  • Janata Bhawan closed for public as a preventive measure against Cronovirus - The Assam government has banned common people's entry into the Dispur Janata Bhawan on Wednesday as a part of its measures to check outbreak of the coronavirus. The secretariat administration has served a notice in this regard which came into effect immediately. The restriction will be in place till March 31.

  • **SC uses Art 142 to stop Manipur Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar entering Assembly - **Exercising the power under Article 142 of the Indian Constitution the Supreme Court of India has served an order stopping Manipur Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar from entering the state Assembly.  The SC also ordered that he will no longer a cabinet minister as the Assembly Speaker did not pursue his disqualification process.A bench headed by Justice RF Nariman passed the order. Shyamkumar was a Congress defector.

  • **Crop Damage in 2019 Floods; Farmers yet to be compensated **- Once again the state BJP-led government’s apathy towards the farmers  has come into light as it is yet to provide compensation to the thousands of Assam farmers who had suffered huge losses due to the damage of their crops by floods in 2019.

  • **APSC SCAM: Gauhati High Court quashes 49 petitions **- Guwahati High court, on Wednesday turned down pleas filed by 49 dismissed gazetted officers, who were arrested for their alleged involvement with the APSC cash-for-job scam. The officers filed petitions in the High Court challenging and seeking a stay order on their dismissal order. The petitioners alleged that their dismissal order was ex-parte. The HC concluded hearing of their pleas a month earlier and reserved the verdict. On Wednesday, the Court dismissed the pleas while delivering its verdict

  • **Bars, parlours & night clubs shut in Assam due to coronavirus scar **- Assam government has brought more areas under restrictions as precautionary measures for effective prevention/contamination of coronavirus within the State. All bars, pubs, night clubs, beauty parlours, saloon (unisex) etc will remain closed till further orders with immediate effect from Wednesday.

The authorities are maintaining the queue of visitors and are allowing them to get inside the jail premises one by one. The move is to prevent potentially disastrous coronavirus outbreak among prisoners and staff in close quarters where disease can easily spread.
