Hello and welcome your chest. The flagship podcast was winning millions of dollars on domain names, were going to talk about it's a real thing that happened that happens every day, you know, just to know about IT. And that's why this podcasts is hard pivoting away from politics towards the buying and selling of doma names on your friend nei David pearce here. Hello.
you know what I love about that as I I genuinely think we have some real serious competition to be the flagship podcast of the domain buying industry. And this is why I love technology.
You know they .
got real state podcast out .
there sometime cyber state to what I wrote .
a big story a few years ago about like the ongoing primacy of the dot com and uh got to interview some truly fascinating and characters, people who just like bottle a bunch of T L, D, and just like screwed off to the carbon and now make millions of dollars selling domain names is the greatest.
There's we one. We should do this. We just pivot to this. yes. So if you want to front our domain or recharge business, you know that's a landing sponsorship opportunity. Two, we are going to talk about a specific domaines is very interesting. And three, the entire dot I O T L D is like vanishing, yeah, which is like a big story because of such a crypt or in the ice start of of IO names will come back to that as well.
Do you want any silly dominance?
Um you know, I went to a period where I had a however account, and that was my form of .
ford sledding. And now those the credit .
cards explored in the domain names is one away. And so good.
Yeah, there was a period I would take of maybe three or four years where every couple of months I would get an email from hover being like your domain name is about to renew. Do you want na renew IT and IT would be straight up for the domain. I completely forgotten that I aren't.
So that's all I had. I had a face. I would say I was like, I was like a shopping face.
And I boat on a, uh, and now they are slowly windows away. But I still a little a bunch of them. I bought a domain for ana to write her like a thing for her birthday.
One year was what the coolest thing I ever did. So he just has her own website that is just like a love letter I wrote to my wife one time. That's suit cool st thing I ever did. And now I paid time of the year. I guarantee you he hasn't looked out in five years.
just wasting money now up like every do you know how what? As you get older, you realized the deep lore of your friends is just that you were jerks like, if you like to look at IT with fresh as like. We were just pretty mean to each other.
Uh, we had a friend and interact pretty, had a friend. They dated as a person. This person very bright in thought the word tobacco was tobaco. And I own tobacco that com for a long time, and I couldn't make IT a thing, because ultimately the core of IT was just being mean to someone. You came like, I got this great story about tobacco, like, no years to jerk.
I think we're past the statue of limitations on that though it's time to .
IT seemed to really turn that everyone ever is like a long since but i'm just saying i'm just prefer i'm putting around that story the self awareness yes, that the heart of your friends lawry sometimes is like, oh, you are super rude when you .
are twenty five years that's I .
guess we know a lot to talk about. There's new maximes P S five pro. Uh there's upgrades to the matter standards to get a lightning around on sponsored. We should start with the obvious news in amErica today, which is that I think I know when the jeep wagon your ass is coming.
That's exactly I thought you were going. This is good.
I'm glad on the same day chair today i've gotten win. That is december. So if you're in the market for jeep's first E D, IT may may not be december.
No, it's obviously the election that happened on tuesday. It's a big deal. And i'll trump one again.
If you haven't heard when I going to draw in IT too much, we didn't drawl in the fact that I wrote an endorsement of Harris last week. We try to keep politics of this show. I have a whole other showed, went to my politics so we can do that over there.
I will say, you know, we have a big audience. I'm sure some people are very happy. I know a lot of our audiences that we're gonna cover trump t the same way we covered him the first time, which is he's going to make a bunch of decisions.
A lot of them will be tech policy decisions in this time around. We have a bunch of familiar with how he approaches tech policy, and so do the big companies, right? The big companies, their C, E, S, are all writing him.
Her graduate ory notes, jeff pazz is like, throw me a blue age and contract. Tim cook probably doesn't want twenty percent tips on the iphone iron mask, want sidelining to happen on the iphone. This is a thing that he is said that the APP store, uh, review process is central.
This is a lot of competing tech billionaire stuff in a very transactional way with a character they are familiar with. It's going to lead us to covering a lot of stories, just the terrible alone. Most of our products are not made in in states.
The idea that we can instantly impose tariff s and have that manufacturer move here seems far fetched. If you will recall, the last time this man tried to move to technology, manufacturing, united america, and we spend a lot of time pointing up buildings in wisconsin were empty. Some familiar how many weeks to think it's been at this point since google? And answer here, one of the first things happened in trump.
One, uh, was congress immediately repealed a rule that imposed privacy regulations on isp s. And then we made a character, if you recall, out of a je pie. I know who the new charter, it's gonna it's going to brand in car.
He he wants to be the head of the esc is very like in all likelihood he will be we brought to profile him in the twenty twenty election because very much was advocating for the fc C2Be in cha rge of sec tion two thi rty, which kind of make no sense. It's all gona happen again. So we're going to just cover the world as IT stands and the people in the characters are doing stuff in that world.
Sometimes that will, I think, cross over to the show many times. I care a lot about broadband deployment ment. I know where how hints to we talk about the fcc a lot on the show. It's it's all just going to happen again, bring up on the show as it's relevant. But I don't think we're gona make this a show about Donald trump's ets.
Yeah I I think I think you mentioned kind of what we've learned versus the last time we did this. And I think one big changes, we're just clear on what's real and what isn't. Um I think this is true of any political situation that like the question of what someone says and what is real are very rarely the same thing and uh, I would say it's just that the volume with trump is so much higher.
And so we've we've learned in in ways how to sort of us out what matters and what doesn't. But I think like IT or not like I chose not to become a political reporter on purpose and yet we are at at a moment in time where, like I think you could argue, the tech companies and in particular a handful of big tech companies, are going to be more central both to the running of the government itself, but also like what the that government is interested in than ever. Uh, and I mean, you look at what elon mask has been in the truth campaign already, like these things are intermingled in ways we've never been before. And I think part of what we're going to have to do is both figure out what all of that means and try to cover the ramifications for regular people, right? Because it'll get the so much of IT is yelling in political nonsense and like I think we don't this show in particular, we try really heard not to care about that uh, but like this stuff is going to matter in every other thing that we cover in new ways and then we have to figure that out.
I'll just keep giving examples to living is a useful way to talk about IT, the google and interest case where they are paying apple to be default. That case started in the first trumpet administration, but not finished in a bad administration. I am sure apple wants the new trumpet oj to drop the nh case against them.
But i'm equally sure the injuries and horwitz, which promotes what he calls the little tech agenda, in which spent a bunch of money, donal trump, once that case, to be pursued to the finish line because they would love to sideline ad cypher, helps under the iphone. There's just a lot there. I have no idea how it's going to shake out.
But just to bring IT all back around, the fact that there is this week a homos emulator on the iphone is the result of government actually, like there's just a lot of stuff that is true that the products we use and how they work and how they work together, that is related to what happens over there and which is not keep in iron IT because all of these people going to start kind of naked dly lobbying the trumpet administration and their interests aren't actually aligned. So there's just a lot of sort of inherent conflict, which law results in stories and then I think ultimately result in changes. The products we all use that we like talk about the show.
Yes, there's a little bunch other stuff and we will bring up when it's not there. I am eager to hear from everyone. We have all gone through this together before.
If you want me to just start rosing fox on every day, I can deliver. I just don't want to scream into the void for four years. So let us know.
We got email dresses. We have a voice smell blinds. We want to yell me personally, and i'll take IT we are here to serve the audience.
Um but we're going to we're going to try to figure this one out and make sure we are constructive as opposed just being noisy. That makes no sense. Yeah right.
Hard, hard pivot away from presidential politics. Tiny computers, tiny computers speaking to twenty percent terrace. The mac mini now cost five thousand dollars. But it's made by hand in your bedroom. This joke layers i'm just putting joke .
as the layers. Yeah, there's somewhere in north CarOlina. I think there either is or is not a factory.
