In the last premium audio lesson), the doctor explained the progressive nature of COPD and the need for regular pulmonary function testing. In this lesson, you will hear the doctor explain alveoli and blood gases. After the dialogue, we'll review the description of alveoli and name the main blood gases in Spanish.

P: ¿Qué son los alveolos? Se me olvidó.
D: Buena pregunta. En este dibujo, se ven los alveolos aquí. Los alveolos son las bolsitas de aire al final de las vías respiratorias donde la sangre recibe oxígeno y se deshace del dióxido de carbono. También vamos a sacarle sangre de una arteria en la muñeca para medir los niveles de estos gases en su sangre.
P: Ay sí. Recuerdo esta prueba. Duele.
D: Sí duele más que sacar sangre por la vena, pero nos da información esencial y lo haremos solamente cuando sea necesario.
P: Menos mal.
