Hello, and welcome to the apple to podcast. This is your host, westly hileman and I joined once again by a William gallagher. I'd like to think our sponsors this week, oracle in notion and we're going to dive into everything apple announced this week.
It's you know heavy lifting three day work week. I'm sure they're very, very exhausted over there. But first, I like to mention if you are a paid subscriber, uh, you get this show, add free and apple inside.
Plus we're going to be discussing and how we decide upgrade and basically, when we change out our gear, what gear we decided to buy that kind of thing also. Well, apple had their earnings on thursday evening and well, they predictably did IT. amazing. This is the iphone quarter kind of I think they have like a whole two weeks of sales, but that is usually enough to take what is usually kind of a jury summer and turn IT into something a little more exciting. I'm sure we're all very excited for apple to make even more money so they can continue to not sell .
apple vision pro globally or bring apple card globally lately, hopefully not put ads on apple TV plus that would be good like that.
Maybe this is enough to convince them.
Yeah, I think we should break down though the figures though because that earning result, the net revenue for the quarter that is actually more than I earn in a year. And i'm you know really quite impressed as a debt of my financial analysis for shocking yeah .
and possibly is too .
much money to be envious of isn't you can't quite conceive you i'm not even sure if that .
was ten cook on the call that might have been an AI voice. Do you think apple intelligence is doing all the earnings call now?
okay. You are you worrying me? I've got this rule. I mean, I i've set for on this, but if you get A I to do work for you, i'll just get my AI to read IT or listen to IT for me, IT was just cut you off completely there. So if IT isn't, if IT isn't my mate tim telling us the truth from apple park, then I just don't want to know. I feel personally let down .
a bit of a sad one last day for look of my history, right? He's not gonna at the next to learning.
Yes I mean I wid can bai spell his name. Sorry look at and i'm obviously never met him and of course he's never heard me, but we've had him around for so long and we've got so used to how we delivers certain results have been no of obvious ly is very positively but the certain spin he always puts on IT that yeah just fail like your colleague how to say a friend .
that would be you know who I nominate .
for the new earnings call is a year no.
I think IT should be the guy from the Prices right now.
Okay, tim, cool. Come on down. No.
we we're talking about this much money. We need the excitement behind that, right? There's someone really hype apple up.
right? This much money on its own isn't enough excitement for you as well because it's not yours or not mine, right? Yeah, you've be a bit more thrilled if IT were so yeah.
can you forget when we get checks in the mail for being van boys?
I forgot that it's call my mind listed under bribery in my tax return. yeah.
So instead I was had a fun week. I wanted to bring this up because just little news here for the nerds. I am excited. We have kind of three major announcements ish. I the third once old news but it's coming soon no .
second hang on, when you said there were three announcements, I assumed you met yeah the imac that that means I haven't a faint intense like a games company right they and there of system existing sorry, I just time of the managers and they've done, what a week for people to make three announcements.
sorry. For then you've got their start, I believe, like most companies selling rice and children's s toys. And then they evolved into video games.
But the a pokemon trading card game is now out on IOS. IT is amazing. I'm playing on my ipad.
Many IT is actually, I feel like the perfect game for an ipad mini. IT is built for IT. I know, have no interest in this wood. Am, so what?
Move on. But I have questions. Pokemon, heard of them, pick you. Very cute. I know you apply, you've gotto find them all presumably, or else I don't quite know why.
But the trading, like if I haven't seen, we just got to pickture against them and then only others. If I haven't seen pickture, but you have, you can basically loan me your site. What is this site?
What is the train? Her game? You know, maybe magic the gathering, desiring a bill.
So, um no, all the american does. Does the U. K. Have a trading card game? You like trade playing cards at the queen.
Like what's I I know, training cards stuff is being definite american. Things like baseball cards is where I first heard of IT and american kids putting baseball cards in. This spoke of their bike wheel or something.
I've fake ly heard of that. None of that goes on here. I mean, i'm not a great source because it's fairly that sport related, but no.
I remember a time in my childhood when everything had playing cards ah you could buy dragon balls. I they even had like like games you could play with them, right? So poking on you battles them or magic you you have kind of, I don't know, a doll in the uga partenza, whatever.
But like then there is like dragon and baLanced where you get these cards and you could play them as well. Like there's all these weird off shoot. I wouldn't be surprised if there was playing cards for every major franchise in the early two thousand just because for some reason, I think everyone to capture the poking on magic.
But now you can capture IT in your pocket for free unless you want to pay money for the trading card game. It's really cool. It's actually really well made.
It's beautifully done, very nintendo. You kind of open your card packs and then you can trade or or go into battles and stuff. It's it's neat. And if you don't have to pay any money unless you want to and they're pretty generous about not making you pay. So if you want my friend code, just reach out to me on method on you can add me.
Yeah, rush to do that. I do have more questions and i'm not in any way dissing for IT, but IT is this whole other world. But that's an nice number one, isn't he said, there are others.
Yes, up next is to music. this. This is for you, volume.
I know you're a big fan of video game music, so now there is a separate APP. This is, this is huge for me. I love this.
This is a great concept. It's a little annoying that it's not like a feature of apple music. I get IT nano wants their own proprietary streaming service.
Um you get that through the nintendo online subscription, which is relatively inexpensive. I can't remember the Price off the top my head, but it's something like a long lines of fifty dollars a year. You get access to multiplayer and everything, but you also get this now IT actually honestly makes the subway pan more worth IT.
But anyway, you can install this on IOS and android and play music from generations of video games are adding more all the time. But the key here is it's not just a music player. They're really leaning in human creation, our curation, human curation.
Um this is a very apple thing and intent is always kind of emulated apple in this way. They're never first anything they don't care about being. They just care about making sure the customer is a good experience.
So theyll make a legend as elder game as on this console that's know seven years old. But they're still make IT one of the best games ever, even though they don't have the latest technology and like they're just really good at that kind of stuff. This music APP is made with a bunch of players based on characters. You can listen to a baza inspired playlist or they have like sleep players and stuff.
But the two unique features to this APP, the first one is you can talk spoilers so if you don't want to be spoiled for a video game, you haven't play jet, you you can say, hey do not play music, spoiler music from this game and IT won't in in the shuffle er in the players, which is excEllent and option to which I think is incredible, is in many, many songs. You can go to this little talk le at the bottom and say, play the fifteen minute version of this song, play the one hour version of this song. So if you want to listen to the wee shop channel music for one hour straight, there is now a way to do IT.
