个 bites of memory instead of eight and having IT IT .

has to right yeah .

and having three thunder able ports instead of two two .

years later at least yeah。

So I creates a little bit more of a separation between that that laptop and the macbook air that's .

actually so roman rode about a month ago, maybe three weeks ago. Like if that's true, the rumors are true. If the base model for fifty nine, nine, they keep the same press, has sixteen, six, zero, five gig, the storage, the same display, the promotion display and three, three doable ports, and comes in space black, that's pretty. They am good for fifty ninety nine. And you can probably get IT for less within a couple months on amazon like that's a legitimately good entry level pro machine for apple standards at least.

Well, that's the fifty, ninety and nine Price point is the key, right? Yes, I think so.

And I think I think that they'll leave IT there because if they don't .

get to change everything because .

the right one, but it's it's the pro 的 M3 pro 对 processors。 So you're getting know a bit more speed, a quite a bit .

more speed and started the pro processors. Didn't they never came with a gigs to be .

in with was sixteen.

They need to do this at least .

on the pro models because there yeah that's what they are .

also separated from the year.

well separated. That's the consumer view but just the um there their x code um A I co generation requires sixteen gigs. All the other consumer A I stuff requires eight uh and IT runs on anything from another one.

But uh if you want to use there, if you're writing code and you want to use their fancy new x code A I co generation, they talk about you need sixteen. So that's now kind of the table stakes for any promotion, I think. But just not to mention that IT IT should have always like for a while now, finally should give almost feel bad, giving them credit for.

Sixteen gigs in the pro book book starting at that. Are you thinking about buying a mac? this? Do not buy one. You can them.

Now what one now yeah, anything but like .

a mac studio is going getting completely by this in significant, faster.

the extra RAM and the that man is getting a redesign.

Definitely you're get U. S. B, C. Access is do not buy back. Great IT .

seems like next week is gonna a big week for a work.

So I do. They would have started this week and have like something come out today, something come out tomorrow, something come out next to because they they do that. Sometimes we get them ipad last week, but we didn't.

So I could be like monday day, wednesday is day. Like something different comes out each of those days. If there is .

Mark german reported that there will be a hands on for special invites in last Angeles on october thirty, which is a wednesday at wednesday.

wednesday yeah so, uh, but Jason mention the O S updates and I O S we know also that I O S eighteen point one is coming on monday. That also includes ipad .

And the reason why this updates kind of a landmark date is because IT will be IT will include the first way of apple intelligence .

features.

You know the .

features are actively promoting yes.

is existing now yeah yeah.

Before we're get to those that I mean, I got i've got our release now right here, but let's talk about what IT gives to everyone first because IT is also it's going to be available for all the iphones stuff and it's not just apple intel gent stuff. There are a couple of the things, uh, worth note. First of all, obviously, security updates, there's a they're not listed on the website yet.

The usually wait to the wide release before they published with the security updates are but there will be a budget security updates. That's noble. Um probably the big one for people who don't have at least an iphone fifteen pro or an iphone sixteen.

So the people who aren't getting up to your stuff is the phone call recording stuff that's gona be available to to every I know everyone, at least every iphone thirteen and up or something like that. Um but you call recording and transcription that going notes is available to many iphones. The summary of the to call transcripts where IT automatic creates to the summary of IT.

That's an AI feature just for the new phones. So that's cool. Uh building call recording is awesome. I tried IT out, really need IT just plays a quick beeps and place a quick calls recorded to everybody and then yeah, you get up, get a actual little recording and transcript, which is not terribly accurate, but you can tell what what went on a in your notes that automatically it's really cool. There's a couple of camera.

Things like this is just for the new phones, but they made the camera control button able to switch to the front camera, uh, IT would Normally just switch between the lenses on the back. And they added space al photo capture to the iphone 4 pro。 Did you suggest you special video the big one and is but a tiny stuff like R C S business accounts and stuff that um there's a new tweet to control center, like you can get your individual wifi connection button instead of having the big connectivity button, you know the big window is the airports, the all the hearing stuff.

airpower s pro, whether you've .

got the lightning or the U S B C version, a firm work update for that and that those get pushed out kind of randomly. There is no way to force IT. We've got stuff on the site that says had to check what your firm are updated, but will be a new firm update for that.

