  • Union Finance Minister announced Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package - Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana’ for the poor to help them fight the battle against Coronavirus. While addressing the press conference here on Thursday, Sitharaman said, “Today’s measures are intended at reaching out to the poorest of the poor, with food and money in hands, so that they do not face difficulties in buying essential supplies and meeting essential needs.”

  • Government of Assam to train 700 final-year MBBS, 2000 nursing students & 300 paramedics - The Assam Government will train 700 MBBS final-year students and 2000 final-year students of nursing to strengthen the pool of doctors and nurses currently engaged in the battle against novel coronavirus in the State. The government will also train 300 youths to work as paramedical staffs for the same purpose.

  • Follow social distancing and lockdown guidelines seriously: All Assam Students Union - The All Assam Students Union has appealed to the masses of the State to seriously follow the guidelines issued by the WHO (World Health Organization), the Central and the State governments against coronavirus especially during the 21-day lockdown period.

  • Provide timetable for goods trains: All India Railwaymen’s Federation - The All India Railwaymen’s Federation, while welcoming the country-wide 21-day lockdown in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, appealed to the chairman of the Railway Board to draw out a time table for goods trains carrying essential commodities. In a message to the chairman of the Railway Board, the president of AARF, Rakhal Das Gupta stated that the Railways should make comprehensive plan to draw out roster for skeleton essential staff to run the goods trains. He also appealed to the Board to take steps for cleaning and fogging the Railway colonies, including roadside stations.

  • Coronavirus: 1,387 People Kept In Isolation at Jorhat District - A total of 1,387 people have been kept in isolation while 5,761 people coming to Jorhat via buses, trains or flights have been screened. Total 52 persons have returned from abroad to the district of Jorhat, said Roshni Aparanji Korati, the Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, on Thursday. The Administration has taken this measure to check the spread of the novel coronavirus.
