It is Maha Shivaratri tonight. This is a major festival in Hinduism annually observed in honour of Lord Shiva. The occasion is also known as 'Padmarajarathri' and 'The Great Night of Shiva'. On this day devotees worship Lord Shiva, observe strict fast and do various religious activities to please Lord Shiva. Devotees further believe that by pleasing Lord Shankara on the auspicious Shivaratri day, a person is absolved of past sins and is blessed with Moksha or salvation.
Agartala, Guwahati and Imphal airports in the Northeast have completed a year as “single-use plastic-free” terminals. As of now, there are 85 such terminals within the country. Various steps have been undertaken by AAI to eliminate the single-use plastic items at passenger terminals and city side of AAI airports. These steps include banning of singleuse plastic items like straws, plastic cutleries, plastic plates etc. AAI is also enhancing its waste management systems and is promoting the use of ecofriendly sustainable alternatives like use of biodegradable garbage bags in the garbage bins and installation of plastic bottle crushing machine at airports.
Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Friday paid a visit at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) and was dissatisfied to see the attendants sitting on the bed of the patients along with their luggage. During his visit he spotted many attendants were sitting on the bed along with luggage as there was a shortage of seating arrangement in the OPD waiting and consultation area. The Governor immediately called the authorities at the hospital and directed them to make necessary seating arrangements for patient’s attendants.
Amulya Leona, a student activist from Karnataka was charged with sedition and sent to 14 days of judicial custody for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans. In a video widely circulated in social media her speech is disrupted by a group of people who snatch away her mike as soon as she says Pakistan Zindabad. “She (Amulya Leona) wanted to talk about what she had written in her Facebook post in the protest, but unfortunately she started with ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. Organisers should have allowed her to complete her speech,” one of the friend said during an interview.

The UP irrigation government believes that this will also improve the oxygen level in the Yamuna in Mathura and in Agra, and remove the foul smell.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju spoke about structural reforms that can turn India into a sporting powerhouse. “From this year, we are going to start junior TOPS scheme, so that means we will start funding the junior, at the age of 12, 13, 14,” Rijiju said during the launch of a book called ‘Dreams of a Billion India and the Olympic Games’ co-written by Boria Majumdar and Nalin Mehta.