You know, I had to remember waking up one morning with the theme to lemmings in my head from so long ago for a that was not A A happy dream. I came out, I like, I mean, I wouldn't know the music that not happen to play games, but I have friends to write them. And I have had quite before streaming.
I had quite a large collection of soundtrack albums from films and things, and I love the way that films, what kind of the modern day version of syphon is you? Most symphonic music is that way now. So I imagine that this is brilliant, especially if you know any of that stuff. So, okay, even, even Better.
I wanted to bring IT up is because IT honestly is it's going to be killer for a ambient music, sleep music. There's just so much audio in nintendo o games and consoles that will work in that environment, right?
Like the uh there's this people who might who have owned a wee console know this, but there's a little like kind of wind and bells jingle on the home screen of the wee that if you left IT on in another room, IT would just play this little too little jingle. You can just play that for hours straight now and just fall asleep to IT if you want to. I I am excited for this.
They don't have a lot of my personal favorites like they have the latest Zelda and pokemon games, but there going to have to add the older ones. And because I want to listen to little vert town on repeat, but moving on, awesome. I think the apple side of this is I listen to video game music and apple music, but IT ruins the algorithm.
You listen to one video game sound track or jazz rendition or anything. That is all you'll be recommended until the end of time unless you've tagged off your recommendation engine, which is such a chore, I wish I could shortcut this or honestly, really apple, i'll say IT again, give me the option to say. Do not use this album, do not use this playlist for my recommendation engine. Just let me have a single tagle under the hamburger menu throughout apple music .
that's IT a kind of private browsing mode sic, though i'd never remember trip back on again. Um so just .
a per album together. Honestly, you can thumbs, you can thumbs, you can say never recommend anything like this and that's all I want. And finally animal crossing pocket camp is getting its uh complete edition so to speak.
No online mode, no and that purchases IT is just the animal crossing pocket camp experience we all love without the microtron actions. That's cool. If you like animal crossing, if you played this game seven years ago, they are ending the online service, but they're giving the ability to play IT forever for only ten dollars.
right? And now to the .
important news.
has someone else been launching things or getting things down? Yes.
no. This is not a video game podcast. We're getting to our week of max, where apple announced that you will soon be able to the video game.
I'm just so a week of max maciel calendars for an exciting week, three day week. But you know I mean, maybe i'm wrong as you record this, who knows, record programs on thursday. So they come on friday morning even as we speak, apple might actually be sneaking out some other mac related thing, but we know IT isn't a mac product.
Take please. They said IT isn't. I was hoping .
for me .
something .
when I was .
hoping for a max studio, but I think actually gona got one in new mac mini. And i'm very good about final cut pro, the new updates to that whenever that's coming, and they're just kind of slid that by one. So i'm jumping ahead. You were about to say serious stuff.
yes. You know, maybe the fourth day earnings in the fifth days, ten cook resigning, we don't know, but we have three days of announcements. They won predictably, the imac.
Uh, there's new colors. I think they're the same colors like that. If you name the colors, they're the same names. But there are new vibrancy.
So that and the in four chip and a twelve make a pixel webcam with centre stage and nano texture as an option. That is the update that is everything so easy PC moving on, uh, tuesday. Now we skip over that wednesday. There is a next book pro we'll get to IT um because these are the easier ones ah the macbook pro got the m four m four pro and in four max, predictably space black all the way around the russians, uh, must have had real .
products ah. This I would forgot about that .
three hundred four .
ports and .
the base in for model. Then you get thunder five for the in four pro and four max. That would have been the real swoop, but they did not get those models.
So you just send me to laugh that I cannot help IT whenever somebody says you have thunderbird e and things, I hear thunderbird fire the gerande son thing and I just cannot disconnect the two so I just get highly tickled. I mean, presuming the next one is thone about six. So there was a time about right when we get to thunder seven. Maybe i'll stop being quite silly about IT, but for now, giggles. Okay, yeah.
another web came improvement. We'll make a pixel up from the hd one before, I suppose, because before I was just garbage. A B, G, A, basically format web can anon of four eighty. what? I don't even know anymore, but I was just bad. And then we moved to the ten N, D, P, capable web camps and now were at twelve makes pixel which is just to imply quote quote kinder fork it's so gonna show you at ten eighty is just a much Better tenny it's going to be more pixel dance brighter, Better um also nano texture uh available in the macbook pros you like I said the in four and four pro in four max about five that's that's pretty much IT correct, I believe so actually .
i'd missed that the camera was improved. That's quite maybe .
making that up, but i'm pretty sure both the imac and the macbook got improved cameras scrolling through or compared like a precise center stage camera with S. Q. Yep, that is upgraded as well.
great. Were you surprised about the ano texture bit?
I was not. But because I mean, if you bringing in IT to ipad, I feel like it's i'll be good for portables. But I did have someone actually asked me today in for macbook air in the spring, correct.
Will we be seeing anode xtra on that voice? I think no, because apple is treating anorexia as a pro feature. So macbook pro, and I understand that I make is an April computer, but also replaced what used to be apple computer.
There's no more twenty seven and imac, no more imac pro, so that makes sense. But I can't see the macbook air because ipad air also did not get any texture. Apples going to say just buy a macbook pro. And I think the distinction here is the in four base macbook pro you can buy, you can put in a texture on. So that's I think that's the key here.
No, he feels like they need to keep some clear different due between the air and the part. That's a seemingly obvious one.
Yes, in this place, support across the line is Better. So three, two displays to the in four, three displays in four pro. Then you can have two displays on the imac. And now finally to the important update that everyone was anxious for USB c on magic accessories, right?
I thought the'd build up to that. I thought I actually that was gonna the thursday and friday thing, friday to try back thursday the keyboard. But no, they just checked IT at us.
Well, as I genuinely, I wonder about, as a writing thing, the choice of when they chose to show what I mean last year, I think to know which product IT was there was a launch video with IT that looked like IT had been part of a bigger event and they just cut IT out and did IT this time is very clearly built to be three short product for their lunches. But I would thought you'd build up to the mac mini as the last one because IT was the most dramatic zone. Or maybe you'd start with that one. But I think IT in the middle of a book ended. I was pressed.
did you notice the apple intelligence portion was the same in all three?
