Backlash | NOUN
A strong negative reaction to another action
If you do something bad, like really bad, you might face backlash. In my last podcast, number 40, I spoke about a couple who flew to Northern Canada to get the COVID-19 vaccine when they should not have. As a result of this, they got their names and faces in newspapers all over the world! A lot of people were furious with them, a lot of people were angry with them, a lot of people were saying they should be jailed or they should pay an even bigger fine. This reaction is called ‘backlash’.
If a person does something bad, and there is a strong negative reaction to what they did, we call that backlash.
Can you think of a person in your country who got a lot backlash over something they did or said?
Can you think of a politician that received backlash for something they did or said?
What about a big corporation?
Anyways, this was a very quick podcast dedicated to one word, it’s a little different to how I normally do them, but trying out new things.
Have a great day,
Ronan
