  1. A man from Bilasipara, Dhubri has tested #COVID positive. He has a history of being in touch with another patient, who was part of Athgaon Majid congregation in Guwahati. Total cases in state now stands at 35. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had tweeted on this.

  2. Assam govt. has started Rapid Antibody tests at Spanish Garden in Guwahati. An official tweet was sent out on this. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had tweeted, “After final nod from ICMRDELHI, we’ve started Rapid Antibody tests for #COVID19 from Spanish Garden – a containment zone. GoI has given 9600 Rapid Antibody test kits for IgM/IgG to Coronavirus. Test is non-confirmatory yet useful for mass surveillance. Gives results in 15 mints.”

  3. Assam government is trying to ensure academic year for students is not lost. Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on this. He had organised a video conference to discuss ways on this matter. The tweet read, “The #COVID19 crisis poses new challenges & at at the same time allowed us new ways of working. I held a video conf with 17 VCs of Assam to discuss ways to ensure that academic year is not lost, and to seek ideas & innovations for the learning & teaching framework.”

  4. Facebook post on Syed Abdul Malik’s poem ‘Moi Axomiya’ is in the middle of a controversy. Jorhat’s AASU unit now seeks legal action on this. The poem by the great stalwart has been misinterpreted after someone uploaded a few stanzas of it on social media claiming that the poem glorifies the Mughal. An FIR against Rupa Rani Bhuyan, who teaches English at Mangaldai College has been lodged by Sadou Asom Goria-Moria-Deshi Jatiya Parishad. Many well-known writers and dignitaries have condemned this vilification of one of the greatest literary figures of Assamese literature.

  5. Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has canceled Higher Secondary 1st year exams. Students will be promoted to Class XII. The exams were earlier scheduled from March 25 to April 10.

  6. Manipur CM lauds state police staff making masks to fight COVID-19 pandemic. He shared pictures of cops making masks and expressed his gratitude towards them.

  7. Meghalaya intends to complete evaluation of papers for SSLC by May 31. “The evaluation of papers for the SSLC should start immediately. We want that the results to be declared by June 10,” Meghalaya Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters. It was earlier decided that curfew passes will be arranged for evaluators so that the process can begin.

  8. Two people have died and three have been injured in thunder strike in West Khasi Hills. Hailstorms in Maweit area also derailed life. 65 homes were damaged on 20 April at around 2.00 AM due to this. Government officials are taking stock of the situation and assessing the damages.

  9. Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami & his wife and Republic TV Editor Samyabrata Ray Goswami were allegedly attacked by Congress party workers, claim reports. The attack took place 500 metres from their house. The attackers were caught by Arnab’s security. An FIR has been lodged against them. Arnab had slammed Congress leader Sonia Gandhi during a discussion related to Palghar lynching incident where two ‘sadhus’ or monks and their driver, proceeding from Nashik to Surat, were cornered and lynched by a 200-strong mob outside Gadchinchle village in Palghar district on April 16 in the presence of police personnel amid rumours that they were robbers or child kidnappers. BJP president J P Nadda tweeted condemning the incident.
