On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Zubeen Garg in Nemcare Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Sonowal informed the media that he met Managing Director, Dr. Hitesh Baruah of Nemcare Hospital to learn about Zubeen’s health condition. After collapsing during an event at Guwahati Town Club, on Friday Garg was admitted to Nemcare Hospital. The doctor said he is in a stable condition now. Garg is under observation for 24 hours. The doctor said that he has been put on a liquid diet and that he needs rest. Meanwhile, Minister Naba Doley also visited Zubeen Garg at the hospital.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati extended judicial custody of Sharjeel Imam to another 14 days. He was produced before the court yesterday. Imam was charged with sedition for making offensive remarks on Assam and the Northeast in a video.
A teacher at Silchar’s Gurucharan (GC) College was arrested after students of the college filed an FIR against him for posting derogatory remarks on PM Modi. The students also alleged that the remarks were communal in nature and were against Hinduism. In the post which has now been deleted he has drawn some similar comparison between Delhi violence and Gujarat riots. After the teacher was slammed for his remarks, he posted an apology in which he said, ““I made some irresponsible comments about a communally sensitive issue. It was a lapse of judgment…My intention was not to insult any religion at large.”
Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy has appealed to tribals and non-tribals in Meghalaya to not fall prey to any kind of rumour. According to reports, central forces will be deployed in the region to ensure peace. The situation in the region deteriorated after a Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) member, Lurshai Hynniewta was killed following a clash with non-locals at Ichamati, Shella under East Khasi Hills District on Friday evening. As per info received after the meeting against CAA and demanding ILP, non-tribals cornered the KSU leaders; this led to a clash between the KSU activists and the non-tribals who were well armed with machetes and sticks.
In a widely circulated video from Delhi violence, wounded men lying on the ground are being prodded by cops to sing National Anthem by the police. One of the men 23-year-old Faizan has died. He succumbed to his injuries at Delhi’s Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital on Friday.Police had allegedly arrested the youngsters. They were taken into police custody. Faizan was among the group. He was tortured in custody, claim reports. He was then released from custody post which he was taken to a hospital Faizan is a resident of Kardampuri in northeast Delhi.
On Saturday morning six people were detained for chanting, “Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro saalon ko” (“shoot the traitors”) in Delhi inside the Rajiv Chowk metro station. Later, another video surfaced showing a group of men walking around with the national flag and shouting the same slogan in the Connaught Place, where the Rajiv Chowk metro station is located.
Indian government has officially cancelled the visa of Jakob Lindenthal, an exchange student from Germany at IIT-M who was asked to leave the country for flouting visa regulations. He was seen participating in anti-CAA protests holding a placard that read, “Uniformed Criminals-Criminals.” The student said the Indian Embassy in Germany told him that his visa has been cancelled on February 8, but did not give any reasons.
