Assam now has total five positive cases of coronavirus. 4 new cases have tested positive in Guwahati. But the numbers can go up with more positive cases that can be expected from Dibrugarh & Jorhat, said state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The numbers can even touch double digit, he informed during a press conference.
Sarma also told that four residents of Assam have tested positive for coronavirus in Delhi. The names are: Naskar Ali of Baska (72), Fahruddin of Baska (48), Mustafa Ahmed of Barpeta (60), Md Ali of Nagoan (65). Sarma urged that people who came in touch with these four people should get themselves tested.
Sarma provided some update on Assam’s first COVID-19 patient. Sarma said that the patient who is currently being treated at Silchar hospital had gone to Delhi by Rajdhani Express. Between March 6 and March10, he attended the religious gathering in Nizamuddin, Delhi. After that he took Rajdhani train and came back to Guwahati. He had stayed at Morigaon and then went to Badarpur. Those people who were in touch with him have been quarantined.
More than 100 people with Nizamuddin connection are yet to be traced in Assam. Sarma mentioned that total of 547 people who attended the function in Delhi were from Assam. So far 68 people have not returned to the state. 134 have not been suspected prima facie. The remaining number is 347 out of which 230 people have been recognized so far. As of now 196 people’s sample have been collected so far.

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has been arrested by Dibrugarh police for under a case filed against him at Chabua police station. He was arrested before the hearing of the case could take place at Sivsagar jail. The due date for the hearing was in fact today. Gogoi said that the arrest was illegal as police did not have any warrant to make the arrest.
