Six samples from Manipur which were sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune tested negative for coronavirus, instead two samples out of those sent tested positive for swine flu. Out of the two positive cases of swine flu, one had just returned from China whereas the other contacted it after coming in contact with the first person. The two people have been detected with mild symptoms and have been isolated in their homes.

Assam registers maximum number of cancer cases within NE region, healthcare experts from Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) said during an event at the Assembly Annexe Aizawl , on Tuesday, February 4 which was also World Cancer Day. Officials also said that approximately 725 people every year in Mizoram die due to cancer, making the North Eastern State the “cancer capital of India.” Early-stage detection of the condition can go a longway to prevent deaths due to cancer.

The Dibrugarh NCC team which was part of the North Eastern Region (NER) Contingent that was crowned champions for the first time in this year’s Republic Day competition in New Delhi were accorded a rousing welcome on their arrival at Dibrugarh Railway Station on Wednesday. The 11 cadets were received by officers, JCOs, NCOs and fellow cadets of NCC Group Dibrugarh on their arrival by the Rajdhani Express.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Parliament that a trust called Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha kshetra will look into matters related to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and related issues. The Prime Minister said the decision has been taken in line with the verdict of the Supreme Court which had called for the construction of Ram Mandir in disputed land and alternative land to be given to Muslims.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday gave Nirbhaya rape convicts a week’s time to seek any sort of legal help or remedy after which proceedings for their execution will start.  The Court also said that all four convicts will be hanged together and not separately.

Gunja Kapoor, a woman who entered Shaheen Bagh protest area in a burqa was heckled by protestors on Wednesday. Protestors grew suspicious after she asked ‘too many questions.’ On frisking her it was found that she was carrying a camera. As the crowd started heckling her she was carried away from the protest venue by the police. Kapoor on her twitter account calls herself an “ Analyst, amateur writer…”

Superstar Rajinikanth said that Muslims have nothing to fear as CAA is not meant for taking away their citizenship. He said that he would be the first to speak up if ever citizenships of Indian Muslims are taken away. He supported NPR and said that the process is important to learn about “outsiders.” Rajinikanth also insisted that students should think before plunging into violent activities as many vested interests could be using them as mere pawns.