And then what did not? Not.
not clip for clip. They just went over. IT was like, you could probably play them side by side. And that would almost beat for beat be the same section.
Okay, that's quite cane and up. And to actually, you know i'm becoming more can because i'd lost IT for sum reason, I suddenly didn't have the inbox summary in males no, as I miss that and then I have an iphone sixteen pro max and i'm i'm struggling to get used to the shuttle, the camera control. But like you forgetting that is, said cept, I had take photograph of something, a measured of something. And instead of doing that, IT told me what the thing was at a triggers intel. I've been doing that a ridiculous amount of times for and i'm getting to.
like, have time for apple's intelligent stuff later. But first, William, are you upset at the USB c port location on the magic mouse?
No.
it's the most dreadful thing in the world. Everyone like, I love that honestly. So this is just this is a positive thing, I think because out of a week of announcements of all these beloved products, the only thing people are complaining about is the location of a power button and the location of A U.
S. B port. Yes, I I have meet for nine years and I didn't I wouldn't be able to tell you two days, none the years ago and I looked into IT nine years that the magic math too, I think, is a property of IT has had A A charging port on the bottom. And that means for nine years, people are complaining. And for nine years I have not been able to give up, was a word I can say. So I have not been able to give a care about this because I have this thing that if your work is so time critical that you cannot take two to three minutes to charge, you can't take a coffee break and let IT charge up enough, take the rest of the day, then you should be more conscious of the fact that you've been ignoring all the low battery warnings for weeks. And somebody actually commented that on their mess, they don't get the warnings ahead I do on my magic trap pod.
But even if it's dead, even if it's really gone, you plug IT in for let like plug IT in. Go get a snack, use the bathroom, come back. You have enough there to get through two weeks just honestly because it's such a small battery and I can charge at a good enough speed that IT gets plenty there.
And then you know, get through the rest your shift and remember, okay, plug IT in. And then when you come back the next day at all, we fall. You want to do IT for a months.
It's just such a non issue. So funny to me. Yeah, I I love you. I love IT like it's it's just socially. But anyway, I U S B C in these products.
Gray, i'm not going to rush up and buy the next moment at apple storm. I see one. I might pick one up just to have IT, but cool.
But finally, I want to get to the main event tuesday. We got the new mac many, which is not really a miniature mac mini. It's a max studio mate, smaller if that is .
what so somebody was saying they thought I was IT looked just like some of uh, USB herb or something. I think no, it's a trunk down max studio. And as part of life I was fanning the next studio.
So highly tempted by this. But interesting that you call IT the main event when apple built up to the macbook pro. And I imagine a mro pro sells the most of anything.
sure. So in apple's mind, that should be the big. But I agree with you and that many because IT thought that had the most visible changes is not really upset ted. I'm just it's not I mean.
the visual design, of course, is A A good change. I'm not going to come on here last week, say I pad many. Not having a change isn't important and then say how important IT is in the back many um because that would be very silly.
No, I I think the the visual change and these size change is all important for this products. Um the moved apple silicon there was we were not utilizing that cases on properly at all like IT was a quarter filled in just a otherwise IT very, very poor design for many years from apple to continue doing that. So i'm glad to see that they're optimizing for this.
I think this is the most important of the three because it's. Such a good mac that a the mac money was kind of um what you would say linguists ing a little bit. We have had the same design for so long, the same same sort of its kind of in the product line will upgraded every few years.
And I just didn't really ever get that apple silan make over that. Every other mac got so other than the mac, right? So the question was, what does apple see in the mag many? Is that just going to slowly linguistic until it's gone? And I think this was a just a reaffirmation.
No, this is a product that we love and want to continue to support. And it's their first carbon neutral mac um which is very important for their twenty thirty goals. IT has three thunder able ports that can be four or five based on the infor and four pro HDMI I ether net and an audio check.
So honestly, the perfect amount of ports, you can always plug in a hub if you need more. And this guy is just so small, you can set up on the foot of your studio display and just have a, you know, it's it's, it's that size. It's perfect. It's five by five inches and two inches tall. I really like this thing. I think i'm going to try to sell my macbook pro and one pro for a reasonable man of money and buy one of these and some kind of, uh, I ve been made a decision on whether I want and for and for pro yet, but I do want to get one of these.
I can't remember the years ago, but there was a long patch when I looked like the that when I was that. Remember reading up insider actually articles pointing out that intel, kind of that many knockoffs, were now dramatically more powerful and and then suddenly apple came out with new one. And then again, just this doesn't feel a little bit like we're another interregnum.
But remember, the mac mini was the very first apple silicon thing. The develop IT was in that mini. Then the first one came out. I agree you about the waste space, but it's never bother because it's just it's IT was already small.
So in fact, when john tennis pulled the sheet away and we saw what from beat looked like the new magni, I thought still small. And then he took that away and reveal the news, small or one underneath that. So I was more pleased.
I still think small machine nice, but you're write about IT not getting the lock because everything else initially kept the same designers into almost like they wanted to show IT was still a mait was still this and then got A A nice redesign, especially the macbook are or or the imac things things. And we didn't have that until now. So yeah, that completes the set.
And of all of them, this is someone I really fancy. This episode is brought you by oracle. A, I might be the most important new computer technology ever.
It's storming every industry and literally billions of dollars are being invested. So buckle up. The problem is that A I needs a lot of speed and processing power, so how do you compete without cost spiring out of control?

inside the podcast somewhere in your bake, maybe sattled. I I don't know that someone's gone to make a battery base for this, no doubt in my mind, and turn them into this little portable guy that you can just slip down on a table put on apple vision pro and just half of a you know forty foot wide mac display in your cafe while you work on apple vision pro. I understand that maybe a macbook would be more efficient at that.
But honestly, I for me as a vision for user and how I use my products and I default to ipad pro for a lot of my work. I'm just not using my macbook pro as a macbook. I'm not using to display at all.
It's a beautiful, amazing display. I'm just not getting anything out of IT. So for me, having a portable mac that does not have a monitor is desirable.
It's very useful to mean IT. Even if I wasn't using IT with vision pro, I can still use with my ipad if I want to. If I really needed macos for some reason, it's just a really cool idea.
I know apple ditton lean into the portability of IT, but this thing can slip into your backpack with too much trouble. And there are battery packs out there that are reasonable size that have ac outlets in them. And you can buy because apple uses the figure eight ancient basic ac plug.
