Amid lockdown, Assam police have urged Bihu Committees to only have five people to hoist flag. Additionally, hoisting can be restricted to 30 minutes. Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tweeted on this.
A 30-year-old man, who hails from Assam’s Nagaon district, committed suicide. He was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Akola, Maharashtra. He had developed symptoms after which he got himself admitted to the hospital and was found coronavirus positive. The man had allegedly slit his throat. He was found lying unconscious on the bathroom floor of the hospital, claim reports. The man later succumbed while undergoing surgery. According to reports he had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin Delhi.
Andhra Pradesh police have rescued a girl from Meghalaya after receiving a tip off from Meghalaya police and KSU New Delhi unit.“The DGP of Meghalaya, R. Chandranathan had contacted the DGP of Andhra Pradesh to brief about this girl. Following this conversation, the Andhra Pradesh police followed up the case and the girl was rescued from the house of the owner of the parlour,” East Khasi Hills SP, Claudia Lyngwa told media. The girl who was working at Anees Ladies Beauty Parlour, Hair Spa & Solutions has alleged harassment by employer of the parlour. The 21-year-old girl had to stay at the house of the owner as the lockdown was suddenly imposed. “The victim had planned of returning home prior to the nation-wide lockdown. But due to the sudden national lockdown she could not return home. The victim had attempted to commit suicide because of the abuse and threats by owner of the parlour,” KSU New Delhi unit vice president said.
A teacher in Lakhimpur has been arrested for posting communally offensive comments on social media. A case has been registered against the teacher, Pranabjyoti Sarma of Jamunakhat in Narayanpur, at Narayanpur police station. Sarma was arrested from his residence. Lakhimpur Police have so far registered 17 cases against those violating lockdown norms; arrested 28 people and seized 16 vehicles.
Two people have been detained for producing fake permit to transport vegetables during lockdown. The permit was actually issued to Mofizul Rahman, a vegetable seller of Borghuli village in Kaliabor but it was forged by the duo. Police seized two vehicles, loaded with vegetables from the duo. The ones detained had forged signature of additional district magistrate in-charge of Kaliabor Sub-division. It was an FIR lodged by sector magistrate S. Baruwati that detected the forged document and got the two people detained. The two were found at a vegetable market at Neauville Road in Jorhat.
After attending CMs meeting with PM modi, Delhi CM Kejriwal has tweeted, “PM has taken correct decision to extend lockdown. Today, India’s position is better than many developed countries because we started lockdown early. If it is stopped now, all gains would be lost. To consolidate, it is imp to extend it.”
BJP legislator A.S. Jayaram from Karnataka celebrated his 51st birthday at Karnataka Tumakuru district defying lockdown orders that prevents mass gatherings. Gubbi police inspector P.M. Nagaraj said that the BJP legislator said that the birthday was organised in a house compound at Ankalakuppe village in Gubbi taluk. “As Jayaram’s birthday coincided with the Hanuman Jayanthi function in the area, food was served to the people who gathered at the Anjaneya Swamy temple in the adjacent Manikuppe village,” Nagaraj told media. Social distancing was not observed when lemon rice was served, “as the village folk scrambled to grab the food packets,” admitted Nagaraj. The legislator was not available for comments.
