Hi, I'm Mayim Bialik. I'm Jonathan Cohen. Welcome to our audio breakdown, the place where we break things down so you don't have to. We're coming to you today for a special episode, audio only this time. Mostly what's important to know is that everyone is naked. That's why we're doing it on audio. Our new thing for 2025 is podcasting naked. No, just kidding. We're doing an audio episode where we're going to tackle expectations for the year.
and trying to see if we can find ways to add to our arsenal of things that we use to make decisions, to make predictions, and to make plans about our love life, about our careers, about kind of how we should operate in the world. So many of us use personality tests or therapists, and this is an episode where we're going to talk with
Ofi and Tali Adut, the astro twins, about how astrology can be yet another tool that you use for a place of introspection, perspective and planning. Also, we're going to explore the idea that there are natural cycles to the Earth's evolution that can increase the probability of things like who might become president, if countries go to war or not.
And on a personal level, are there times of year that we may have more opportunities for love and financial success? With everything I've known and learned about from mostly from these two women and astrology, it hadn't occurred to me to look back and say,
Are the planets doing anything in 2025 that they've done before? And we're going to talk about certain things that the planets did in a very critical period in the 1940s and one of the most pivotal moments in this country's history.
Planets are doing a very interesting orientation that echoes some changes that we may see more of. So the Astro Toons are also going to talk about their 2025 horoscope book. We're also going to give you a special code for you to get a discount off that book, which is super awesome. Let's welcome Ofi and Tali to The Breakdown.
What is up with this year already? Now, for those of us in Southern California, it has been a series of emotions that most of us hope not to experience in our life, much less in the course of the first days and weeks of a year. And it's been a lot of very intense emotion, a lot of uncertainty, a lot of fear. From your perspective, and then we'll kind of back up and talk about how we get this perspective, what is happening with this year?
Yeah, definitely. I mean, there are many things from the astrology to the lunar year to the numerology that have made the entry into 2025 so intense. Here in New York, as we're watching what's going on in LA, it's like it's like feels like a combination of 9-11 and Hurricane Sandy, where you feel like
You don't know what's going to happen from moment to moment. And a power or a force greater than you is at play. So there are some similarities, especially in the lunar year, to a couple of those. For starters, the numerology of 2025 is a nine year. And that's the final year in a numerology cycle. The last one was 2016. So we have...
A couple of similarities in terms of who's taking office. And nine is a year of transition, release, surrender, change.
the unexpected and they're they're preparing us for new nine year cycles what makes it a nine year just since you're probably wondering is in numerology you add up the digits of the year so two plus zero plus two plus five winds up calling nine so every number has a vibration to it
And nine is the end of the numerology cycle. Nine is about transition, spirituality, letting go, releasing and preparing for the one year, which is 2026.
And everything even astrologically kind of mirrors that. So, I mean, we can just dive right into it or maybe you want. No, this is this is no, this is super helpful. We almost skipped over it. There was a cycle that ended or it began when Trump took office last time. And now that cycle ended and he's back.
I love that you picked up on that. Isn't that wild? So we started a one, the one to nine cycle on January 1st of 2017, and it'll end December 31st of 2025. So it's really strange. I was looking back at other nine years, nine to one year. So 2007 and it's,
I think 1999 and 1989. I have to confirm that, but it's a reckoning. It's, it's humanities report card. That's what we kind of said when we were asked about the election and who was going to win. Um,
I mean, the odds were stacked toward Trump astrologically, but we said whoever won, it would be kind of a report card of where we are in terms of working together and selfishness versus unity and community as we're moving into...
the first full year of a 20-year cycle of Pluto being an Aquarius. It's getting crazy already. It's getting cosmic. Let's just back it up just so we can kind of give a little bit of framework for how we're going to
How we're going to look at 2025 with the two of you today. Before we even get into some of the trends, like your 2025 trend report, your 2025 horoscope, literally like, it's like 7 million pages. No, it's 600 some pages and it needs to be that long. But...