It's not anything fancy. You can buy a ac to wall outlet that's like a quarter of an inch long plugged in in one of these batteries. And just there you go like you don't need to a spoke based for I D D.
Like to see one, but there's way to do this now that you can come out of the box next week when they ship and just have a portable mac. Many are ready to go for your vision process set up or what have you. And I think that this really .
exciting a very important point to make at this stage is that everyone needs macos. okay. Let's just be clear about that.
And the current mac mini. I yes, I have actually taken my current mac many away from my office. I played IT once into a hotel TV that that was great for I embarrassing reasons.
I had to take IT somewhere because of two factor auth education, only working on this one machine and who know why? And there IT was a bit club trying to run an ipad for IT. But IT all worked. So this being smaller, the battle would never cut me, but its excEllent. Except wouldn't you, as a vision pro user, want vision pro to be Better rather to have IT still relying on having a good mac with well, again.
it's just mostly for these types of use cases. I mean, I want more stuff in apple vision pro, but having access to the this we talked about this a while back, but there's this idea that I had that you know apple vision pro shipping with the m two processor. correct? Ah that's all fine and good.
It's gonna a good processor for years to come. But by the time we get vision proto in twenty twenty seven, the m too is gonna lagging behind. But if there's complex tasks, rendering tasks, what have you? You can always just grab a mac that that can do IT with the most modern chip.
Now I have access to an in four or in four processes or in my vision pro to get that kind of work done. It's it's, it's where to explain this way. But vision pro is two devices in one.
It's a computer on its own, like an ipad, where IT has its own brains that, you know, you can run your photo applications, you can do everything you're going to do that you would do on an ipad instead of this virtual environment. Have all these flooding windows in its own visions. O, S, U, I, all of that stuff, space, al computing, all of that.
Yes, but there's also a display component to IT where apple vision pro can just be your max display and is the biggest, most high resolution display you can own. And you just wear IT on your face instead of having to have a cinema, a display attached to the side of your house. So it's IT has its own utility in its own way.
It's it's so when it's being uses a vision pro and vision OS, it's performing one task. But I can also easily switch paradigms and become that monitor or do both at once. Right now in this podcast, I have apple notes, savi and macos open in windows flow in front of me, right? I can't easily achieve the same without multiple displays or a weird dest configuration.
And then again, we run back into well, now i'm just talking into glass displays and having my voice reverberate off of the glass. So it's just it's a unique use case. I think apple vision pro hold a zone.
I don't really wanna have to use macro. I I love to record podcast from my ipad or heck even. Vision pro, I don't think it'll ever happen. I can attach a microphone to IT, but I think that IT has its specific use cases that are unique to its platform. So having a portable mac, many also would be excEllent because of my use cases of my office. I record from this side of my desk in my office ah for my main desk for the apple inside podcast because it's where my mag friend set up is it's my whole desk set up with vision pro on and all of that. But when I do the homework IT insider podcast, I moved to the photography table across the room so that my backdrop is my office, is my working desk and ipad, all of that because.
So, no, no, hungry, you're telling you, put more effort into your kit inside. I come my hair at this one. You kick right?
Well, I want video, you know? So the backdrop for that from this side of the room is kind of dull and empty and wooden walls and weird door, and it's just ugly on the side of the room. So I move over there so you have a Better backdrop for the homework at insider podcast.
And I can do that with a macbook pretty easily. A mac, many would have to power down completely, be moved, power back up and looked into its own thing. So again, having that attached to a portable battery would eliminate the need to do all the boot cycles in the stuff.
I could just pop IT off of its charging power on the desk, plug in into a charging power over there. Bam, I am now set up for month pocket, right? There's many, many use cases for this kind of set up, and i'm excited to test this out.
But at the moment, does not until there are such convenient bad reason things, does this not seem Better to stick with your macbook pro?
And again, I can achieve similar without basis both parts now, but i'm also kind of rethinking my office set up a little bit around my recent purchases. I'm trying to rely less like the new ipad. Many, for example.
Previously, dive had many six. I kind of IT was aging and I knew the new one would come out any any time. And that was about a year and a half ago when I said that so funny but I I was like, well, I really need a way to show that i'm in slack because we don't really use that.
It's not like we get punished and anything if our dog goes off. It's just useful to show that you're online and you can do that from an ipad because the minute you leave slack to any other window, even in stage manager, your dot turns off. And that's not necessarily true of max because if you're running slack, it's running and you can leave IT in the background and it's still running in your Green .
door stays on well, when I leave the office to go read a book or something, slack is telling everybody now he's still there. He's still working is good, right? We're revealing a lot of about ourselves here.
but you have to intentionally close slack or turn off your daughter.
You're running IT in the dessert application and throw back to the home assistance, working from home and finding out all he had to do was type yes, IT was keyboard every few minutes. And then later on all I was expressed the Y. K. So he was three times as productive. And by the ending that he had one of those dipping toy things that we just press why every now, again, randomly for.
yeah, needed, I needed a way to keep my slight dot on. So for the last year, some people might be hurt by this. I have just had my ipad, many six, on its little magnetic stand on my desk with slack open.
I turned my brightness all the way down. I didn't want to burn anything in. Never had any issues.
The only thing that I might have done was degrade my battery slightly faster. But overall, I would just use the ipad mini to be my slight machine. And i've decided I don't want to do that with the ipad many seven, just for multiple reasons.
So i've delegated that test to my mac on my bookshelf. So I now come in, I shake the magic mouse. I feel a tap of my risk showing that the mac has woken up on the bookshelf and slack is now running, and I don't have to do anything. So the only thing burning now is a portable monitor that I don't care about.
So k, so now mac has a job.
Billiam you happy?
yeah. But a job where you don't go near IT the keyboard as we don't do that. It's like cruelty to mexican do so much and IT just IT says like a clock they are just wrong .
are you're gonna get the new mac money.
I seriously looked into IT I was costing at the amount, but i'm right now not sure I know I just want one which is just a bad thing, but a man actually, that we will talk about IT and other plus today, but are running through how much I use my office mac mini and my macbook pro, trying to work out what I can justify for IT. I surprised I have no interest in I I love what I got but with a mac mini yeah i'm sand season greeks so i'm highly, highly tempted. But right this minute I haven't pushed the button close to IT.
