Summary by author Kevin:
This podcast mainly compares the cognition of psychiatric disability in Chinese and American culture. In order to discuss this topic, the host conducted a survey on a Chinese and an American respectively. In China, only those who have been ill for more than a year and have not been cured are medically called psychiatric disabilities. However, there is no such time limit in the United States. Generally speaking, the way of defining psychiatric disability in China and the United States is almost the same: "Psychiatric disability is considered to be a condition that can not engage in the activities that the society expects individuals to participate in, or can not achieve personal goals, as well as the existence of cognitive, emotional and behavioral disorders that affect the participation in daily life and activities." Then, the host and guests discussed how people should eliminate discrimination against the psychiatric disability and how people should change their attitudes towards the mentally disabled.
