  • Kamrup (M) District Administration has shut vegetable selling zones and retail outlets as people engaged in unruly behaviour. People did not practice social distancing and there was complete chaos which is why the administration had to take such a decision.Assam police has said, “We’re saddened to see that even after repeated appeals from the highest in the land, citizens refuse to follow #SocialDistanacing. They’re endangering everyone, including their own parents & children. Given the gravity of situation, all weekly & daily open markets of vegetables, fish & meat are being closed. These visuals show a dangerous reality. Please follow #Lockdown21 guidelines.”

  • After this incident, the government has announced that throughout Assam only grocery shops and pharmacy shops will be open during lockdown. Rest everything will be shut. Meat and fish shops will be shut. After reviewing the situation on April 1, it will be decided if meat and fish shops can be open. As far as timing is concerned, local Deputy commissioners will take that decision depending on the requirements of their wards and regions. Also arrangements have been put in place where vegetables and other requirements can be delivered to people at their doorstep.

  • Assam government is planning to deduct 10-20 % monthly salary of state govt. employees due to coronavirus pandemic that has hit the world. However the deducted amount will be refunded during the next fiscal year with an interest rate of 4.5 %, informed Assam Finance Minister  Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma has earlier said that Assam is fast entering a tough economic phase owing to coronavirus, and the Government might be compelled to take several hard decisions.

  • Health Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam government has signed a Memorandum of Understand (MoU) with 34 private hospitals in the state to combat the coronavirus pandemic. This agreement is on for two months now, he said during a press conference. Some of the hospitals with which this agreement has been signed re Marwari hospital, Nemcare hospital, Agile hospital, Excel care and many others.

  • Assam’s Hima Das has donated one month’s salary to COVID-19 relief fund in Assam. Generous donations from members of parliament, government agencies and others to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus have started pouring in.

  • A 33-year-old woman from Mizoram was arrested for lying about her travel history. The woman had returned from Macau and landed in Aizawl’s Lengpui Airport on March 10. But she told the authorities at the airport that she had come from Kolkata. It was through her FB post that she revealed the actual truth. Police have now arrested her.

  • Amid lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic, a Russian girl was spotted in Guwahati. The girl has been identified as Amina and she was spotted at a bus shelter in Christian Basti area. A Paltan Bazaar police team spotted her. A police officer later informed that she and her boyfriend were staying at Hotel Bandana at Paltan Bazar. According to reports, she had a fight with her boyfriend, which is why she had left the hotel. She had arrived with her boyfriend in the city five days ago from Ahmedabad. They had home quarantine stamps and were not permitted to roam around. Amina has now been shifted to the isolation ward of Contour Hotel. Her boyfriend has also been asked to do join her.

  • India’s coronavirus infection rate has been growing every day. Right now 724 people have been infected and 17 people are dead.

  • A 10-month-old baby in Karnataka tested positive for coronavirus. According to reports, the baby was suffering from severe respiratory illness and fever. The swab results of the tests came out positive. The baby’s family and close relatives have been quarantined.