Before we even go there, I wonder if you can give us a little bit of framework for people who love astrology, like welcome, awesome, great to have you here. And for people who might be curious, what is it like to look at the world through a lens that we weren't taught about in school, that many people have studied for thousands and thousands of years, many people have denigrated for thousands and thousands of years. I'm reminded of
a Kanye West quote that says, you can live through anything if magic made it. And I wonder if you can give us a little bit of a framework. Why approach the world with a sense of wonder, magic, possibility, and things that maybe we can't understand the way we understand linear mechanics? What do you gain from approaching the world the way the two of you do and the way that you encourage so many to do?
It's another way of trend forecasting, just like anything else. You're looking at cycles. The planets all move through each zodiac sign in a very specific cycle. We can go back thousands of years and we can go forward thousands of years and know everything.
where each planet is. So as the planets orbit through the sky, they'll cross through, it's kind of like a Monopoly board. They'll cross through a little bit of real estate. Each of the 12 signs owns a square on that Monopoly board. We use geometry and it's 30 degrees. So the way we kind of look at the planets are different.
like actors, the cast of actors in the movie of our lives. Each one has been given a role, a legend, a mythology, and a role to play. And then when it's moving through that real estate, it's taking on the zodiac sign's qualities. It's always a little touchy to go back and analyze a thing like
the wildfires in LA and the tragedy there through astrology. But we also have to look and wonder and say, what's happening? And one of the things, to give an example, Mars, which is the planet, it's a ruler of Aries, the fire sign, it's a planet of war and destruction. And every 24 months, 18 to 24 months, it turns retrograde, meaning it passes the Earth in its orbit and
It kind of has this extra challenging impact. It can go haywire. And so Mars turned retrograde in Leo.
On December 6th, which is very much a Hollywood energy rules, kind of the haves versus the have nots. And that was really right before, was it like a couple of days after Luigi Mangione did his thing? And then it backed up into cancer, which rules our homes, residential properties on January 6th and February.
We kind of look and say, why is this happening? We tend to ask after things happen, but looking at astrology as these repeating cycles and being able to plan ahead and know, you know, because Mars is turning retrograde, there's always something kind of intense that happens. The Pulse nightclub shooting happened during a Mars retrograde about 10 years ago at this point now. When the Black Lives Matter movement
protests turned into clashes with police in Portland that was during a recent Mars retrograde. So there always tends to be something intense and even destructive that happens during those cycles. And we hope it doesn't, but you just start to see patterns with astrology. I mean, there's other really big ones that are happening this year, too. Do you think that
these things can be predicted? Like bad things happen all the time. So it's kind of like if you're saying, hey, astrology predicted bad things, you could be like, well, bad things were going to happen somewhere, right? But what does it mean to view the world like we have other information that we're being given that we may not know how to codify, but people who study it can intuitively start to see these patterns?
It's like having a cosmic weather vane. A meteorologist will say, oh, these conditions are present. That could mean that there'll be a tropical storm because we know from experience that that often does happen with those conditions, but it's not guaranteed. And...
It's true. It does seem absurd to people who haven't studied it. When we were on last time, we got such a fun mix and range of reactions to astrology being on your podcast. And it's funny because science really is about observation, right? To a certain extent. I'm not saying this is or isn't science, but...
We make a hypothesis, we test it. And of course, you have to have a certain amount of data and statistics that go along with it in the process. But astrologers are really using something of a loose scientific process when they're making predictions. People can turn up their noses all they want at astrology, and it's very trendy to sort of be intellectually elitist about it.
What are some of the stats on the people that rely on astrology or at the least enjoy using astrology as some sort of guideline for their life? What are some of those statistics? It was in Yahoo Finance and even in Forbes this past late summer, there was a study done that I believe it was 63% of Gen Z Americans, adults use astrology in their careers. And there's
There's a Harris poll with a lot of very comprehensive stats. Apparently, 90% of people read their horoscopes and believe in astrology that they surveyed. So what do you think they're looking for? I think they're looking for support with making decisions. I don't know.