So you need the always update info where update. Then you can take a hearing test. You can use hearing aid features.

Hearing protection features are on by default and then there's there's sort of A A media assist feature that like even if you're hearing isn't bad and you need to hearing gate for voice, uh IT will tune music and video playback from your device to your exact sort of hearing loss. And uh, as is measured, that can make a big difference. So that's a really big deal feature for everyone with pots for two. And then of course, i'll like you the first wave of A I stuff, which ged I have a feeling is not gonna .

go over well, is IT is IT safe to say this is the most anticipated that what iowas I said I was, Michael was released IT .

like of all time. It's gotta just because, like they just launched a product that is all about these features. And this is the first of these features.

I don't think your average every day user even has any include what these things are. They see a commercial. They think if I buy an iphone sixteen, I get that they don't know that there's like a software updated, know when IT comes.

Most people just see their phone just like weeks from now, will pop up a thing, thing, a data. I, A sixteen point one, you know, those aren't necessarily macro podcasts. Listers, I think the problem is can be boiled down to the idea that that these A I features are not what people think of when they think of A I yes.

is the generative stuff, which still is a couple weeks away.

yeah, I mean, I mean, these are general of A I features, but they are not the ones that people think. People think of the ChatGPT style. I I type a short prompt.

I got paragraphs and text back, like, you know, right? Write me up letter asking my boss for rays, keep IT formal blood. Then you get like a big letter, right? Like this doesn't do that. What they do is you wrote a bunch of text and you select IT and IT can change IT to be more professional, more casual like I 就是 在 that's not highly anticipated feature from people。 And they also like of photos, like because because A I photos are all over social media and stuff, and everybody sees anything that looks fake and goes over A I and stuff and this there's no A I photo stuff in this either other than the light clean up tool in the photos that so yeah I think people are gonna like that's IT summarizes .

my notification yeah but I mean it's so it's not a terrible job of letting people know this who aren't writing from actions, but it's going to all this stuff is rolling out over the next six months. Most people do not know that. Know that I like Jason said, probably thirty percent of people don't let me realized they don't have apple intelligence yet like they thought the phone.

They assume its on there. Maybe they haven't found IT yet. Maybe he has been done something yet, but they don't realize that is a software I have seen.

I've seen a couple social media posts for people say something diverging about apple intelligence and it's a series suggestion which has been a part of BIOS for years. It's just serious suggesting an APP or shortcut, right and and they're just like so yes, so that's a problem and they're really stepped in IT with theory because yeah that's been .

heavily promoted .

yeah up until now that like that's been that syria likes a google assist. Those have been what people think of as A I like these things yes. And IT syria has gone through a rough few years of people complaining about IT. They're finally coming out with the big update, but this is IT IT looks like IT is right. So looks like we've been talking .

about like there's a whole commercial now where yeah they do the thing in the school and the phone glows and it's like, but I agree, but that's all to do at all that to do is the office .

yes IT IT IT a IT close around the screen IT. It's nice that you can still look, produce the screen while let glows like you can White scroll, which you couldn't do before. You can type the theory by double tapping at the bottom, which you couldn't do easily before uh, and it's Better at understanding your problems, like when you are an odd change your mind in the middle of talking.

But IT doesn't start smarter. IT doesn't do anything. New year, right? That stuff you see on the commercial where kind of knows that you we're texting this guy before and what you talked about, the stuff that sort of semantic thing .

like that's all coming months .

from now yeah next year in much yeah.

I don't know how apple allowed that marketing to can happen now if they push that in february, right? But that's even sell the phone. Yeah and it's like like people don't understand that this is and that the honestly, the commercial doesn't really make IT clear that is coming later. It's probably in fine print to the bottom, but it's not like in your face like this is not available right now.

So so anyone with an iphone 4 pro or any of the new iphone sixteenth is gonna get the software updates sometime in the next couple weeks from them and serious gona immediately look different。 And that sounds a little different because this is also the new voice model. So IT IT has different inflection a little bit, but it's gonna just as dumb as before. And it's gonna really make people angry because they going to this the best apple can do, they going to think this is the big update and it's terrible.

something of a placable al effect at the start, where people say about serious so much marter. And then they realized, I get actually is I have.

you know, i've seen to go the other way because i've seen IT, i've seen IT where they didn't change theory, but they changed the way looters or .

sounded in some way here.