Mark Robinson has been sentenced to manufacturing many in your bed. All right, all the max came out last week, the announce last week. We have reviews the m for mac mini, the mac with proof forth.
We have the bed to review and tony is reviewing the high end model. Uh, let's sorry, the mac mini Chris wall reveal his in love. I as I was reading his review, I do stop myself from my computer. I don't need same.
I I haven't fully soft myself yet. I still have IT in my cart but i'm not looking at the tab anymore. So i'm considering that a Victory um but I would say by the time you're listening to this, there is like an over ninety percent chance that I have book this magney. I mean, did IT IT is the thing right? IT is IT is what we hoped IT would be.
Uh and I think the one thing i've been surprised by actually is uh how much smaller IT actually is and and IT seems to like be meaningfully different in terms of like where you can put IT and how IT fits on your desk in, like the little places you can stash IT. And for something like this, which is a design to be a computer you mostly never like touch or look at or interact with, that does matter, right? I think I still don't know that that is like the most important thing, universe.
I don't think you should upgrade just to get a lightly smaller mac mini. But also everything else about IT is good. The performances, right? IT has a lot of I O i've heard a couple of people say they wish the front ports were thunderous instead of just regular the USB c, the backwards are thunderous. Uh, but fine, like this thing is six hundred dollars. And I think in a time when apple products are are getting, I would say, uh, more expensive at dubious additional value, this one is like a just in on a bashed Victory playing crisis .
line is this is easily the best value in the entire mac line up now. And that's probably true in the thing that really semenoff for me is the base model. The six hundred hundred one has sixteen gigs of rain, which has kept me from buying a mac for quite some time.
You I go into the configuration or look at eight egg that default, I go add the rain to get to sixteen gates. And like, this is so expensive, this is the most expensive RAM in history. I'm not buying this dung computer.
And which is still true, by the way, every, every one of the upgrades on all of these new mac books and max is lake luna. Like I I know what these things costs. You're trying to charge me two hundred box for a little more .
storage like you have a Chris has a review. You can buy two base model mac minis for a dollar less than .
the upgraded. That's so stupid.
Yes, you can buy two base model mac mines with sixteen giggs of RAM in two hundred fifty six gig asses for the Price to cost. Upgrade a single mac mini to thirty two gigs of RAM in five hundred twelve giggs of storage.
It's actually dollar or less. That's just that's stupid. But again, to your point, the good news is and I think this is true of both the mac mini and the new mac pro, which we should also talk about, is that the base model is excEllent.
And I think apple, apple for years has given new base models that are like almost there. But the you you always kind of want one step up from the base model of almost every apple product. The thing they try to sell you is the one level up either IT was like the ipad that only had sixty four gigs of storage, or this one that had eight gigs of him, which is a perfectly fine amount of ym.
not how how you unleashed the power of apple intelligence with only eight gigs of him.
My friend, a very few things have made me feel more vindicated than everybody getting access to apple tiler. But but this time, these are the right models for most people. The base model is the one that most people should buy. And I think that's very much to apple's credit that like IT just built the computer people should have and if you just click buy and don't check any other rocks es, you're going to get an excEllent .
computer yeah and what's also great is a bunch of the outgoing computer is like the m two airs and m three airs are being sold out in sixteen gig base configurations for the same Price, which again, I think is because apple just wants apple intelligence, but is also proof that that extra gigs RAM did never cost .
them anything, right? But IT is I I actually think I mean, we for a couple of years, I think had a long debate about when the m one came out, right, the m one macbook and I was like an obvious giant upgrade from the previous ones. And then the m two came out.
We were kind like what maybe the Better by is actually and one air, which is getting cheaper because the m two is out and and the performance increase isn't necessarily there. And I think that question might be complicated, right? Like is the is the increase from the m two or the m three to the m four super meaningful? I think the increase from eight gives to sixteen is meaningful. Yeah, again, IT gives us fine for me. Unpeople .
superman, the arg, by the way, I know I just to lay that i'm aware of the argument. The David is too embarrass to make, but that some of you put the youtube comments, but the disk is so fast that going to swap doesn't really matter if you vacates of them. I am aware of the argument. Apple exactly have looked to me in the eye and made the argument and i'm just told you that it's still market oh yes.
i'm sitting here on an m one mac mini with eight egg A M and I can tell you that that argument is not true and yet eight egg RAM is basically fine. Uh, just close some tabs, you'll be fine. Uh but anyway, going to sixteen as the base is really important.
And I actually like eager to now go get my hands on one of the m tus with sixteen gigs a couple of years in and see because we're going to end up with like you know, there's the walmart version of IT that is deliberately substantially cheaper and kind of the like entry level map of care when that thing has like an m two and sixteen giggs of RAM that is going to be a very, very compelling computer for a lot of people. And I just think like again, if you want one of these bees ly machines, that's gona last you forever. Like I feel very good about both the air, about both the new pro and the new mini. But especially as we get to this sixteen gig of RAM baseline, even a couple of generation old is going to start to ask a really, really long time.
Yeah, I am. Well, first of all, the m one air, the walmart til m one air is not under six forty nine. And IT still says built for apple intelligence.
And I just have to for as little as apple intelligence does. It's not going to go great. My computer, no.
I would not buy that if you want an A I machine. But given a minute, and that thing will be six hundred and forty nine dollars and IT will be an m two, and IT will have sixteen years, right when we get to there, that gets really exciting.
Becky has an intel mac. Richard rose golden one and is dying. And I told her today to buy an m three air sixteen giggs RAM for a just about a thousand knowledge is a little over thousand knowledge and this is the best buy in computing right now. I think you don't need an m for for this stuff for doing um in this computer and last forever or sixteen goes around. So it's true that of in this sort of macbook area zone, picking the chip is part of not as important as A M. And the fact sixteen gigging is becoming more prevalent all their spots is really good yeah for the mac mini, this is like you'd just pushed the button, you don't and this is why i've been circular to buying one all day because they've reduced to the pain of like going into the configure or and adding more money to the base Price. Genius IT also is proved that that extra RAM customer.
oh yeah, that was always just pure naked money grabbing from apple. The the one financial question .
I am .
dealing with as I go through this is do I spend the extra two hundred dollars to get the touch I D keyboard? Because I am i'm sitting here, have a largest tekel board that I really like. I have a uh largest tech mouse that I really like, that I will never give up because the magic nosis an awful piece of hard rather no uh touch ID is awesome and goes a very long way and especially if you're never onna turn the thing off because the power but and is on the bottle, which did not bother Chris, watch at all. It's like the touch I D you think with the mac mini goes really long way.
Do you have an apple watch?
I do.
So I am locked my macc with my apple watch. I ve never even thought about.
I like that. I think I have that set up with my phone, but I .
don't like. I never, never. And you want to buy stuff and I far anyway. Yeah, no, it's really.
it's purely a log. Anything right? This is good. You've solved this for me. Keep my, I keep my computer.
Thank you. Yeah, uh, we start with a macbook pro and IT seems intern review this one for us. IT does seem like a plus finally created some differentiation for the base model macbook pro.
You've added the correct ports that has more performance than the air. It's no longer this weird, tina. Where was like the base model pro is just for people who don't want to mack with air. Now it's like, h, this is a meaningfully good computer. And then if you want to go up from there.
you can continue to go up from there. Yeah again, it's back. It's back to the thing of like apple always wanted you to buy one above the base.
And actually that was even more true on the so then others which like weirdly, they were caught in between the the base pro had a touch bar for like way too long and finally, IT seems like digits start to scrap the whole thing and we're like the pro line now makes sense in order all the way up uh and again, that the base now starts at, I think fifteen ninety nine yeah clear upgrade from the air in terms of Price but also in terms of like what you get performance wise and all. That's a barry right now. You've been a pro guide forever, right? Like i'm i'm an area guy and to me, this does not make me want to pro anymore. And I suspect for you this is like this is exactly the pro that i'm looking for and I feel like good for apple for mostly getting that right.