But one last little update, apple pushed all the baseline RAM situations of every macbook to sixteen gigs yeah so the macbook air that is so for sale is now baseline sixteen gigs. Node Price change. H, so you ve got a little bit of a discount more or less. So that's cool. And I suppose we will be seeing the inform macbook air sometime in the spring, but otherwise yet that was the week of max.
I feel bad since talks about for quite a lot now, particularly the mac mini. And I really like the that meaning. And I think the imac is an absolutely superb computer. I think of all things, if you were buying a new computer, actually, if you had no mac before, I am actually really want to go for a IT still feels less exciting then apple made IT sound like he was going to be only one.
Computers are kind of dead volume. I mean, I like the imac. I would only one just because it's beautiful, and I would put in my living room somewhere and never use IT.
But the the I like is it's such a great concept of a machine IT felt very of its time. They these all in one style machines were their peak summer around twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, and they've slowly disappeared. Because when you tie everything to, uh, this kind of deaf top system, you eliminate choice and some people like that.
But I think fewer and fewer people like that. More people are buying mac books and attaching them to external monitors because previously, in order to get real power. And I think the reason why all in ones became so popular is because you needed a desktop.
But no one, really one of those towers, they are just ugly. So they went for the desktop IMAX. And they were powerfully, you get the I seven with the GPU and attach an external GPU do all the stuff with that makes the super powerful kind of sleep looking.
That's top mac. But once we shifted the apple silicon, all of those things changed. Now you can have as much power, if not more, now more actually, in a macbook pro, then in a IMAX.
So apple took the computer out of the imac and sold IT as the studio display and said, okay, if you really want an imac display, here you go who get up to your macbook pro, and that'll be the brains. And then you just swap out the macbook every couple of years. And now you have a portable mac that can also act as a test top that is more powerful than any other mac, the top other than the most high and high end ultra chips.
And you have a studio display that can be as good, if not Better than an imac display because it's five k, not four point five. Or if you want to take all the question, all them of that thought out of IT, you don't need a portable mac. There's still the imac, but that niche is getting smaller and smaller by the years.
But financially, you've got a very powerful computer and it's not like the screens completely free. But he feels like I I, I don't remember trying doing something where costing at different versions. And I looked at the Price of a monitor that was at least the equal of the imac one, and they were always so expensive for IT. Felt like, no, I make is a bargain.
And if you ever wanted to figure out why that I met costs, I believe, twelve, ninety nine at the start. Look at the mac mini. The mac mini is just the imac without a display.
So the mac many starts at five ninety nine and the IMAX starts at twelve ninety nine. That is a seven hundred dollar difference, and you're pretty much paying for the display. And that .
difference also, I let me just have speakers. I'd forgotten my bed is never microphone. Just another camera there? Yes, there. So, but the camera .
cost four dollars. That's not the display is the most expensive part of the imc. absolutely.
It's a very nice display though I have an extremely wide monto forty nine nine wide monitor and I love that wit, but the pitch quality on IT Better than the money i've ever had before. So that's good. But when I go to an apple store, I can't look at an imac. I can't get any more that because that so much nice.
i'm excited for you to get the apple vision process, you can recreate your ultrawise monitor and fork on that the swing.
I didn't want to put out .
an honorable mention. So john prosser did make a prey note event video, which was entertaining on its zone note on no hate on proser. He did his thing.
He had his time in the spotlight. He withdraw quietly, but very swiftly away from rumors after a few bad gus. And I think he should keep IT that way.
If he once report up these, there's, you know always run for more, but he decided to have some fun. He's been doing these video productions and his video production quality has been good. So again, no knocks against that.
But I didn't want to point out that his prediction video was just hilariously off on the design of the mac many. So again, he is not in the room. Again, he just made a mac many based off of some ancient rumors that he used to pedal with, like this barrel powerpoint. And no, there was no easter net port on that. I just wanted to point out just how very, very wrong that was, but still IT entertaining if you enjoy his kind .
of concept video. No qualified. I actually had piece up inside the understanding IT up so you could just see IT. And I described the IT was one ke. Done over over and somebody actually I wasn't somebody I said I was there is so I overanalyzed john process jokes, not thinking I didn't over realize that I was just .
kind yeah now I mean, it's it's fine, like walking out with the tim cookout fit in a week. It's it's its own form of internet video. He he is part of what he calls the toilet squads.
So if that tells you anything about his humor, there you go. I'm just i'm not a fan. I I don't really watch youtube, so like this is just incredibly not my warehouse, but this type of internet is just not my internet. I think .
it's very successful, very popular. I just he would he would do actually a for a really spot on tim impression and then say something that cook wouldn't, which is obviously part of the analysis ing again and but IT would be the ef is the best chippy observer chippy and okay, just I don't know, just doesn't work for me. But I ve seen us for other people so what do .
time to get into all of the as they launch and ship? Uh, next week? I don't know that i'm going to have mac money on released the day, but i'm i'm gonna buy one soon I have my macbook proof for sale.
Want to see how that does and then make decisions from there. But I do intend on switching, just not because anyone proves starting to slow. Honestly, I could probably use this macbook pro for another five years.
Not even notice difference because i'm just using IT to record podcasts and kind of get makos screen shots. So as long as it's supported in macos, as I would continue using, but i'm just mostly interested in the opportunity offered by a smaller mac, many in what that might provide. And maybe i'll download a game cube and you later, something that .
will be fun. But sorry, I read here you are selling your macbook pro before you brought the next minute. Is there going to be a patch where you don't have a mac at all?
No, no, no. That .
rule the mag many .
launches, I want to say november fifth election day for some reasons.
So available from the eight. The .
next friday, they're launching the mac. Many, I, if I ve sold IT by then, fine, but I, I will, I will be able to courter py castle. Don't work.
No, I was actually thinking of you being bereft of a mac for an hour even would have been Better. But also, you've gotta move. Well, I would say going to meet yourself of the netbook problem to the right mini. But IT doesn't done like you got on the look.
I literally would just set IT up as new and turn on apples, I cloud, and then then I would be done. yeah. no.
So moving on. We have a few updates to discuss. Apple released apple intelligence via IOS eighteen, that one in the rest last one day.
Yeah.
excited. happy.
