  • Pablu Alberto Fernandez Garcia, a Spanish cyclist touring the world, was denied accommodation in hotels in Assam. He arrived in Silchar from Meghalaya on March 12, according to reports.After the cyclist reached out to a local police station he was given accommodation at the government circuit house. He had tested negative for coronavirus. He left for Mizoram the very next day. Dr. Ajit Bhattacharjee, Surveillance Officer, Cachar district, said, "The person had arrived in India several days ago. According to our guidelines, if any person arrives here after spending more than 14 days abroad, that person would be quarantined. When we received information about the Spanish person, we tested him at the civil hospital, and his result came out to be negative."

  • People in Dhemaji panicked after seeing a South Korean citizen in a public gathering. The foreigner national arrived Dhemaji on March 11 for business purpose. Since then, he has been staying at the Imperial Inn hotel of the town. On Tuesday, he participated in an inaugural function at a Korean therapy centre. Then, the district administration and the Health department quarantined him in his hotel room.

  • Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has launched a door to door campaign to create awareness on coronavirus. Deb distributed leaflets among people living in areas bordering Kailashahar at Unakoti district.The Tripura Chief Minister also interacted with local people to let them know how to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.

  • People of Naharkatiya in Dibrugarh decided to end Akhanda Bhagawat Path ceremony before its scheduled completion due to the dreaded coronavirus scare.  The Naharkatia Central Akhanda Bhagawat Path Samity organised the religious function with an eight-day-long agenda starting from March 14. However, the coronavirus scare compelled the organising committee to end the programme before March 22.

  • National Health Mission, Assam has conducted a day-long novel coronavirus screening camp at busy Paltan Bazaar area in Guwahati  on Tuesday,.  A group of doctors from the NHM has examined a large number of commuters. However, no suspected coronavirus case has been detected so far in the screening.

  • The Jorhat district committee of the Asam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad has presented this year’s Maghai Oja Award to author and researcher Dr. Paramanada Majumdar. The Award was presented to the author in a ceremony in Jorhat on Monday.

  • The Congress and the AIUDF will jointly fight in the upcoming BTC elections slated to be held on April 4. The pre-poll alliance will jointly contest in 20 constituencies out of total 40.

  • Akhil Gogoi, leader of the peasants’ organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity, has been granted bail by the NIA special court in Guwahati on Tuesday. The KMSS leader was arrested in December, 2019 when the anti-CAA protest spread across Assam. Later, Assam police handed him over to the NIA.  The central agency arrested him for his alleged involvement with the Maoists. However, the NIA failed to submit charge-sheet in the court within 90 days of the arrest. On this ground the NIA special judge granted bail to the KMSS leader on a surety of Rs.30 thousand, hearing a bail petition filed by Gogoi’s wife Gitasree Tamuly.

  • India has reported another death due to coronavirus. A 64-year-old patient has passed away at Kasturba hospital in Mumbai. The first case of death was reported from Karnataka, the second one from Delhi. Meanwhile, the doctor who treated patient from Karnataka’s Kalburgi region has tested positive for coronavirus. The 76-year-old man from Kalburgi was India’s first death case that occurred sue to coronavirus.
