Trump targets social media companies with executive order after Twitter fact-checks his tweets

CNBC

President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order cracking down on “censorship” by social media sites, a move widely seen by critics as retaliation against Twitter’s decision to slap fact-checking labels on the president’s tweets.

President Trump is expected to order a review of the federal law that protects social media companies from content posted by their users days after Twitter labeled two of his tweets "potentially misleading."

Trump is scheduled to sign the executive order on Thursday.

A draft of the executive order seeks to limit the legal protections shielding internet companies and websites such as Twitter and Facebook from lawsuits, making it easier for federal agencies to hold the companies liable.

George Floyd protest turns deadly; Minneapolis mayor requests National Guard

NBC

The mayor of Minneapolis asked the Minnesota National Guard to move in after protests in the city over the death of George Floyd in the custody of police escalated Wednesday night with a fatal shooting near the site of the demonstrations, widespread looting, fires and the deployment of tear gas.

"I cannot risk the safety of innocent people and so that is what I've been sworn to uphold and that is what I am dedicated to do," Mayor Jacob Frey told NBC affiliate KARE. "We can have both things. We can have peaceful demonstrations, but I also have to ensure the safety of everyone in the city." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support) Learn more about your ad choices.
