陨石在科学课上出现激发出文学想象。科学即艺术。另外，What is your new year resolution? Hello Ximalaya, this is Lindsay from New York. Well, our program is back on schedule to share what happened last week. It was a only 3 day school week since Monday and Tuesday were part of the winter holiday. Hello my ximalaya friends. In the first week of 2019, have you all done well executing the new year resolution? New year resolution在每年开始都会被人热议，诸如减肥了读书了都是新年新的解决之道里的常见项目，whatever it is，my friends, keep on doing the right things. As for us, we will keep on our programs here. Lindsay, what happened during the first week? Not much. It was hard getting up from bed to catch the school bus after sleeping in for so many days during the break. But other than that, school was pretty good. I was really happy to see my friends again and share what happened during our winter break with each other. How was school? In my English class we started a project called “Literature Circles.” In the beginning we had to pick our top three science fiction novel choices from a science fiction booklist that the teachers gave my class. We were not allowed to pick a book we had already read, so I could only pick two books. I did get my top choice though, so that was good. 英文课上的组建文学圈，阅读主题是Science Fiction，科幻。老师给出书单选项，自己选择自己喜欢的但从未读过的书 In our own little groups with the other people who chose the same novel, we had to discuss the book together as we progressed our way through the chapters. We were only supposed to read Chapter One on Thursday and Chapter Two on Friday but I read up to about ¾ of the book. It is a very good book called “Ender’s Game” and I look forward to finishing it. 英文课上每天读一个章节，然后小组讨论内容。Lindsay选的书她很喜欢，中文翻作安德的游戏，这是一步战争科幻片。有相应的电影，我看豆瓣上评价很好。美国学校里相对比较多的读科幻，也讨论这背后的伦理，呼应越来越AI化高科技化的人类社会。 In Science class we started a new unit about Astrology, which is really interesting to learn about. My teacher passed around two real meteorites in class. I only got to hold one, but it was very heavy and beautiful. I thought it was somehow something incredibly special because it came from space, and it felt so strange to hold a piece of space in my hands and know it was once rocketing around the galaxy, going to places I may never see in real life. 科学课上开始的新章节是天文。美国学校在小学初中的课程设置上倾向于涉列范围广，但相对浅尝辄止。目的就是为了给小孩子开启兴趣的大门，所谓师傅引进门，如果某门课某领域对上了孩子的兴趣，孩子自己就可能进入主动学习进入修行靠个人阶段。到了高中阶段，科目更是列得既细又划分开难度，这样，孩子必须凭借之前中小学阶段积攒下的热爱和兴趣来安排高中课业，因为都拿下，那肯定是不可能的。七年级科学课上介绍天文Astrology，老师拿来陨石Meteorites，看来是深深刺激了LIndsay。我们来听她的感想。 Holding that meteoroid was like holding a doorway to the solar system, yet not being able to enter and only being able to admire from afar. It gave me a strange sensation to hold the meteoroid,and it was almost hard to believe that a nobody like me could ever even touch something made out of space rock. Oh，LIndsay, you are not nobody. You are a very special girl. 大家听听Lindsay的描述，拿着这块陨石，仿佛倚着去太阳系的门，但是你只能远远观望而不能走近，仿佛触摸着流星雨。一堂科学课耶，生生搞成了文学写作的课。谁说科学不是诗意的！ On a more ordinary note, I had a French test on Friday about dates and holidays. I think I did pretty well on that test. I also have All County in a couple of weeks. It’s a musical program that accepts only the best of the best in our county. I’ll talk more about it next week and I will explain everything about All County and NYSSMA. 其它事情还有法语考试，一场即将在下周上演的演出。刚刚开年，很忙啊。what is your new year resolution LIndsay? My New Year Resolutions? Well, I have several of those. I am going to try to keep my room neater, to limit my screen time and to stop procrastinating. That’s all good.