Surprisingly more interested than I thought I would be. I that's how to well, I can account for IT because I switch in a couple of max ones on the beater ones not I had some times I don't know what I did wrong, but at some point I suddenly didn't have the inbox summaries in mail. And I realized I missed IT.
I thought, actually this is something I like and then they were just odds and ends like i've been having trouble with the camera control button on the iphone. I've taken the camera button off the front screens so I have to press a button for IT. But I I think that keeps not finding IT.
And then I had second meter reading outside the house. Take a photograph of IT. And instead of taking the photograph, I had did something that meant IT.
IT came up with a screen telling me what I need to was for IT. I triggered visual intelligence. And what night wo, oh, well, you know, what am I like? Advanced kind of thing, but i'm really, really individual intelligence now.
And that make give me think fondly of all apple intel. Gent, except I had thought I had no interest in the image playground. Now you feel like that kind of thing, but I did.
But I got, I got access to IT last night as we record this. And so far, IT has made an absolutely orgel image of Angela, my wife, and then absolutely horrendous series of images of me. I asked you to show me a cup of day and you wouldn't drink what IT showed you. So you and mixed, well.
we'll get into eighteen or two first because you seem keen to talk about IT.
But I get honestly get very mixed up over what's wear and thinks. And I have different beat on different machines, and i'd like IT to all just beat. It's going it's .
going to be like this. Yes, it's going like this the next year. So the so eighteen thousand two beta arrived a couple of days before eighteen dot one.
We didn't really get a chance to talk about IT on the lasso because I was kind of rolling out not really available. I have access to image playground as well. IT is interesting.
So I i've talked a lot on the show about apple intelligence and how at first the initial launch was about taking content people had and manipulating IT um and last week I did get to play with eighteen or two in the show we had some poems generated from content that I had written but I was still the same IT was still the same ideology of here's content you had we're going to convert IT in some way using apple intelligence. Now gin mog and image playground are the first instance of apple using pure generative technology now. So creating something from nothing, you can, you can use a gino gy, by the way, uses nothing except for your input.
You don't get to add images or people to it's just I want a cat in a pumpkin and IT will make that whether it's horrific or nor IT will make that uh so a gino gy fine uh, honestly, I think that's a good use of general technology in the way of its harmless. You're not I I wasn't going to hire an artist to create a spokesman. G, for me to send in my group chat.
This is just something that is playful and fun. And an existing Operating system, and people understand what a mog R I can't illusionary or like create misinformation or kill anyone. Uh, we might be writing an article next week about how to mogi literally kill someone. But .
fine.
I think that is actually a very good use of apple intelligence as far as general technologies go. Then you get to image play. So I don't want to spend much time on that.
So we get to image. Playground IT has a text field. You can just type in text and say, I tried the same thing I did with a ChatGPT last week through.
I used theory through t ChatGPT to tell you to create image of a dinosaur working in an apple store. And I did IT then I was fine. I was a silly image.
Same thing in image playground. And I got a cartoony looking in Green dinosaur. You can imagine kind of what you would see. And I don't know teeth brush ada, where it's sprache ing to see there are something that comes to mind for some reason, american commercials.
So there is standing in what you would call an apple store, uh, only by parolin because it's a store that sells apples, uh, the fruit. So um IT has no so image playground has know what apple calls world intelligence. So IT doesn't even know about apple.
IT does not know about the company. IT doesn't know about iphone. IT can generate nothing related to quote in the world. So when you tell us something it's gona generate IT based on its basic understanding, like dictionary understanding of terms and words and ideas.
I think that's terribly because usually have a nice way of phrases is not like apples up itself. But if you are trying to write about actual apples, the things you ate also, correction, tries to capitalize IT thinking, you must be talking about that. What else could you talking about and to hear, have them not do IT I, I tried to search for apple park.
I had this idea that the chapter out for this week's forecast that every image would be done, the image playground and upper park. He did what you said that was not like a park and had an apple in IT. IT was no connection to this.
Plus, he really cannot draw a capacity at all. But I use sending actually more positive about IT than I am. And I think that's because it's done a nice image of you when I wouldn't do a nice image of me. So it's personal.
That's what is there are things like you can say smartphone and IT looks like an a iphone s eight and iphone fourteen. So may be apple league to their new iphone. Sc, i'm not sure the it's very early generation, so people want to they love saying apples behind which whatever we got into that last week, people kept saying this looks like the like early generation image generation tools released by open a eye, which I conquer to an extent.
But it's not that though IT is apple has a very intentional style that they are going for. And there's only two options available right now. There is illustration and there is animation.
I found that the animation one is pixar jacket. And on purpose, if you, if people have very short memory. So going back to the original image generation tools, IT was random.
You'd tell to make something, and you could try to give IT a style. But sometimes I just ignore you. That would be whatever style felt like apple can.
I just cannot do that. You cannot give you a different style IT will only do the styles that that has. The illustrations are very western. You can't tell you to make an enemy image, for example. Uh, you you're very, very slim down to a very specific set of things and you can't do anything too specific.
So image playground right now and its a infancy, is basically you can create these little shoulder of avatar ars of people and pets if you but the pets is even more broken. If you give IT a cat IT will not copy the pattern of the cat IT will just make a cat image or at the same thing with a dog or A A bird or anything like that. It's not it's not taking anything like that from the image because I don't take it's looking more structural than IT is pattern people people.
And I think a image playground has a people focus IT can make just generic backgrounds and images like you can say halloween hunted house and it'll just make a hunted looking house or whatever. But you're not you can't say make washington, D C. To make a generic looking political building.
So the tool itself, i've come to the conclusion is a good proof concept. It's not MIT for anything. I don't really understand what you're space using for no, apple's advertising as being useful for certain things, but I think IT is a proof of concept, the same way mo ji and anio g work.
Mao gani O G O T somewhere still uses them, i'm sure. But they were a amazing technical proof concept of apples three dot scanner for the face I D system. And when iphone ten came out, I was just an amazing way to promote those phones.
The commercials were great. People loved IT. IT created a lot of means, and og karaoke was actually kind of fun.
And then and I think I did a really good job of showing how advanced that technology that we saw in the microsoft connect so many years ago advanced into this little dot display on iphone and jan mogi, not je mogi, because that actually seems useful. People can actually going to use that in which playground, I think, is another proof concept. IT doesn't really serve a purpose.