if it's changed since I read it a few years ago, but the average adult makes 35,000 decisions a day. And I think 90 to 95% with their subconscious. So we're kind of driving without the GPS here. And yeah,
And we don't know where to start. We're overwhelmed by all the choices and decisions. So I think they're looking for some narrowing of the scope there. Like, help me, like, get out of analysis paralysis and keep my life moving forward because we can't afford to stop.
financially. Maybe we have kids, relationships, ourselves, so many different things we're juggling. So we actually use astrology for our people. We present it often as like a decision making tool where they can feel some calm and clarity and confidence in saying, you know, I'm going to go this way instead of just like, oh, I'm going to hide under the bed 2025. And I think that's one of the things that people get wrong about astrology. It's not about this is what's going to happen to you and it's deterministic.
It's about what if we present you with some patterns and some ideas and see where you are drawn? Which parts of you can we call on, right? Which is what any good parts therapist would do. Which parts of you can we call on to recruit reasoning and decision making given this kind of platter? Right. Exactly. To make an acting metaphor, like...

Billions of people around the world consult astrology. And to Ofi's point, we do. We make like over 30,000 decisions a day. And I think people are interested in a connection to a universe that is greater than themselves, believing that there is a pattern, a rhythm to life that can explain why am I drawn to something at one time versus not. I think people believe and want to believe that
they are unique in their spiritual DNA, that they are on a path that is uniquely theirs in the world, and that there are guideposts that their path will become easier. They will find love. They will have more success. The roadblocks will feel less treacherous if only they can find these guides or be in a flow that will
will help them along the way. And I think that's why people go to intuitives. That's why they look to astrology. And astrology is like this map that says what you're going through is uniquely yours, but also it is part of a larger system of energy, of timing, and that there are cycles to life. And if we know how to operate within these cycles and look for these things,
then life will be easier. I'll have more hope. I'll be at the right place at the right time. I'll get that intuition. And when we think about success being hard work meets opportunity, we'll know where that right moment is and we won't be pushing the boulder up the hill
I should have asked Jonathan what are people looking for. We're three Sages here. We had to ask the empathic cancer to sum it up. What Jonathan said is kind of why we call astrology spiritual technology rather than science.
because it really is an energy system, a spiritual system, but it also has a technology. It is a system that anyone can learn. And there's kind of two pieces to it. There is your birth chart. If we kind of freeze frame the planets at your exact moment of birth,
They're all going to be lined up with different zodiac signs, plus the sun and the moon. So we all know our zodiac signs, our sun signs, which is Sagittarius for the ladies here and Cancer for Jonathan. But you have a moon sign, you have a Mercury, Venus, Mars. They're all in different places. Only someone born in the same minute, in the same time zone will share that chart. It's very unique. And for us, that's how we got obsessed with it because we
we discovered that we had moon, Mercury, Mars and Venus and Scorpio, which is a very different energy, a very curious, mystical, investigative energy. And that,
really filled in some blanks about who we were that we always felt, but it led us down this path of discovering and wanting to do everyone's chart around us. So there's that piece, like learning your factory settings according to the stars. And then there's also tracking where the planets are in their movements. And that's what we do every year in our giant 6 million word book.
Well, and that's sort of what I wanted to talk a little bit about as we're starting 2025. Reading your horoscope every day is fun or once a month or, you know, when you get a magazine. But there are things about the patterns of the year itself. So I wonder if you can talk a little bit about some of the things that are happening in 2025.
So the outer planets, which are Jupiter through Pluto, Pluto is still a planet in astrology. They move very slowly through each sign. Jupiter spends about a year in every sign. Pluto, since it's so far out in the sun, 12 to 30 years. Just to clarify, these outer planets, they're the ones, quote, farthest away.
away and they spend more time because their orbit has a larger diameter. Exactly. Simple geometry. Okay. Three of the outer planets are changing signs for part of the year and then they're swinging back to the signs they've been in for a while. Saturn, which has been in Pisces for a couple years,
swings into Aries for a couple months from March 24th until September 1st and back into Pisces and then in
In 2026, these three planets plant themselves in these new suns for a longer period. But Uranus is another one that does the pendulum swing. It's Uranus. I will correct you every time. All right. All right. I'll call it Uranus. So Uranus is moving into Gemini from Saturn.
