  • As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus, museums, libraries, coaching centres, beauty parlours and barber shops in Assam, will be shut until 31st March 2020, informed Finance, Health, Education and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

  • After the Centre invoked a 123-year-old Epidemic Diseases Act, Govt of Assam has come up with regulations for prevention & containment of Coronavirus called ‘The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020’ to deal with the situation better.

  • Amid coronavirus outbreak, North Easterners have reported increasing cases of racism against them.   • India reports 4th death from coronavirus after a 70-year-old man died in Punjab. A 70-year-old man who returned to Delhi from Germany via Italy on March 7 headed to Punjab on the same day. He was suffering from diabetes and hypertension. On March 18 he was confirmed positive after severe chest pain. The senior officials said that the man was tested positive and was immediately admitted to the hospital. The man died at a civil hospital in Banga in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur. His village and surrounding area up to a 3 km radius have been sealed and the government doctor who treated him is in self-isolation.

  • Government of India has informed that no scheduled international commercial passenger aircraft shall be allowed to land in India from March 22, 2020 for one week.

  • In a widely circulated WhatsApp message, a notice touted as an official message from Government of India regarding movement restriction, is actually fake. India’s press information bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Twitter handle informed

  • Opposition leaders led by Congress walked out of Rajya Sabha as former Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India Ranjan Gogoi took oath as Rajya Sabha MP. The Congress members shouted “Shame Shame” and walked out of the hall. The Communist Party of India, DMK and MDMK also joined in the protest.

  • An unfaithful husband in his late 30s has tested positive for COVID-19 after secretly traveling to Italy with his mistress. The UK man tested positive after he allegedly began showing symptoms for the novel virus while he was vacationing with his mistress. According to reports the man lied to his unsuspecting wife by telling her he was going on a business trip within the country. While returning home from his vacation, the man started feeling symptoms, went to the hospital for tests and was confirmed positive with COVID-19.