People are jokingly making images now they're going to know their friends is mean like look what you look like with a apple tool, but they're not genuinely using this like i'm gonna make a birthday card with this is like that's not actually happening. I think apple knows that they just wanted to show that they could do IT and they they can they're actually doing a good job. Apple is taking my collection of images of myself and making a representation of me either in the pixar I format or an honestly, the illustration format is way Better after capturing, uh, intricate details of people. IT is almost cartoon fied in a way that a character here is, but IT does an excEllent job. It's even Better than the animation style, even though animation might be on a pretty to look at what what if you take expense so far with you.
I'm surprised that I keep using its keep things you want to do with this. I know it's new toy I just the mind very new twenty but I am interest said that about memory things I just thought i'm the only one I doesn't use IT I keep hearing about IT grape name, said that nobody sends me remerge things. I just thought I was lonely, but I couldn't get myself to look like myself with any that I gave up.
And IT occurred to me. Maybe this will finally do me. And as he turns out, no, perhaps i'm just unillustrated I SAT the rabbit and the illustrated man, the unillustrated able man you'll .
have to let me see one of your images but the i've thought about this a little bit, but i'll get that just a second. I think they're um speaking of a oj animo g and this technology I think I can meet in the middle at some point. Apple has the superpower here. Do you remember the clips .
that oh yes, yes.
I could imagine see. And again, if being stuck in the clipsed up is a problem, apple needs a revolution. In something social, I keep bringing this up because social is so important to the Younger generations.
It's hugely, hugely important that social is the thing that they interact with every day. Be a discord, snap chatter. Uh, what? The one where you take a photo every hour with at a random prompt uses the front back camera there. There are so many weird little social apps out there that, and I know we don't need an apple travesty that was the music, social being, whatever.
But I think there, if the only way any of these tools will ever take off as if there's a social component built into the Operating system like eyes message, because eyes message is still I know it's not huge on the world, but it's still such a big thing, especially in united states, because of its default nature and stuff like jim oji being in IT and stickers can take off. I O M O G I message games are huge because of how big I messages in united states. So apple allowing game pigeon to work that way um actually took off and IT was an excEllent use of the APP store and I message and then a kind of fizz out.
Apple keeps missing these finding opportunities and not fully embracing them. They really need a social components to this because if they do IT right, you could have people soon making tiktok videos with their apple intelligence generated avatar ars being overlaid on their bodies, right? Like having this pixar character a fully animated because of the three to display h three, I am sorry, the face ID components capable of capturing three d movements in a space.
The dot project there are capable of doing that so that they can scan what you're doing animation that on top of you using artificial intelligence to generate the image and the animas well mapping its your body and face. Like there are so many ways that this could work out the same thing with the um video calls, right? You could have the persona like thing, an apple vision pro, but everywhere and more idealized and more specifically tuned to what you want.
There's just ways that this can work if they start merging these technologies. And i'm i'm excited by the prospect of where I could go. But this is definitely approve concept. And I I I find that annoying when people look at this and skulls at IT as if it's this garbage. I don't think it's meant to be anything more than a huh meat an an apple knew that going in looking at this image now it's in the pocket artwork three drawstrings on the hood IT doesn't make sense but there you go.
I mean, not learning. sad. I rubbish. All right. Well, forget IT then that's coming off the chapter outward. okay. I I think it's incredible to anything like this can be done at all, well pressed and sometimes interested. I just add to know where .
I sit with IT. The interesting part is it's not just random images, what people are calling A I slop, where people are generating images to replace artists um or whatever, filling articles with generated images because you didn't want to pay for a copyright ted image what have you um and you can create copy your right content even if you try IT doesn't know what Mickey mouse is or anything like that where as copilot still generates a images of making mass smoking cigarettes if you want IT to um but what's interesting here is it's totally private.
It's on device or private class compute and but IT still has access to who you or your friends are. And that is the difference between the other AI systems because in order for the other systems like ChatGPT to generate images of view, or your family or your pets, you have to give IT all of your data, all of your photos, all of your information, and have IT assimilate that into its algorithm so you can spit a garbage jima's out back at you. Apple doesn't do that, and that is the separator here.
And that's why something like this as good as IT is today. I know it's bad. Let me regret. It's not it's not good in that way, like this is not a great image.
It's not usable in any way, but the fact that I could be made using my my information, knowing that apple will not use any information to train its data sets or doing something weird with that or advertised to me with that, that is the importance here. And I think it's only going to get Better. This is day zero, not even where beta gene logic or image playground.
Where's IT going to be in a year? Where's IT going to be in five years? And how is this application going to evolve and be involved in more spaces in the Operating system? Will you be able to image playground into face time, for example, in the future? I think it's cool that apples doing this.
I understand that it's not the best images in the world. Obviously, they're kind, ugly and weird. And finally, on that note, I will say I think I know why you don't like your image as well.
Okay, uh, please be gentle. Why .
psychology? So if you have you ever gone and had a character to drawn of yourself, like at a event of carnival.
yes, actually once and I liked the result.
their job is to find parts of you that they can emphasize in order to make IT a clear image of you big nose, or your ears, your eyes, your mouth. They emphasize different aspects of your to capture unit specific way. I think image playground is playing to that effect, because IT is this kind of amorphous blob of cartoon art.
But then, oh, that is actually how my ears look, or that is how my hair looks, or my eyes do that, or my teeth look that way or or whatever, right? Like it's capturing very specific details and specific ways, but a lot of us don't like the way we look or we have a psychological rejection of images that reflects us because IT reflects the flaws that we do not like about ourselves. That's why you can look at Angela or other people and say, wow, IT captured almost perfectly and look at yourself. But I don't I don't like that because it's capturing parts of you that you don't necessarily like.
Actually, Angela agreed with that. He saw not as much as I did. So I agree with that that but there's a that there's a few people .
I look at and i'm like that you didn't get close, but I do think that we have a psychological disposition to reject images of ourselves.
But I think also cartoonists, in event human cartoons, want to make you happy, so they make you look as good as they can. And in my case, they tend to pick the back of my head to draw. So playground that leases and trying to do that, give IT that. 对, it's still time for you to say the front of my head is fine. But you know, OK moment gone there.
of course. Now just wrap up eighteen that wounded launch to the world, riding tools, the summaries across the system and clean up and memory movies are available to the public. And uh, closing note, did you watch the new ads for apple intelligence?