July 7th to November 7th. And it hasn't been there since 1940 to 49. A lot happened in those years. Those were some big years for the planet. Yeah. Neptune is the other one. It's moving into Aries for the first time since 1862 to 1875. And that was a real huge shift. While it was in Pisces, which it will be for part of the year, and it does the pendulum swing from Pisces to Aries to Pisces again.
But that was the time of the spiritualist movement when people were having seances in their houses. And something else that's kind of interesting that you talk about happening in 2025, anyone who knows one thing about astrology knows like Mercury's in retrograde is something that people say when they're like cranky, angry and everything's breaking and you're tripping over the air.
So there are three retrogrades. Is that right? Yeah. Every planet goes retrograde for part of the year. The outer planets, so slow, big diameter ones, they'll go retrograde for four to five months of every year. But the inner planets, the ones closest to the sun, they're
affect our day-to-day lives. According to astrology, Mercury is communication, Venus is love, Mars is kind of our drive and energy level. So we'll feel them more acutely according to horoscopes when those planets are retrograde. Mercury turns retrograde three times every year for about three weeks. Venus every 18 months.
And Venus is going retrograde. Venus, the planet of love. Interestingly enough, I think it was in Leo when Bennifer got together for 2.0 and they're both Leos and it was retrograde in Leo and started to get a little choppy for them. It started when it was retrograde in Leo in 2023. But
Yeah, we have a Venus retrograde from March 1st, April 12th this year. So what should I do or not do at that time? I mean, what happens actually when Venus goes retrograde is it changes from an evening star to a morning star. So the evening star Venus, the ancients used to think that there were actually two different planets for Venus because Venus would appear...
at dusk. And then there's a period of time where it disappears right in the middle of the retrograde. And then it appears again in
right before dawn. So it switches from Hesperus, which was its old evening star name, which means west. It would rise in the west to Phosphorus, which is morning light. So this is where astrologers come in. We're like, thanks, astronomers. We gotcha. So we're going to say that this is a time since Venus is a love goddess where we put old, tired love stories to bed.
And then we wake up a new energy in our love lives. I think you could look at it two ways. If you're like skeptical, meaning you're like,
yeah, I don't believe most of this, but I'm open. Show me. You could be like, well, you know, every relationship could use a six-week refresher every 18 months, so why don't I just use it whether it's true or not? What if we don't have to know so much if it's true, but we lean into the possibility that if you're going to plan something...
I kind of like this idea. So when is my love repair supposed to happen? First to April 12th. Okay, great. There might be like a holiday in there you could take, a special weekend. If you've been saving up money to be like, I'm going to do something nice with my partner, maybe that's the time to do it. Maybe just see what happens if you did that. So let's do the same thing for career. What?
What time of 2025 might be the time to give your two weeks notice and start your fantastic new life? Not during Mercury retrograde. Of course not. You don't want to sign a contract. You don't want to deal with money. I know what not to do during Mercury and retrograde. Yeah. And actually Venus also rules money and the things we value. So that's also not a great time.
With Mars, which is drive and ambition, and Jupiter, which is opportunity and luck and optimism, both are retrograde at the start of 2025. And I feel like a lot of people are getting a slow start, not only because of the fires, but in general. But on February 3rd, Jupiter is going to go out of retrograde. So...
that would be a time according to astrology to take more risks. And if you're like, Oh, I'm reaching out to people. I'm not getting any bites. See what happens if you, if you follow up in early February and Mars being our ambition and drive being retrograde till February 23rd could affect. Well, in our book, we take it specific to each Zodiac sign because depending on your sign, you,
the planet and the sign it's retrograde in is going to touch a different piece of that monopoly board of your chart, the real estate. So for one sign, it might be happening in a family and home part of their chart. Another, it might be in a career part. So that's why we write the book every year so that you can get a little more granular and personalized. Love that. And if you
Yeah, if you want to do it fully for yourself, you get a chart reading with an astrologer, us or someone else. And then we can look at what's uniquely you and only you. Another thing that you talk about, you talk about colors. Every year, whatever paint company that is, I don't know, and they don't sponsor the podcast, we don't need to say, but they always come out with a color. And my kids in the last few years are like, did you hear what the color is? And I'm like, what does that mean? Like, what do you mean there's like a color?