Yeah, I think I think that's correct. I mean, I I am a fifteen inch. I guess now it's sixteen inch h life. Top person always have been so they know that he needed computer as like, you should just get new macro are and IT never acco ss, my mind to say, oh, you should turn a little bit more money on the pro.
Where is before that was always I get like it's a little bit more money that was like IT sort of thirty before told him on sale and he was like slightly Better and the screener s look Better and the performance is basically the same, like they really did. I think for one minute, the m one pro and the m one air, the difference was the pro had a fan, so IT didn't throat as hard. And that was the entire performance difference in these computers.
yes. And so they were just like smooth together. Now I think apple has enough m serious chips in enough configurations and enough display configuration ation to meaningfully differentiate the products.
And so if you eventually will be IT is certain for there's no time for year I right? So you know eventually they'll be an end for air, but then i'll put IT in five in the product. And like now, they just have enough products like at every level of the computer to actually pull them apart in create differentiation.
And I think that m for pro, if you're you know a coalition is interested editing video, really doing photos like this thing is a meaningful improvement over the area that breaking the back yeah do you need a nanostructures great. But um but I I think it's actually interesting to see apple right when this company is defined by the mastery of the supply chain. They're using their supply chain mystery to actually create reasonable gaps between their products in the way I don't think could quite get to before.
agree. And also IT IT makes the whole line up easier to explain, right? Like I feel like on the one hand, you now have the the air in the mini, which exists kind of on the like regular person computer side, and then you have the studio and the pro as the sort of obvious upgrades or know the meaning in the studio are closer to each other, the city, but the studio get up great and like you get what they're going for.
And then the the studio on the power, like for people who mostly need these for professional reasons, and they have some upgrades. Deco with, you know, more reports, more power like all that's up. And then the mac pro, just like exists off on the site, but that there is now a sort of consumer desktop and a consumer laptop and a professional desktop and a professional laptop has not been the case with apple's max in a very long time. And this is this is like the cleanest this line up has felt to me in a very long time.
Right in there is the imac, the dust up for receptionists?
Yeah, we basically don't talk about the imac anymore. The imac is if you wanted a imac by imac, it's the ipad mini of max.
I pilots are walking on the plan. Actually, I really going to a take apart my old, I display and make create the time for, like no one in my family is like, here's what are going to do. We're going to give you a full afternoon to disassemble a ten year old computer internet.
I was. We got a lot of people after we talked about this, what last week, uh, saying they have the same problem. There are a lot of people out there sitting with like functionally useless M X that are still big, beautiful display. That you just kind of stare edit, like why can't I use you? And so I think if we can solve this for people, this is yet another side business that we're going to start where we're just going to fix computers.
We're going to call the I fix IT folks. We're good friends of them and we're we're going to figure out a way to do this as a community. And that means David is going to drive a van around the country fixing here.
I ternate IT IT. It's going to be great. Yeah, I mean, to it's a new sponsorship opportunity. If you thought the lighting round was exclusive, David's imac repair van sponsor.
the imac van.
It's going to be incredible. Uh, a little bit of gay. We talk about the kindle core soft. Yeah, that's IT that mean that's that's kind of the whole story.
Yeah, tough, tough, tough. Beat for amazon, which came out with this whole lining up of new kindle, including the colors of the first color. Kindle a bunch.
People are like amazon. Why IT takes so long to do color. Cobo and books and others have been doing color for a while.
And amazon palace, they came on this show and said basically in as many words because IT took us this long to get IT right. This is we did IT, everybody else did bad color and we did good color. Uh, and then a bunch of people started getting color ofs and IT.
Turns out they have this weird like fade yellow band at the bottom. And there are there are a bunch of reasons i've seen for why this might happen there. There are some speculation that it's it's A U I thing that just doesn't fade properly when you switch out of like the library view into a book.
IT just doesn't pull that color off the screen. Amazon seems to have a kind of freak out t at this. Like if you look at the kindle color soft pay right now, the reviews are really bad.
There's a ton of them. People hate this thing. And there have also been a couple of other issues like I was supposed to ship with the dark mode and then amazon just didn't ship IT with the dark mode.
Uh, that was like a feature that was advertised that just doesn't exist on this thing and they had to delay shipping. Like this thing has actually turned into kind of a mess in a way that for amazon, which has basically like ruthlessly executed on slight improvements to the kindle for fifteen years, is very strange. Uh, and it's super wear because i'm sitting here with like the newspaper, which I love to bits like that. That thing is it's excEllent. IT is everything you would want like a super simple kindle to be and the colors of cannot just looks like a swing and a miss.
Yeah but I mean, the paper White is an incremental improvement, right? They made the patron speed a lot faster. Yeah, but it's the same product.
And this point you're making on amazon relentlessly improving the same tiny rations. I mean, people buy them and they just expect them to work. Like you expect ninety nine point nine percent similar functionality out of any campo percent yeah.
Like I aspect.
I do want anyone. And SHE literally SHE looked to be dead in the eye. SHE reads her kindle every night. He would be dead in the eye and said, stop buying the kindle is the only get that I can buy everything else and you just like, stop IT like i'm good, I will let you know when this one catches fire.
And that was the end of that conversion. And I think like that the the newspaper in is that, but slightly Better on a bunch of which is does something extent like it's what Becky, in what a lot of people want from a paper way, right? Like go faster. When I press the thing to change .
the very color is the big change. It's the of the new thing. You have to get that .
right yeah and especially you're going to come out and be like, oh, we took a long time to do this. We think we've gotten IT right there.
Also, you're in our dr. M jail so you are only eat when we feed you.
Yeah, yeah. It's it's a tough look. And I think, uh, it's going to be really interesting. There's this new scribed coming out in a few weeks with a bunch of like flashy AI stuff like they they pitched this as the biggest river to the kindle line ever.
Yes, I was here. I set him free.
yeah. And if if you, if your big first swing goes like this, that is tough. Why is manufacturing .
error step on? They haven't theyve essentially .
just acknowledge that that is a real problem. Our review unit has one, Andrew. The F P has been using IT and has seen the yellow bar. Uh his sense so far seems to be that IT is uh worse in photos than in real life but IT is still very much real and there uh and ais on his acknowledge to lots of people.
And according to people on reddit which take with the Green salt, amazon has actually been calling people who have had who have left bad reviews and bought the thing to see what's going on. Like you get the sense the company is scrambling, uh, that this has been a such a big problem. But amazon has acknowledge that this is a real thing and is an issue and that they are trying to fix that.
Is that a harder issue or a software?
Asa unclear?
Wa, yeah.
it's a bad luck. I mean, right now, i'm just gonna going to open i'm going to open the kindle colour soft cage, uh, and i'm just going to like the reviews are truly, truly, truly brutal in a way that like the kindle is every everybody is like, it's a kindle. I like my kindle, uh, the color soft, which I would remind us two hundred and eighty dollars, way more expensive currently at two point six stars on amazon. Oh.
that is a hard problem. IT is we have a cup. The company is making adjustments to the new devices, will not have a yellow band, people who are the only unit can contact amazon for a refund or replacement in the same in from an amazon spoke first into us. We take quality of products seriously. Customers you notice their ban can reach out to customer service team for a place on our refund.
Could be either way, maybe hardware, maybe hunus, but yeah, amazon claims there's a fix. So we'll see right now you also can only get delivery. I'm seeing delivery for two weeks from now, uh, which is a thing that has started showing up. But amazon seems to have like frozen shipping on this, what they try to fix IT.
I feel so bad from there is such a struggling company was a little money.
I know, awful ful. Hopefully, hopefully they get IT together. Roll ups start ebook company, hope taking, get IT together.
It's funny because this was is really was the first link revitalized and is on hardware here. Go here.
And there was so much enthusiasm for IT like I I I was actually really surprised at how excited people are about the color soft because on the one hand, it's not the giant sort of leap in functionality for most people is just like now your boot covers are in color, but a for people who like Carry these things around and have them sitting on their night table like that alone is meaningful.