Yes, I do. I think i've seen one where a woman asks who was that personally met with at some place? I think that was highly useful.
That was a while back and that was for a feature that um doesn't exist yet. That's not until eighty four. So apple released a couple of new ads very short in the same space.
So the image ious song that they played, the intervened, uh, continues. So this is part of the same ad campaign. And the first one showcases a family, some kids sitting on the catch with their father saying happy birthday, and a woman sitting in the background.
And IT seems down on her, and he makes this shocked look on her face like sh'd forgotten his birthday. So SHE picks up her phone, goes to photos and says, make a memory of the kids doing woodcrafters with their father or whatever. And while it's generating the video, SHE walked across the room, and by the time SHE hands IT to the husband, the video is done in playing, and SHE walks away with the image, genius song playing the background and men. Is that a dark? No, just the I don't think I don't necessarily think that's a bad ad, but man, of all the ways you could showcase that particular technology, it's just very dear, like your life, this poor, ragged woman who has been just destroyed by her children's like just existence, existence.
Yeah, yeah.
SHE just so lost in her data day routine that SHE didn't forget, remember her husband's birthday and yet to rely on artificial intelligence to generate this video, this free, thoughtless video. But SHE did nothing to earn her game ah, just pretend like you remembered her husband's birthday. Just good lord, what is going on with apple advertising lately?
The husband's gotto be an android user because if he knows how to do this as well, that's thanks really. But okay, could be overanalyzing. Now I am stepping into that territory again. At least he bought the phone so you know puts the money into that for I think that .
it's actually ten cooks birthday present, that he bought the iphone for herself and rewarding the family the presence of apple intelligence.
Y, you say, thinking of others all the time, that's what we want for my characters in adverts.
And that ad was so striking that I forgotten what the other ad was. So what i'm looking at, A I wanted to ask what what do you think of the no sweat and accompanying the the macbook announcement? It's for the m four chip, specifically a man lifting weights and then something happens. Okay, I say I can .
be very conscious about this because I completely missed that altogether. No idea that well, that really struck on the concerns. Are you saying I should rush off, buy IT or not buy IT to watch IT?
You see fifteen slip.
You're going to buy that yeah looking .
the in for chip ad features at first. So it's it's a kind of a weight lifting competition. Man walks up, grabs the weights, kind of does the you know it's a very heavy weight set. So he kind of like putting a lot of effort til lifting IT. The the coaches like oh good form, good form and gets IT to above his has like oh yes, yes and then he began to do um what I would call are you where in genetic CS of like the ribbon dancing?
No yes, yes.
He begins to do a routine similar to that, but using the very heavy weight set wearing when he's wearing a leader that says in four on IT. So just signifying how simple, how powerful IT is that I can just kind of perioeci with this weight set, toss IT in the air, catch IT. And then the the end is he uses the the pinky swear where he lives the home.
It's just as pinky and because it's no sweat for the m four go watch is sad. Um it's it's a whole thing. no.
Selling IT to me. But okay, no.
it's I was Better than the apple intelligence.
I learned to type on manual type riter so my little pinky can lift. good. As I can tell you, i'm going it's going to have to work hard to impress me that. But I will, yes.
I will for ever. Think of everything, everywhere, all at once, where they flex the pinky and has a muscle in that scene. Just amazing.
So I found the other A I. And can we can end here? Yeah, it's right. smarter. I forgot about IT, but IT is also in the same vain um so there's this guy at work sitting at his desk and he's playing with paper clips, making whistling sounds, spinning around in his chair and then suddenly an idea strikes him he gets on the computer, writes an email to his boss that kind of like I don't know what to do here with this project and then but like he's like make IT more professional and and IT switches to the boss reading IT and he's just like emotionally charged like coal like this guys really passionate about his job is really excited about this project and he's like then he looks at the window of the guy, kind of like spinning in his chair and he just like, really this guys in this email and a did the genius song is like A A genius senses like I don't really know what message you're trying to send here like, okay, even you bumps can impress your bosses with apple intelligence.
I think that may be very happy was that I never ever going to use. They make IT more professional, more professional, more concise and more friendly. Those were the options.
But as as you point to this out to me and I hadn't looked before, now if you're going writing tools, you have the option to say what you wanted to be. So I have, I immediately tried, make IT threatening. And I just so excited to would be like, but IT completely misunderstood. T I mean.
questions. yeah. But a threatening .
email is supposed to be threatening to the person you are sending IT to, allegedly, apparently not to you. And the description sounded like I was threatened by whatever IT was. How can you be exactly the opposite way around? So yeah.
I wonder what's going on with the ad department. I mean, the ad sell, what they're doing is just, I don't know, they feel kind of dark. Like you're saying, humanity is this tragic thing where we forget birthdays and were bad at our jobs. And IT reminds me of that, reminds me of the let google do IT like, what is IT? Yeah, let google do IT like.
Basically.
the whole ad campaign for google was used. Simple, terrible humans who are batted everything you do. Don't worry about that. I need more. Just go on and breathe through your mouth in a corner.
I'm gonna this worry like that's how those ads red and i'm worried apple intelligence ads are kind of the first couple. I think we're fine. Uh, examples like who's this person at this party that I forgotten, okay, see that was a good, good use of IT for a technology that's not available yet. But cool like the first couple were good, but IT feels like they're getting darker. And so we go along and it's just like, can we we steal the ship back a little bit here?
I for one, welcome our apple intelligence of loads, of course. yes.
Well, that's our show this week. I hope everyone enjoyed. Of course, I haven't found any new reviews on the apple podcast APP.
I think everyone who's ever left review has left one and will ever leave one, so will leave IT at that. But of course, you can always go leave a review. Let us know what you think of the show, love IT or hate IT.
You know, I was like, like the reviews. They tell us what we need to know if we need to improve anything or you can always give us topic ideas or just shut up. So the show is say, hi uh, of course you can reach me via email or via massed on. I'm very active over there these days and William working people found .
you probably nails is the best way. I I do have a youtube thing and actually, as you recall this, I have just crossed over ten thousand ds writing big books. Thank you.
I mean, as you tube go, I mean join process thing is like thousand million times and more. I know it's a small number, but big thing for me. So I was spending long time over there enjoying that fifty eight keys on youtube is me. But direct access strained to myan box William made up inside a dot com is probably the best way. And I so enjoy getting a house up.