And people think it's worse. They changed in its worse here is the same pull like the police vo affected reverse kind of think so yeah, that's that's all happening and that's not going to be good. The clean up tool, I think people are gonna ve IT. It's not always perfect, it's not always spot on, but I think it's a knee if they can find IT in editing a photo and hit, edit, click to all stuff like the idea that just makes sp glow and need to tap IT IT anisha IT it's not like other companies haven't had this before. But I think people are gonna love that there's just this is not the set of the eye features that is gonna everybody go like, oh wow, apple until gent is so 啊 so it's gonna at least the next one when they get the image generation and they can have something fun to play right， right.

which should be coming before the end .

of the year.

So if you get on for Christmas all over the holidays, unlike dutch, will be able to be part of IT with an update.

The other thing is supposed to be coming for the end of the year is integration with ChatGPT, where if if the apple intel gent can't answer a question for you, you can send your question to ChatGPT. Or if you have a photo and you say like what's this, whatever, and he doesn't have that kind of general knowledge to run IT on your device, you can send that image to ChatGPT and get your answer. I think that's going to be really useful for people.

There's kids not to be any log in involved. It's gonna just that one piece of information anonymize. It's not like it's sending your whole photo library to open a eye, anything like.

So I think people are gonna like that, use that. But again, at least a couple months away. yeah.

So what you guys are saying is there as soon as I S. Eighteen point one drops, you can take your time installing.

And I think I think it's a big deal. I think it's interesting. I think that people should play with the new apple intelligent stuff and get to know IT as much as they can.

But yeah, it's not it's it's and it's all this is all apple self inflicted because had they not promoted the hacked out of this along side, the iphone sixteen and the ipad mini next week, talk about that. So ipad mini comes out tomorrow. It's both three years late and a week early because they can't get apple next day. But the timing is all messed up with this stuff. It's not somebody that the product is bad, it's that they're overselling, IT and selling in in all the one are marketing in .

other right ways. Yes, there very marketing characteristic for apple. Yeah, they're marketing as though all these future software updates are real now and gonna disappoint people.

I think I think so yes, I I think it's a fine update. I just think it's not gonna. Um people aren't gona understand that this is just like the first of many and it's not all everything and .

they are gonna like when when you install IT is going to be like apple intelligence is here, like it's a thing yes, no pops of part but also isn't .

really yeah one of the nicest features of apple intelligence. And I don't know how many people are going to find this or use IT, but the search in photos is really good. Okay like the the ability to just use natural language to describe a photo that you're looking for have specifically as you want and IT will pull that photo from how many years ago from your photo library.

It's really need like you got have to like thinking your brain about what key words the system wants. You can just say that picture of mike when he were the blue hat. Um we were at a baseball game last year and I will just get up. Here's here's those things.

Um so maybe you don't need to rush after install eighteen point one for the apple intelligence .

features. But like I i'd go get IT. I've get getting .

on the day and I see if you have .

an iphone 7， if you don't you still getting other features that we talk about the minutes ago, but if you have an iphone six thing, get IT, get IT earlier than you Normally might. You don't need to drag your feet .

on IT yeah I just just temper your expectation, get IT for security updates alone just but like, yeah, just just this is not the big update that you wanted to be. This is a great well.

if you do have an iphone sixteen, there might be a reason another reason why you wanted installed the update as soon as possible. That apparently includes a fix, uh for a freeze and restart bug that some users are experiencing with the iphone sixteen. I've been using an iphone sixteen plus. I have one weird instance where just suddenly we started but other than what .

I was trying to do screen and I needed to do IT relatively quickly, and I wouldn't respond. So is a thing that's fairly widespread.

I had an APP freeze up, but that happens sometimes anyways. And if the system didn't freeze up, I could close the APP and we launch IT. And I just thought, like, well, you have bugs like that happen all the time. He didn't occur to me that that there might be a system problem.

What what about IT is that I took apple so long to fix IT because this has been almost since day one. We've read about these reports. They came out the point of one update.

Usually that's when they do all the house cleaning stuff. So perhaps there was a bigger issue then we knew and but they would have resolved IT in eighteen point one. So you've got a couple of days. If you are experiences, it'll be over in by monday.