But also, I heard from a lot of like comic book fans and people who live graphic novels and people who like this actually changes the kind of thing I can do on this voice. And uh, again, it's it's eighty or ninety dollars more than the paper way like it's not a small choice to buy this thing instead of a different kindle. Uh, and I just I feel for all the people who have just like thought this was the thing they've been waiting for and IT turned out IT wasn't.
Why you stick with the book's palm. I I have .
a palma too, right here. What you think can I just quickly preview my paleo review for you? Ah I picked IT up to do some testing and play with IT and do some reviews and an hour later realized I had picked up the original one and said very, yes, that's where we are.
That's very good. Uh, well, I picked up my books for one of one and then put IT down and then never picked up again. So i'm doing great.
Uh, we got to take a break. Will be back with shown to host the talk of the P. S. five. Will we be back?
Support for the verge cast comes from bati come shadow, available only a media st. Three and three s remember your first time playing the ark franchise? The feeling of power getting to beat up on the bad guys as batman?

We're back shown all service here.
Welcome shown.
Hi, it's the voice. The voice of a new generation has returned once again to the request. I'm almost forty.
Shining is was to admit this. I don't know this. This goes on youtube. Have to say eighteen years old and you can .
read it's good because because look at my, look at my completion, it's just fine.
I have a lot of additional youtube jokes to tell him to time. If you sponsor living round, I will call you personally until you the drug says, let's tell they're not .
they went about strong. They're about youtube. That's the worst argument you've ever made for sponsor in the same round.
No one is gonna. So now we're we still will not know how to accept the money. We're going to figure that one day, but not today.
All right, shan, here here, because you reveal the P, S, 5 pro, which to review the embargo of which was the day after election day. So while everyone else are glued to the screens, washing counts go up. Sean, I believe you are just moving back from your television.
One insured a time to see when you could stop telling that the P. S. Five pro had increased resolution in bloodborne.
I want to tell you that you're in crack, but that was literally exactly what I was to think. I was walking up really close to my TV to see all the glorious pixels at that continually locking backwards, until I could see the different city before, between a four year old playstation and a brand new playstation.
I love this. This is what we do here. First, tell people the P. S, 5 pro is, and then explain why you are doing exactly that.
okay? The P S five pro is SONY y's new game council, which is basically A P S five with bard storage, a little more library and a substantially faster GPU. The GPU itself, sixty two percent faster by Terry flops.
You get rendering performance increases of like forty five percent. So it's not quite enough to take your games look like they weren't fork before to suddenly they are fork. Except there's also a upscale I got bored because, of course, everything as a IT now.
And so with that, you can theoretically get a best of both world's experience where if previously your P S five game was running a get four k, but i'll leave thirty five years per second now you can run a to smooth sixty. Or if your game was previously a lower resolution at sixty five per second, you can now get higher resolution in more detail at the sixty phrase per second. And so you put your existing gaps in this.
And if they've been patched to appears five prod heads, then but certain they look Better, they runs smoother and that's great, right? It's P. S. Five, but Better also seven hundred dollars.
That's a lot of dollars. IT just have a little like rib on the side.
IT does look nice. Yeah, it's got like a little racing stripy thing. I, I, I ended that, but we shut.
This is the thing I ve been trying to figured about. The PS58IT feels like there there could be three different kinds of games for this。 One is like game that is not aware of the existence of the P S 5 pro。 It's just a game. P S, four games, five game. The other one is like a game that already existed, that has been like a created in some way to be ready for this.
And then there are like theoretically, games made with the P S 5 pro in mind。 Do all three of those things exist in the P S 5 pro world? Like if I put in a game that just does not care about the P S 5 pro at all, is he going to look Better?
In many cases, IT won't look Better if he doesn't know that you've got APS5 pro in there。 But there are so many edge cases here. This is a very difficult refute or right.
Okay, so start off with with the obviously there new games that are only for the P S. five. But will there there be exclusive gaps that all they run on? This probably not SONY is not said anything to suggest that, that will happen.
They will probably save those for the P S. Six whenever that comes out. And even those theoretically, maybe we'll let those run on A P S five and A P5 pro as well。
You could theodicy now have to be in a place where games are like pcs. You get a new playstation, they look a little Better. You play about the old playstation, they look worse.
It's all x, eighty six hundred. The hood. Now it's possible.
L, A, F, D, chips. I do the hood now. It's possible has only actually done that, not quite. They would, of course, like you to buy games again and again and buy the updates for those games self. To some degree, that s not happening.
I mean, there are barely even P, S, five only games, right? I mean, i'm i'm looking at the list of P S five only games, and this is just not that many. There aren't P S five only games.
but there are a lot of P S five only versions of games. So you put the p like you are getting a different than Better experience in the PS four version, absolutely one hundred percent like that is a much bigger difference also then the difference between P S five and PS five pro. okay.
So the second question is up. You've got you're no exclusives, no exclusives for this, but then you do have games that do not necessarily need the patches. They don't necessarily need to develop her put in the extra leg work to make a game run Better because some P S, five games have an unlocked frame rate.
Now most of the time you're like a council experience, it's gonna be a smooth sixty or it's going to be a smooth 3 fps。 The developers decided we're going to lock IT there. So you don't have up and down in terms of the performance. You you get a reliable frame right up.
But because there's so much difference in power between p four and P S four pro and P S five and now P S five pro, some developers like, well, no, if we leave our games in this PC like state where he just throw more performance, that that we'll be Better. There are handful games like the digital foundry test, you know several pump to twenty seventy seven and it's like, oh, okay, that works. But there's this other ring colled here, which is that if you have a TV with a variable refresh rate on IT, specially one that can go all the way up to hundred and twenty hurts.
You put a game on this with that unlocked frame, right? And now your game that was only running thirty frames per second could run forty or forty seven or something like that. If you played this exact same game on A T V with a locked number of hurts, locked refresh rate, you're only getting the thirty or the sixty if you can't hit the sixty year at thirty, you know. So we're in that place where if you have the best TV and you have an unlocked frame right game, then you don't need A P S, 5 pro enhanced patch to get some excEllent enhancements out of IT time。 Now you going to .
want these patches is the market for what you just described. The eleven people? I don't know. I'm not i'm not a guy with a variable refresh T, V. But like.
but that's your fault. That's a personal fAiling a day scrieck.
Nobody should buy this unless they have a sixty five inch variable refresh rate. H, D, R, probably olid. T, V, that they sit, at least that no more than eight feet away from, you know, they are sitting close to this cream, preferably like five feet, maybe three.
Three would be good. Um I have a good front of a thirty to h four k monitor that that OLED monitors beautiful alien where monitor. And I like the P S 5 pro a lot on this screen。 So but that .
that's actually, I think, a good point because you make the same point in the review, which is that you basically financial of using IT like a gaming PC. This is not like a prop IT in the T, V. Entertainment center. Sit back on the couch and game kind of thing. This is like, sit three inches from the screen until your eyes bleed kind of quality.
The same argument we had about the steam deck. I mean, people love the idea of a gaming PC, but they don't want all of that hassle. And the steam deck is, like, here is so much less hassle.
Take IT with you. IT just works for the best party. And those running linux under the hood, these windows game just work, just started up.
We guarantee that these ones will work, does not always guardie them properly. P S 8 pro, plug that in the your desk top monitor, pick up your dull since controller, amazing controller. And these games just work, and they look beautiful, right?
This is why I bring this up, because I think if you look at IT that way, you're no longer competing against a much cheaper, almost as good P. S. five. You're competing against a way more expensive, way more friendly, way more complicated gaming PC.
Wait, so short, you've mention this in their view. You said this is like the power of a mid range gaming PC, right? And somewhere in there is that so much more complicated and expensive .
a mid range gaming peace .
city to run windows exact?
