The 'Success Scaffolding' framework is a structured approach to achieving significant goals by providing the necessary support and structure. It was developed by Jonathan Fields after repeatedly setting ambitious goals that fizzled out due to a lack of proper support and structure. The framework incorporates seven key elements (the 7 P's) to help individuals envision, plan, and achieve transformative life changes.
The three 'good life buckets' are vitality, connection, and contribution. These buckets represent key areas of life that, when filled, lead to a fulfilling and meaningful existence. Reflecting on these buckets helps individuals identify goals that align with their deepest desires and values.
'Clear as day' goals are those where you have a precise, detailed vision of success from the start, such as completing a 10K race or knitting a specific sweater. 'Along the way' goals, on the other hand, are more ambiguous initially, with details emerging as you take action, like writing a novel. The distinction helps in tailoring the planning process to the nature of the goal.
Asking 'why' multiple times helps uncover the deeper, more meaningful purpose behind a goal. This deeper understanding provides the motivation needed to persevere when challenges arise. For example, completing a 10K might initially seem about confidence, but deeper questioning reveals it's about reclaiming health to be present for loved ones.
The six roles of support people are co-strivers (those working on similar goals), champions (cheerleaders who encourage you), accountants (those who hold you accountable), mentors (experienced individuals who guide you), community (a group that provides a sense of belonging), and challengers (those who push you to refine and improve your approach).
The three key practices are meditation, breathing exercises, and movement. Meditation helps cultivate mindfulness and resilience, breathing exercises regulate the nervous system, and movement enhances physical and psychological well-being. These practices support focus, calm, and energy during challenging goal pursuits.
A pledge is a tangible commitment to your goal, often written or recorded, that reinforces your dedication. It leverages the consistency principle, where individuals strive to act in alignment with their prior commitments. Sharing the pledge with supportive people can further strengthen accountability and motivation.
