The Yankees season is off to a brutal start. Yankees ace Garrett Cole will undergo Tommy John surgery, the team announced, ending his 2025 season before it began. Former Cy Young Award winner also dealt with an arm injury during last year's spring training. He didn't make his regular season debut until June. The Yankees rotation has been hit hard by injuries. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year winner, Luis Gil, expected to miss at least three months due to a lax spring.
On top of pitching woes, slugger Giancarlo Stanton is out indefinitely due to pain in both elbows, while infielder DJ LeMayhew is sidelined with a calf strain. Heading over to the NFL, Saquon Barkley has experienced one heck of a year. After signing with the Eagles, Barkley had a historic season, brought the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia, and has now been rewarded with a huge deal. Barkley is the highest paid running back after agreeing to a two-year extension with the Eagles, and he hopes his contract sets the stage for the running backs who come after him.
Like I said, all those young guys that's underneath me right now, when they get, when there's a time, you know, hopefully they beat it and max it out even more. That was courtesy of the Eagles. With his football future set in Philly, Barkley can now focus on his legacy. I want to be, if not the greatest running back of all time, one of the greatest running backs of all time. You know, I hope it's, I hope I'm able to do that.
In other NFL news, the Jets have agreed to a deal with former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields for two years and $30 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. Fields will now step in as the starter in New York after the Jets decided to end the Aaron Rodgers era after two seasons. And the Seahawks have had a busy couple of days. Sam Darnold has agreed to a three-year contract with Seattle, a deal worth just over $100 million, $55 million of which is guaranteed, that also according to multiple reports.