It's really interesting to watch apple scramble to quickly rea software, right? Yeah like this whole thing is because they can there are used to be in the driver seat works, just like we can wait till next year's thing to bring out this one. Now they can't another like what we really we can't wait to iphone seventeen for any of this.

So like that they're whole mad scramble to quickly get A I stuff built into their O S. And all the developer hops for and everything else I get IT out while developing in shipping products. And the products can't be late.

They can't delay the products by a couple months, the stock will go crazy. So like this whole mad scramble with apple to like a cram geni like watch if you take a that back. I mean.

there are the only company that has this many Operating systems to update every single year. And now they're doing all of A I stuff too, like it's pretty remarkable that they take a lot of criticism for things and they should when things go wrong. But you know the fact that they're able to do any of this on the scale that they have to do is on the time for me that they have to do IT is you it's it's really impressive to watch.

Yeah but know when things don't work a month, that's also a problem. Sins since fifteen macco as fifteen point one comes out monday. Do you think as you think that will see and another macbook pro or something on monday and then the O S update with IT or they're going to just leave them like this is this is that intelligence is day and we'll get to the hardware on tuesday.

I I don't think that there's necessarily any reason that they would need to like line those out. Great because it's not like you can. It's get them back day.

It's going to ship on friday anyway. It's going to come with eighteen, but one. And if anything, they want to give a little space between them that already seems like very close together. But yeah, I hope this release time tiles been .

october plus they have their earnings next thursday. So I got to be done you for that too. Yeah, like it's it's it's .

well to the the quarter, like the quarter ended up. This all still counts in the next quoter anyway. But they want these things released before they have to have their well, but before they have to have their earnings back. Yeah it's a another .

promotional yeah yeah and they can say .

like they'll say like our holiday minus is set rather than right. We have great products coming done. The line like they can't kind of strategy that like something my guess is before there is that everything i'll be out one way of the other yeah.

by the end of next week is there's nothing left this year other than like the software of date. We just talked about the next round of A I stuff. There's no product expected, no rumor in any way to come out.

There's not like we are to know there's not new air pods max coming or anything like. so. So I think where we're done for the year after next week, just often where the regular march of software days.

it'll be an airport. It'll be another. They're going back to .

There are like another router about this second. I feel like my my time machine that I use. I love that thing.

Yes, that's the kind, that's the kind of thing. Yeah they can drop in december. Just feel like, look, apple T V four k three year whenever .

added a new power that's about all the midnight .

replace space grade, which you can tell them you put side by side and yeah, it's been a while since the million. Then the home pie was, I think last Jenny, where is something when they got that second edition for out of the blue? Yes, but I don't think that that are one of those ideal intelligence is able to .

be run on them because right yeah, that seems IT seems like the next step for whatever this home part with the screen knew thing that they're working on is and then hopefully also theyll be updating cheaper home points so that you get real apple intelligence features or at least doing something software words like, well, we're going to send the request your phone so your phone can do IT.

And then just this i'll be the speaker for because it's going to be really weird to be a once apple intelligence gets its new theory update next spring. And your when you have all that semantic context to know that other kind of stuff, it's gonna be really weird when you are home pod is like a dr. theory.

Well, I wonder how many people use home pod for series stuff other than playing music? Yes, I wonder.

I wonder what I use mine for. I never replying. Music really. It's like not a great music playing. Like if you have, like, I have a decent and a decent sono sound bar. So like like that sounds way Better for playing music.

That but my kitchen, something i'll play, something I never really interesting.

No, I all I use IT for is add, except to my grocery list, asking a general question hold, is this actor whatever below which he has got much, much, much Better at in the last couple years? The general knowledge questions? Not i'm getting a lot fewer of those.

Like, like I don't know you can I can search on your phone if you want. Like, like we didn't check your phone for like a web result like that. I'm getting a lot less of that, a lot more where IT just gives me an answer and says this is from whatever half of my half of my series search questions are whether or not my dog can need something. To be fair, can dogs have broadly um yeah actually this control .

yeah but there's .

a lot they care and it's it's not that you wouldn't know like reasons like have a reason it's ah yeah so. So yeah, that's most of what I used my theory y my home pod for this is here.