But I do notice and I'm not someone who follows trends, which is, I think, why astrology for me is a little bit like a learning curve, because I don't like I wear the same thing every year, literally my whole life, just like different variations of the same thing every year, year round. It's the same. I listen to the same music I've listened to since I was like 12 years old. Like it's just classic rock all the time. I mean, there's a couple new things spliced in there.
But one of the things that you talk about is colors. And I was thinking this is something that like for people who do like trends, for people who do like to mix things up.
We know that different wavelengths make us feel different ways. We know that different smells make us feel different ways, different sounds, but different colors. People always say like, don't paint your kitchen yellow or everyone will be fighting all the time. And I joke like I was raised with a yellow kitchen. Maybe that was the problem. But anyway, lavender oil is a thing. It is a calming scent. Like that's something that we know. Colors can do the same thing. And I was thinking if I want to bring color
compassion, mystery and refinement into my life, I think Dusky Rosewood needs to happen. So tell us about the colors of the year. That's all Tali. And, you know, we went to art school. So we're like, let's play around with, you know, each of the planets being in the sign that it's in could bring a very different energy. So you have to think of the amalgamation. That's how we came up with the divine pendulum, because
This pendulum swing is very disorienting, but our way through that is to really find some awe in the divine, the spiritual, the mystical this year. There's a couple other things.
pulls towards Pisces this year, which is the 12th sign, the most ethereal sign, and the nine year being the end of the nine cycle, the numerology cycle. So it just felt like the colors this year should be ones that supported more of an inner contemplation.
That burnished terracotta, dusky rosewood, smoky amethyst and jade forest. I was kind of picturing like going out to the woods with your crystals and just...
Being in that, it's a moody vibe, a little bit of a gray vibe. It's a little bit of a melancholy year, but not in a way that zaps your joy, but maybe that expands your emotional palette. You know, your book has always,
really kind of predictions and trends for sort of every aspect of our existence, everything from the environment to psilocybin research to compassion, AI, you know, technology. Can you talk a bit about what this year might look like for War and Peace?
Because, you know, 2024 was enormous. You know, many people are saying, are we going to look back and say 2024 was the beginning of World War III and we didn't see it, right? Or it's a different kind of structure of war that we're living in. Can you talk about what...
We can look forward to. Yeah, for sure. Well, Tali mentioned Pisces. So there are two points. They're called the lunar nodes. They're actually part of Kabbalistic astrology too. They're the destiny points. The south node is kind of what's buried in the shadows or where we have some shadow work to do. And then the north node is this energy that comes racing out and
calls for us to interact with it. So from July of 2023 until January 11th of 2025, the nodes, which are always an opposite sign, so there's a lot of polarity, were in Libra, which is peace, and Aries, which is war. Shortly after that, we had October 7th and everything happened with the Israel-Hamas war. And then
Less than a week after they shifted out of the war and peace signs, there's finally the beginning of a ceasefire deal being brokered. And that's also been the year of the dragon since February 10th, and it is of 2024. And that is associated with Aries as well, if we give it a Western equivalent.
And that's going on until this January 29th. Unfortunately, war is not ending. We have Saturn and Neptune moving into Aries. And then we have this, we have some cycles that are repeating over
you know, the 1940s with Uranus going into Gemini. No surprise that I think AI is especially going to develop a lot faster. So when we make these predictions, which are as much of a prediction as anyone else is making, we really do look at like when were a few of the last times that the cycle happened and try to find common themes and patterns and see what
And then we kind of make a hypothesis based on that. So it's always different because the 1940s had Uranus and Gemini, but did not have Saturn and Aries. That was the Civil War time. So it wasn't, it's never going to be the same mix. It's going to be a different mix of ingredients with some Pisces energy in the mix, which is the opposite of war. I mean, it does have hidden enemies can be there, but it can also be like
deep, divine healing as well. So we also like to say, well, what's the opportunity here for humanity and our consciousness? The message I'm taking from looking at this mix of planets this year is that
technology and consciousness will both be expanding at a very fast rate for people. And I don't think that was true of the 1940s. You know, I think people were very materialistic during that time more, and it was more focusing on that kind of security, especially after the Great Depression and everything. I don't want to say materialistic, but materially oriented. It's not that we aren't because, you know,
We know everything is so expensive now. But with Pluto and Aquarius for the first time since the late 1700s, Aquarius is the sign of community and the collective. And it's going to be there until...