That's really that's really that and and and imports. I mean, SONY has ported a lot of good games to gaming cases. Now it's Victorious.
Port studios like nixes have done this, and some of them are great, and some of them are really, really not great. I booted up the last of us part one on both my psi pro and my gaming P. C.
And trust me, the gaming PC has more under the hood, the graphic card in there, you going to get more framework, more textures. I proved that out by plane I went wait to. But with last of us part one, IT is not a good port on PC.
That little girl's hair in the beginning of the game, IT looks like medusa, like ten ticks on my PC because there is some kind of buck. SHE is also a empire, apparently because there is. He has no reflection in any of the mors on PC on the P.
S. 8 pro the mares showed the entire world, including her also, IT took like a minute to load the game fully on a listener. Me, maybe thirty seconds to load the game on p5 pro, I spent fifteen minutes compile initiators for the game on PC, after which point is still in the word properly.
So is IT worth IT? Look, I have A P S. five.
I play one game on IT. I, I throw interceptions in that. And I do that for about and .
night under frame T, V, which is .
important to say seventy R, R. No one in my house enjoy this when I do this. There's a lot of work in TV, but this isn't a game.
I doubt there are the thing. They are a more and advertising to. There were dart on the updates this game. Is this worthy for me? This IT feels like ignored at all.
worth IT to me. No, no.
Wait for P. S. A max place. Asta bot, my six plays the hell out of astra, which is the best game in the world. And the astronaut dual sense controller is actually the light for because the light around the touch pad glows in different colors. When we play the game, the whole things in the light.
we played the hell to extra bot. I did not notice a difference.
Are there games that you feel like it's worth IT? Like is, is there a game that it's like if I play this game for hours a day, this up creators, is that meaningful? All on IT, you would have to .
be an uber fan and IT might need to be something competitive. And this is one place I I didn't get to try like call of duty on this with like in like intensive multiply. I don't even know there is like a fast refreshment mode, but let's imagine for a moment you have like imagine color duty or or or really competitive fighting game comes up with an one hundred and twenty hurts mode.
And all of a sudden this is like the best way to play outside of the PC because you actually have lowered latency from from your inputs into the thing. Or if they also like to use a mouse and keyboard, maybe that's what they need to do. If they take this thing, they're like, IT is your gaming PC. Every game you throat little bit Better because we are issuing a Mandate that every developer has have unlocked frame rate and resolution and graphic setting options on all of their games. And we're going to let you plug a mouse keyboard into IT basically is a PC except that they're really cool and quiet .
and small like I was a dream of the PC for years. You're describing the world's wild surface. R T.
If you're a final fantasy seven uber fan and like all you wanted for your entire existence since nineteen ninety seven or whatever IT was was to see final fantasy y seven turned into a you come to life around you, this still isn't that because it's not VR. But but IT looks Better than P, S. Five for that. It's pretty much on P. S.
Five in the sixty hts mode. Yeah, I do like the idea that this is a weird incursion into gaming PC world. IT makes IT make more sense to me. Where's when there's A P, S four or the p four pro came out a little bit later? There was just obvious reasons that I would I want to upgrade my console at that time because that would got you 4k back then。
Did you update David? I only got A P S four pro. Um I still have A P S four pro.
I bought that just because I was like there was like a black friday I sale. So I ended up with IT. Uh but again, I I played that on a ten A D P.
Computer monitor for a very long time. Do you have eyes? I say these things primarily just to a piece of me like this is its great. So I asked.
because all this means all of us are P, S, were private. All of us bought into this last, jen, when the pitch was like, now you get HDR and now you get like four k which is like .
this for four, five, right .
checkerboard rendering. But like, but the thing about, the thing about that, you have to be a certain feet, amount number of feet away from your PS five, like not see the difference. You have to be with A A V to see the to really see the difference with p5 pro that worked in the favor of the P S four pro because at the distance you were away from the screen, you could tell that IT was forky, but you could not tell that IT was contrive to check your board rendering. At least I couldn't.
Maybe you could know. I could not. But I, but I, this is not my, as everyone knows, a valuing video games is not the thing that I do because I play two of them and i'm horrible at one of them so I don't take my word for but yeah, I agree with you, brother, that the P.
S, four pro made sense to me because I got me the two features I wanted to use on my TV, right? I want all the light TV to be let up is a nose. And so got me the fork, and I got me the H. T. R. And that was great. This one is like, whatever, it's more pixel like, I always play a higher resolution mode versus higher performance mode because I that's a traiter off of willing to make and i'm not willing to make this straight off the idea that the P S 5 pro is actually meant to go up against a mid range gaming PC and be simpler and pastor and have a Better library, more optimize games. I like kind of reconstruction izz whole .
product agree and makes IT way more like seven hundred dollar ars seems a lot less uh, wildly expensive.
Is that how Sonia is talking about IT?
No.
absolutely yy. They should start. Um um that's really for anything we miss shown anything that looks to be apart from that. How's the weird tactic destroying the detachment?
okay. So IT dos IT does not come with a as drive, which is like how do you call IT the pro when IT doesn't have this seats? Or how do you how do you release this console? Two, an audience of nitpickers who are going to care about those graphics and that frame, right? But you think they magically don't care about about physical media like, yeah, people care about physical media if their net pickers. And so I did have to special order on thing. So .
s yeah.
I went. I looked the game step best by, I looked at SONY side. I looked a bunch of places.
Eventually found one of walmart, not a close walmart. But I I did order IT got to me next day. So good.
Good for you, walmart. And I guess i'll scale now. No, i'm not going to scale.
You know.
they could. I really could. They are hotly in demand, so did not make enough of these things. But but yeah IT clips on really usually once it's on there, IT looks like an original P S five.
Uh and it's and it's it's smaller, you know it's it's and it's and it's fairly quiet and not that warm like i'm using it's under the desk right now using as a fat warmer while we do this. It's it's currently ray tracing Helen wake to and dies. It's enough to warm up my feeds a little bit, but it's not their nexium tosi. And I would say it's .
this is why we're measuring heat and firm holds on every product from now on. Like did IT make my feet super tosti under the desk is very good. It's quieter .
that the original steam deck is the steggles steep at a really noisy fair. This is quiet.
Have they added doby vision to the P. S. Five yet? If you want to play plays on IT, I want to have all the sexual prosing power, and I just want to livia support. And then I would buy a new p five pro with this deserve.
and I would use this play player. I bought the same sung at T, V. This time, so I don't have vision. Oh god.
sorry. Can everyone just check in with me? Just send me now, and I will help you out and doing my best time here.
I have a forty two inch P. C. Ious TCL i'm looking at. Can you give me a once over?
I walked into a new neighbors today and he showed me the T. V about the mental and he goes, it's not it's like a different kind of frame TV. Like I I have to get out of this yeah IT because there's a bunch of competence of frame TV now like I got to go get just I know you well enough to react to what you just said to me the way that I want to and I don't have control over my emotions so I have .
to just leave.
That's good. Other gaming news, IT seems like everyone keeps expecting in tando to actually announce, uh, what should be called the superintendent switch hint but instead you've announced in alarm clock and then believe there was on election night announced that the fourth coming switch successor to backgrounds capable.
you forgot one. There was also the music APP, which was there was twenty four hours of excitement of people being like, oh my god, I keep hearing there's an intended thing happening. This is going to be, I am in slack with your web shopping like we have to have a plan. This is the biggest and .
they ask the music at had this league that he was going to be the switch that explore. And under a webster he was like, a my heart can take IT he are going that her he was so ready to write about the switch to. And then the next morning the league guy was like, I just got used by intendo so hard.
he is my favorite. I have come all the way around. I hope nintendo does this for five more years. Just don't don't ever launch the new switch, just keep doing silly. But there was also a museum launch in there somewhere. Andrew got an invite to go to japan and IT was about a museum, not the switch to like it's so funny.
This is you think I know that everything expected the switch to so every other team in intendo o is like what's do our announcement for sure?
