开学选课，选课外活动，新老师如何？跟好朋友一个班吗？小目标定下了？开学的鸡血已经打好，就是。。。起不来床？ 听纽约长岛七年级学生Lindsay描述开学种种。
欢迎来到美国中学年纪录，Chronicles of My School. Chronicle 就是编年史大事记的意思。那过去一周学校的大事自然是开学了。今天，我们请Lindsay讲开学第一周的心情。What's new of this week Lindsay？ Well, there is a lot to share! Before school even started, my school sent home a letter to inform us our assigned homeroom. My best friends aren’t in the same homeroom with me. They haven’t been with me in homeroom even in sixth grade. I do share a lot of classes with them that aren’t core subjects. Core subjects are social studies, math, english and science. Homeroom 就是每天早上孩子们去报到的教室，老师会处理诸如迟到病事假以及传达学校的通知什么的，也就十几分钟吧，然后孩子们就要去各自的科目教室。因为每个人选择的选修不一样，比如音乐可以选弦乐器合唱管乐，外语可以是法文西班牙文意大利文，所以每个人的时间表会不一样。但如果分在一个主教室的，往往会有较多机会在英文数学这样的主科目上在一起。所以Lindsay不开心没能和好朋友们在一个homeroom. How about teachers? Do you have new teachers? Are they nice? All of my teachers are new. New teachers are sometimes a struggle to have. But all of my teachers are really nice and funny. My English teacher is apparently the “cool” teacher of the school, except he has such a loud voice that sometimes it feels like my ears are being assaulted. 第一周基本就是老师学生之间的磨合，你看Lindsay还偷偷嫌老师嗓门大，学生们也是要议论老师的。What is your plan and expectation of this year? My plan for school is to get better at math. I really don’t want to fail any of my tests like last year. Then you will have to work hard! Well, adjusting to school hours is hard already! I miss summer a lot! I could sleep in until 11 am. Now, I have to wake up really early. It’s hard to leave the warmth of my bed and go to the tortures of school, but I try. I really, really try. I want to be a good student, and that means actually going to school. Q：Keep up the good job! Lindsay, Have you signed up for other activities? I’m doing theater and sports! The play my school doing is The Little Mermaid. I don’t understand how we can play Ariel! Are we going to wear fins and flop around on stage? And sports, I’m doing cross-country. I don’t know why I decided to run outside in 90 degree weather for hours, but if that’s what it takes to get in shape then I guess that’s what I’ll do. Q：LiIndsay决定参演学校的舞台剧小美人鱼。还决定参加越野跑训练保持身材, 尽管会很辛苦。Get in Shape并不仅仅是说要减肥，而是说有强壮健美的形象。Can you sign up for any program you like? Theoretically yes, but you don’t have that much time to go through all options. To join sport, you’ll l have to get cleared by the school nurse. Q：Get cleared是一套说明你身体没有隐患的程序。家庭医生发一张身体检查书，学校护士检查过同意，家长授权，就可以了。
