Why do we tell stories about heroes? Because every story needs a hero. I had some Marines that were wounded, went back and I said, I'm going to go back to my Marines. So I went in seven times and brought back seven Marines out.
The person who does something improbable or unexpected, who puts principle above self-preservation, who acts in a way that makes you sit up and take notice. It was very surreal because he had his helmet on, his body armor on, and his boots on, but he didn't have anything else on because it had been burned off of him. I'm Malcolm Glabel, and I want to tell you about our newest podcast, Medal of Honor, the stories of the recipients of the highest military decoration in the United States. The President of the United States, in the name of the Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to... We tell stories about heroes because of a simple fact about the human mind.
Courage is contagious. And when you hear about someone doing something heroic, it makes you want to be a hero too. These days, we could use more heroes. In our first season, you'll hear stories from Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War to the Iraq War.
Well, think about what it is that makes a hero, why people put their lives in danger for others, what human beings are capable of, the true nature of sacrifice. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, without hesitation and with complete disregard for his own safety.
This show is about those heroes, what they did, what it meant, and what their stories tell us about the nature of courage and sacrifice, not just for our country, but for each other. And as we depart this hallowed hall and return to our daily lives, we pray that you would ennoble and empower us, that when called upon, we would represent the resolute fearlessness and all those who wear the stars of valor.
That's Medal of Honor, Stories of Courage, a new podcast from Pushkin Industries and iHeartMedia.