Have to know. And this is now the funniest bit from attack company in a very long time. And I love you so much. But this week we got actual switch news, not the switch news we were expecting, but actual, real switch news.
But IT was this was an an answer this like this was going to breathing ing like buried information .
I dicit was like a financial briefing and and then intended was like, I guess no, nobody noticed. So will tweet IT now.
And they did on election night in the middle, literally are sitting on my couch talking to people during election night where were tracking the returns as they come in. And somebody disrupt this tweet and flag and is like, did they just announce backwards compatibility for switch case?
right? Can I read this tweet as very chesler? Or know I like explaining how the journalism sausages made.
And this one is particularly good because at eight twenty six pm, on to member fifty, the intent do account. Just tweet. This is for a cola, which is the president intendo on to our four color. But I just says, this is four color.
No other names must are all my weeks like that from now on.
Doesn't how say I am the president in the time or just this .
is for a color so very good .
you know who IT is? What time is IT? Uh, today's corporate manager policy briefing, we announced the intended switch software we playable and necessary intendo switch.
What is the corporate managing? They had an outside that's that's what i'm taking away from. This had an outside and they distributed some employers and they like, shit, this is going to league for work out, get on the horn.
It's either that are like an internal company newsletter that like only goes to the accounting department and they're like A I hit all staff instead of accounting, I guess share everybody.
Now it's very good. I from now on, i'm signing every tweet from the verge counts. This is for tell. It's very good.
IT is good. But wait shot, if I if I understand the news correctly, basically what they announced is that whatever is coming after the switch, we will be able to play switch games, which is a big and somewhat unusual deal, for instance, that I basically.
let's talk about the impact of this robot. This could be one of two things to go. Let's go optimistic first.
Then intended switch, the original two thousand intended switch launch with like twelve games, all of which we're basically like elda and everything else we had a headline on the verge and intend to switch launched games lineup is disappointing and needlessly confusing. That is where the switch began before he became the drug or not. That IT is today, which has one of the biggest libraries of any console ever released.
IT is amazing. And so that switch to having that lineup on day one would be phenomenal. The thing is, we don't know if this means you will have a cartage spot or not.
So if he doesn't take the switch carriages, then you're gonna a have to open these games digitally by them again, or whatever you have to do there. And then now we're back in the P S. Five pro.
Why don't they think we like physical media space? I don't know what IT is. They didn't say, I mean.
I met, I buy the game is usually because i'm lazy, right? Like the astronaut is available. I'm just gonna download IT.
I started doing that like she's mentioned. I got echoes of wisdom digitally, but I have so many countries.
The blue game is on the switch at our house because no one was let me drive to the story was like here. Now we're doing this, right? So I think more regular consumers have these like hybrid libraries, and I think it's important for them said keep you use in climate because once the digital, which is there, right? I mean, there's a million in dung around. There's a million other problems of this, including preserved and emulation, which we will talk about this second. But I think from just a pure convenience or your library, the hero, through your new switch, I think IT starting become an expectation, just like ABS ent iphone, or expectation like I bought all this stuff and I get the new device and just gonna here.
I want that so much and I wanted to be portable and preservation. And it's nice. And it's nice one to fire up your P.
S. Five pro. And you're like all these P. S. Five games there and all your peace, four games that you bought you to the library.
But it's what's extra ice when you can take all those disks that on your shelf that also stick them in there? Went up both hopeful ly, both. I mean.
it's santen do they're going to do some weird stuff that you know it's true no matter what .
here is historically speaking, nintendo has cannot gone on both sides of this, right? Like I remember that the V U played most or at least some wee games but then like you're dying at pete break to the switch um like yeah just and like you know you got all way back and like the end sixty four was very much its own thing. It's not like those giant cartridge went on to the next thing. So I guess IT IT would be hard to uh, put odds against what IT seems like no one might actually do here.
Yeah like the portables, it's been pretty good in the portable space. Like if you bought a unintended D, S, light, you could play D, S, games on that. You could also play game boy advance games on that, which was basically an entirely different system.
You couldn't put original game boy cartridge and arrow game boy color cartridge, but you go back to generation before that, the game boy s you put by advances game boy color games, original game boy games into all. You go to the d si, all the sudden you've got just dsa in D S. You don't get game boy anymore.
So they kind of like they try to do like one to two generations, usually a backwards. And then occasionally like you say what this and sixty four there are, just we're done but even like the game cube, you could stick a game boy player on to the bottom of that and sticker cartage. So maybe we'll be some off beats dash.
the most nintendo possible outcome here where they're like we here's the thing, but will also see you this weird ARM attachment that lets you play all of your other games.
It's made of the intended robot for the nest. This just made me think about the original intended robot. No, they have been a robot and pushed the button on the IT was, look IT up IT was, yeah, I was ridiculous and I IT was, I wanted one so bad and I finally got one IT was so dish like, so d disappoint.
We are talking about emulation, talking on the stuff song. We should end by talking about your story. Um you thought about ten to going after youtube ers who are streaming games statement game preservation. There's a lot of action in this front lately and that's all right next to I know coming you like amer deck, which you're just selling more work regulators free and clear amazon with apparently no repercussions. Talk about this story and let's talk about that bigger picture.
What is going on to intendo? I need to winnow. yes. So nintendo and I written one story, but these there's more in the works.
I think nintendo u seems to have decided to wants to make an example out of one particular youtube r and IT may be targeting others as well that we think there may be a copyright troll on the loose. That's what a future stories is gonna get into. Um but this is one guy is named rush candle.
He runs a youtube channel called retroactive me core. And the weird thing about intendo targeting him is that he is known for advocating against pacy. He shows up all kinds of like genuine switch cartridge in his videos to show you that he's not just like ripping games off the internet, although that maybe doesn't that on the side.
But he wants you to know that you can do this somewhat legally or so. He says, up by making your own backup PS of your games, putting them on to flash cards, if you want to, and then taking around your entire libraries, which games with you, that you have a genuine garages. This is possible now through a particular device, then intendo really does not want the world to know about. And so in a um in a new example of the styles and effect, they decided to target this guy.
He is not somebody you would necessarily want to target if you intended though, because he's a very interesting and likable person I would say who has who has a audience ah that understands him as an educator who like teaches them how to use things rather than boasting about how pirate stuff he also happens to be a new york tenant by selling cookbook offer for a twenty two veteran of the U. S. navy. And all kinds of these things you you can read about my whole .
story yeah it's a good story but IT does seem like if you're nintendo and you want to go like full scorched earth on this kind of thing on the internet like you can, you can use copyright to pick that fight. But that doesn't see like what intendo is doing here.
IT has instead picked a small series of very specific states uh with a couple of emulators and now with this one, youtube r it's not like the stories refer over the years about you know companies that just go and issue mass copyright strikes for everyone using photo of any of their stuff, which is the thing that has happened a few times on youtube over the years. That's what intend IT is doing here. And I it's hard for me to figure out what IT is doing.
I want to to say that the common theme here is nintendo is just ridiculous ously less tolerant of people cutting into its current gene console profits. You want to talk about old games, you want to talk about you want, you want to put show off emulators with game boy games, or S N S games, or sixty four games. You want to build mulatto for those things.
And intend is generally gonna leave you alone. But once I started, once we started seeing not only when intendo switch emulators and intendo switch games all over youtube playing on intent to switch emulators, but the very latest games, the Zelda that's going to come out this week or just has come out this week here, IT is running in, you know, at a high resolution on a PC. Look how much Better IT looks, then looks on the actual switch hardware.
Maybe you should be playing IT here on A P. C. instead. Or maybe you should take your whole library, which games, and play the mona steam deck, which is not only looks Better than that does on the switch, but is portable like an intended switch.
Is the steam deck Better than an intended switch? Wouldn't want people to walk away with that idea in their heads. This is where intend to started stepping in. And so we saw a while back um before before before I thought against the user and real drinks the two big switch emulate before IT did that.
