In view of the threat posed by the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the district administration of Sivasagar has banned all kinds of public functions in the district from March 14 onwards.As per a notification, in pursuance of a video conference held on March 13, 2020, on Corona Virus with the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, all functions like public meetings, Nam Kirtan, Bhaona, Geeta Path etc are hereby banned with immediate effect until further order.
Government of India has announced to treat coronavirus as “notified disaster.” On that front, Government has announced Ex-Gratia payment to families of deceased persons.“ Rs 4.00 lakh per deceased including those involved in relief operations or associated in response activities, subject to certification regarding cause of death from appropriate authority,” the notification states. So far two deaths have occurred in India from coronavirus. More than 80 people have been infected from the virus.
Amid falling crude oil prices around the world, the Government of India has announced a hike on excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per litre on Saturday.The intention is to build revenue amid falling crude oil prices, claim reports.Special excise duty on petrol increased by Rs 2 to Rs 8 and in case of diesel to Rs 4.
Five people suspected to be infected with coronavirus escaped from isolation wards of Mayo Hospital in Nagpur.S Suryavanshi, Sub-Inspector, Nagpur Tehsil police station said “One of them had tested negative, reports of other four were awaited. We have traced them and they will be brought back to the hospital by the administration…The five suspects left the hospital and to inspect the matter, I visited the hospital. I learned that the suspects left the ward for snacks but didn’t return… Since it is a sensitive issue, we are coordinating with the staff of Mayo hospital.” Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that all theatres, gyms and swimming pools in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Pimpri Chinchwad will be shut until March 30 due to coronavirus scare.
IIT-Delhi students came up with an innovative chant to celebrate suspension of classes amid coronavirus scare. A viral video of the students celebrating with chants of “Jai corona” has gone viral. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has banned all conferences, seminars and sports events, including the IPL. There will be no gathering above 200 people in the national capital, Minister said.