early 2044. So we have the war cycles combined with these really healing Pisces and this really deep transformational humanitarian one. So just going back to LA, just even seeing like this devastation, but then this beautiful way that people are coming together for each other. And
How these two entire communities, even though they're supposedly wealthy and not wealthy, everyone is equal in terms of having lost their home. They're equalized by that. And we saw that with 9-11 and Hurricane Sandy in a different way in New York. And 9-11 was during the year of the snake. And now we have another year of the snake. So...
I don't know. That's not really a full answer, but... What can people look forward to this year? You talked about expanding consciousness. Can you talk a little bit more about that and about what else people may be looking forward to in 2025? Yeah, let's get a little hope. Yeah.
So Jupiter, which is what you can look forward to, is in Gemini for the first half of the year, which rules media and communication and neighborhoods. So we can look forward to people looking out for each other, speaking, you know, finding new ways of communicating well with each other. And then Venus.
It'll be in cancer in the second half of the year, which is for you. It was great. And that's a sign of home and family, also real estate. So, yeah.
We will definitely be seeing changes in the way people live, whether it's creating new models for housing. You know, there's all these trends forecasted for kind of a golden girls for all, co-housing, co-living. Sounds good to me personally, but I'm the daughter of a kibbutz father. But people living more communally and looking out for each other, even if it's a small amount of the population, yeah.
You know, any amount is a good amount, I'd say. I really appreciate the notion of hope and also kind of balancing out a lot of these predictions. I respect that you're not sort of unilateral about how these things work. And I just really appreciate the notion that people use all sorts of things.
to plan, right? They use all sorts of resources to plan when they're going to do things or when it's convenient or, you know, when the U.S. government has decided it's a three-day weekend, right? We take advantage of that to go on vacation, daylight savings. Like, people use all sorts of things. So I love that this is something else to kind of add to our arsenal. and getting to hear your perspectives and find new ways to be inspired. Because if you're stuck in any way or you feel stuck or something's not working, how about trying something new this year? That's what I'm up for. So glad to have you part of that. Thank you so much. It's something to try on. It's like...
You don't have to believe in astrology or, you know, but play with, like you said, see, play with making your love life better from March 1st, April 12th. And if it was simply the prompt of astrology that did that, well, no one's going to suffer from that. Absolutely. Thank you so much. Thank you. And happy 2025. Jonathan, thank you so much for encouraging us to continue to talk to Ofi and Tali. I'm, I'm,
continually and consistently impressed by the framing that they put on what they do, how they do it, and why they do it. And I really especially appreciated your framing of being open to a world of wonder and possibility that might need guidance from places that you haven't yet tapped into. Other parts of the world use astrology to predict marriage and decide things
what the best couples are going to be. But here in the West, 63% of Gen Z adults use astrology in their career to try to navigate. And 90% of people read their horoscope at least sometimes. So we're seeing a resurgence of people interested in this tool to try to make sense of the world. Well, I'm all about making sense of the world. And if you would like to check out our full episode with Ofi and Tali, please do that on our YouTube channel or anywhere that you listen to podcasts.
And from our breakdown, the one we hope you never have, we'll see you next time. It's my and Bialik's breakdown. She's going to break it down for you. She's got a neuroscience PhD. And now she's going to break down. It's a breakdown. She's going to break it down. Every day, our world gets a little more connected, but a little further apart. But then there are moments that remind us to be more human.