There was a while, I want to say maybe about a year ago where a bunch of folks showing off switch games on steam deck started getting little notices from in the intent. Maybe they might not want to do that. And some of the some of the folks who were no the youtube ers who were more, I wanted to stay on intendant's good Grace, that just when he had been voluntarily started making some, those disappeared.
But they told other creators in their sphere, m intend did this thing to me. And word got around that this was happening. I think lin tech tips did a video at one point where they were like, we're going to call out this trend.
And here we're not going to borrow out all of our footage of switch games. We're going to be like, look, we can do in tea. You're going to go out, right? And I don't think they did, but after that, kept on a pace on youtube, we kept in more and more.
Here I am. You like your switch games on steam deck intend. I went after the emulators the software that's making all of that possible and use IT was the biggest stimulator.
Um and there were whispers in the community that they were testing their emulator on games that had leaked out early games that we're not even out yet a new a new sila tears of the kingdom. Allegedly they had IT and we're making sure the game was ready for IT before he launched at retail. And so that regardless of whether you know nintendo could pin them that on them or not seems to have inflamed nintendo's fury to to go back to them legally.
So zu went down. Regino went down. There are lots of works of these emulators floating about the internet.
But they are more in the, in the in in, in the dark regions of the space. Now they've slung back into the shadows for the most part. They're trying to keep a away lower profile.
Yeah, it's one of a verge trope, a thing the verge believes is a copyright I lows the only the net, especially when you have a platform because it's the one law everyone agrees can restrict speech. And so you've got a process on youtube where a big company can can just say IT remove this speech and you can fight IT IT sounds like for me a story uh create a games is going to go fight IT um .
but it's expensive and hard actually I think I think he's not .
I don't think he's .
going to find yeah we started out in my story. I say that is waffling and as of my last communication with him, he was waffling. But I I rewrote the drift a few different times. Originally when I spoke him, he said he was seventy percent five percent likely to fight this. He talk to, he talked to lawyers like, yeah, that i've got a fair use case I don't think he wanted to go to court over IT but he can at least submit the counter notice to the dmca take down, which lets youtube after hook and then what's the what's a spotlight on him and then we and see if the intendo sends him a season desist or goes ahead with a lawsuit. He was in that place where he was like, maybe i'll try my like seventy five percent likely I talking him later and he's like, ww, maybe it's fifty fifty I mean.
it's expensive and complicated yeah got be written up. I mean, this is a thing, but we talk about with independent creators all the time. Go be successful. But then there's a whole universe of infrastructure that you don't have because you know like a media company.
But we have lawyers like we at letters and i'm just like, cool, our lawyers will see you now and then our lawyers like Howard, do you want to fight my fight all the way? You know you get to say that sometimes and that's fine, right? Like that's the infrastructure of having a big company around and like having reputation.
And like a lot of the lawyers on the other side, our repeat players and everybody has relationships. Solo creators on platforms are just sort of at the mercy of whoever wants to go after that, including intendo. And then they have to make big meaningful decisions about whether they want to, like, fight for emulation.
Software being displayed on screen is fair use. Like this is very confusing. Well.
this is what the emulators themselves have gone through to the question. Like even if we think we're right and we would win at the end, can we literally afford the fight? And I think the Better a lot of companies make, not just nintendo, but one of the bets that seems like nintendo is making, uh, and has been right so far as that the emulators are going to decide they can afford the file.
right? I talk to a lot of emulator developers for a previous story about what happened to you zoo and what was happening of inks. And every one of them told me, no, I would have to roll over if intendo came after me because there's no way in hell i'd have the resources to fight anything.
Or in an honestly, litigation is exhAusting, right? Like intend of you find them to fight, spend the money and hard. And then as I come after you and say, give me every piece of email that has ever mentioned anyone involved in the development of this emulator.
Show me you all of your history, your dms, and get up. Like, whatever IT is. Like, get up.
D, M, so you understand. Like, show me. Like, involve all of these other people. Because these are almost all volunteer projects in one where are not with lots of contributors. And it's like this is going to be exhAusting and that when is going to play all and it's all like, yeah, I feel for these communities when I come up against this stuff. That is also just very true that the only mechanism we have in the united tes to to handle anything is cop and copy or like the bluntest instrument and you know youtube approach to converse right? Like you three in your dead like that's IT yeah.
I think a lot of people need to know, like a lot people don't know, intendo does not serve you with a copy ride strike the copyrights rike is a youtube platform feature where youtube can make IT easier on themselves so that they don't have to face down any lawsuits from intendo. They can say, hey creators, we're going to make the three strikes and you're out rule so that you please yourself that way we don't need to get involved very often, but automated much as we can come to us if there is a problem and maybe will reach out and intendo in your behalf like they did in this case um youtube did to reach out to intend to according to according to rest grander and to see if they would pull their strike willingly once they knew who rust was and what kind what rust stood for and intend that was like. We're not we're not going to put that says right.
that entire system is not noticed and take them. It's in the digital millions am copyright act in every platform has IT. Youtube just has one expression of IT, and youtube is running into that stuff when they make the video about IT is like when they when they get their wings, more people are regally recover a lot because of youtube was complaining, compare, love and like know the feed limits in their own towns.
And this is all just a thing. Anyhow, it's faster shown. You are we ready with this more? Because IT feels like emulation is a real crosswords.
IT really is. Well, I cannot personally read about the apple respectively. IT is fascinating, ugly, fascinating that this was the year that apple said, hey, you can go ahead and put retrod game emulators on our iphone platform. We're going to explicit carve about something in our APP store rules for that despite the fact that as far as most of the lawyers are telling me are concerned, putting games your own retrogression to an iphone. It's probably not technically like well.
that sounds like a long story that we should published. And we let's take a break, come back with winning around. We back support .

Right back the lightning ground unsponsored, although there might be a use on this front, you can sponsor David's mobile repairing. David will come your house and take any imac you have in turn into your monitor.
David, imac mobile is still very much up.
Have you seen the little board? I think west daily heard about IT. There's a little board that let you turn the sunflower.
I'm actually four into a monitor uh, and he has he has he did IT. He was like twenty year old, actually four. And I immediately went on ebay and twenty and try much force, which are twenty years old. And they are so expense really, they're crazy expense. I mean.
they're just like beautiful furniture. There are one of the that is that old that I would happily just like put up on that mental behind me yeah.
I think. But he was like, why did I do this?
Because IT looks out just a honor.
It's great. right? Lighting around. We promised some hot domain name chat. David, what you got?
I'm so excited about this. So uh, the other day this week, same open, just tweets chat 点 com you click on IT cause to ChatGPT uh IT turns out there is a whole fascinating story behind the fact that if you go to a chat dot com IT leads you to ChatGPT and the the story in a nutshell is uh, drama who is the city of hubby bought chat dot com for fifteen million dollars, fifteen and a half million dollars like last year and then two months later sold IT for we don't know exactly how much.
But he said a profit and enough of a profit that he was able to give two hundred and fifty thousand dollars away, do with that. What you will, my guess is IT was substantially higher than fifteen and a half million. I can approve that.
But based on what I know about domains and the fact that chat that com would be a very highly in demand to a large number of people, I suspect that was very expensive and that he made a tighty sum of money in two months on his fifteen and a half million dollar domain named purchase. Anyway, IT is now the domain name, uh, that leads you to ChatGPT just to clear up a thing that has gotten very confusing in the internet. ChatGPT not remain IT still called ChatGPT still a think a lot of people know.
I still hate the fact that GPT is like a term that has entered the public lexicon that we all just say now hate that, but is still called ChatGPT. But chat that com now goes there. And I think that is going to be the kind of products don't mean for that thing going forward, which is fascinating in a bunch of different directions.
IT says something about how important websites still are in the world. IT says something about how important dot com domains still are in the world. IT says something about why opening. I raised six and half billion dollars because domain names are expensive. Like just there's just a lot going on in this one purchase, but this all happened a Better year ago and I just rolled out this week and uh, I think is is now going to be one of the bigger domain names for a pretty long time.
IT does seem like drama also got shares of opening eye, which is faster. I just not on a public company, but it's a Better to become a four profit public company. There's a lot here. You should read he he put up a tweet being like it's everything. Here's the thing and there's a long prompt for ChatGPT that helps you.
He's like it's a prompt that GPT o one is really good job reading through in the ends with how much do you think he sold the chat dot com domain for what percent of that was in shares of OpenAI provide approximate range and so reasoning but he doesn't show the answer. So is he just hallucinations ever you want is very good. Um so I mean, that's wild old and h it's not like ChatGPT, the most successful consumer products in a long time, was struggling for brand recognition.
IT is also now baked into iphones, will soon be baked into iphone. So I do is just like cure vanity. IT feels like like they have the distribution that they want. But IT does seem like as they go towards being this new kind of for profit company, they're going to they're just going to become more consumer friendly in a variety of of different ways.
Yeah, I mean, i've i've been saying this on a show for a while now, but I think the thing that is happening right now is that open a ee is being lapped as a product organization. Buy a lot of other folks like apple is building Better products around chat G P right now. no. K, that's what i'm that is the lowest bar in history and it's still the case like this is this is where we are.
And give one example of apple building a Better product.
It's easier to get to ChatGPT on that.
just a ure distribution that but .
that's my point, right? I like the Better example is, uh, google is doing much more interesting stuff on top of geri. If you might say that first, I won't drinking on the job why you got to lead with the hot take and then pull IT back.
This is what we do here. Uh, no. But I I think the actual really neighbor is anthropic. And claude anthropic is just building vastly Better consumer products on top of claude more quickly than OpenAI, even though OpenAI typically has been first to a lot of the underlying technology. But you're starting to see this shift where, like you said, chat, that calm becomes just a more understandable able way to get to this thing. anything.
I think one thing somebody said to me a long time ago was that just being able to put a simple domain me on a bill board goes a really lonely like just just to be able to just like you can imagine the billboard, right, that it's just like a pure weight billboard that just says chat that calm on IT like that's powerful in a way that like OpenAI docs flash ChatGPT is not powerful and there's just a bunch of little things like that. They're they've launched this new set of models that are starting with, oh, one instead of GPT dash four o turbo. They're getting slowly Better at putting this in front of people in a way that is sleep. Understandable that only goes as .
far as your products go. I will say one hundred percent sounds like a one thousand nine hundred ninety stating site .
that's me and what that's great.
Uh and I met my wife there, to be honest.
We name chat B T to plenty of fish and will be.
uh, such cases for the wife joke.
We do you want to know, by the way, I I plug all of this into, uh, check GPT all the staff said to do, I just did yeah and the IT gives a lot of thoughts. And then the conclusion that draws is the likely sold chat t com for around twenty to thirty million dollars with twenty five to fifty percent of that amount in open I shares. Ordinarily, that's based on nothing and I wouldn't believe that, but that's what he's told us to do.
So I think yeah, you can take that as something like the truth. And if that's the case, and he did IT a while ago, which that sounds like he did, that man has made a ton of money on this domain because like what what happens to the valuation of OpenAI with this new fund raising? What is what like this was? This is a damn good domain in purchase. If indeed IT is what attribute says IT .
is there's so much Better than tobacco com, which I simply let .
you're missing out.
Do you think you're going to be a name .
ChatGPT to just chat? No, I don't. I think chat V T is actually, against all odds, are very good brand. People know what that is. I think IT IT actually explains itself Better than like claude. Uh, and so there is a IT IT is sort of clean maxi in D A I world like people know IT Better than any other AI product. And like if you can make google work for twenty five years, you can probably make chat P T work for twenty five years.
And yeah, is that a problem for them? I thought of thing clinics was that clinics did not like that clinic was generally .
thought you were saying cleaned at E, X. I. I don't know. It's shocking about. Clean exit actually even say.
oh well, we all need to go outside .
has has been a weird few days is my brain mush I had to earn unearth stories from twenty sixteen and twenty twenty used to know a lot about yes.
it's a class a defining .
program but yeah .
no but chance to your point, I think I think there is something to that. I think that is that's like real sort of champagne problems stuff when you become so big that other people start associating knock off products with your product like everybody wants to have that problem, even though that problem is kind of annoying.
And I think, and even that be clear, that problems also fake a clean oils to work, do not lost the rights to the word clean.
But the idea that you go see any tissue in the store by any brand and I go it's clean x is like you can see how that's a problem for cleaning x. But I don't think clinic is about I think there .
there's A I fine, there's a they may look a musical about IT are one of these companies with one of these names like this may the entire musical. But I are not supposed to say you say something else, which is why they also facial tissue, that this is a horrible tangent.
And now it's time to talk about the matter smart standard, which is my lighting and matter one point four years out, where two years into this, I will tell you that I needed a smart plug for our halloween decorations. And I bought, uh, this is the regular maros home k ones, and the maros matter ones, matter ones were so funny that I just sent back. And I like, like, this still isn't ready, and that's kind of wear.
I am met with matter, but matter one point four is out gently wrote about IT. She's been tracking every answer. Changes to the standard is always with matter updates.
There's more devices, so there's heat pumps and solar panels that did robot vacuum. This stuff is all happening. They still no security cameras.
The reason I want to talk about IT is one, the vocabulary is amazing um and I need to explain the vocabulary to explain the thing that is good about matter one point four. So in the matter standard, every smart home ecosystem is called a fabric. You found me on this.
So apple home kit is a fabric. Amazon's alexa is a fabric. I don't know why they pick fabric, i'm guessing because the center is thread, but they don't all run on thread.
It's very confusing. They're all cut fabrics in the big thing. The big, big thing in matter one point four is multi admin across fabrics, which is yet more vocabulary. But all IT really means is that when you set up Oliver devices in apple home and then connect to alexa, they all just go over there, so you don't have to set them up in two places as at once, which is the thing you would have thought they would have figured .
out from the beginning of matter. Yeah, I just assumed that was .
out of none of this none of this work to the begin matter, like the border raters between wife, I and thread weren't incompatible that the oath wasn't come like none of this stuff work. So they ve they've had the standard on the market, which is you know apple kind of like really pushed this. They've work with amazon.
They ve worked with google to get the standard out. Its built on hunk IT in a lot of ways. And the idea is all of these far term devices should be comparable everyones ecosystems.
And for about two years, what that has meant is there's more devices, but they're really only compatible the one you choose to make them compatible with, right? If you have google home stuff and alexa stuff in your house and home kit, you kind of like pay your smart plug to one. They have more choice because the matter accessory makers can just make one thing, but we don't actually get more compatibility.
What you just described is directly against the whole point of matter.
right? So they finally done the thing.
They did matter.
Now they did the thing are calling IT in hands to multi admin IT lets the .
thread border writers .
thread is the lobe powered wireless signal that all the substance are run on. So the border writers, the bridge from thread to wifi are now compatible. So you can an ero and um a home pod mini and all the stuff and they will bridge to thread, make one big thread and network instead of multiple threats networks, which is what they've been doing up until now.
Um they're doing a Better job of aging wifi writers and have read writers and then all the stuff needed to exist. But the main thing is bridging multi admin across fabrics, which is just platforms. And that means you can set IT off and home kit and then you can buy an amazon alexa and you like already have a matter, already have all the stuff. And I will just figured out now is any of .
that gonna work will .
IT import your rooms in your device names and all of the stuff you need to really make that work. Uh and unclear, uh, jennie's vegetable reporter SHE asked the matter, people this and they are.
did not say I really, really like genes hole quote in this story hearing in at her british access right now matter will make everyone play together nicely this time, promise.
Yeah, bu tuk is going to work great next year. But that's what matter is. It's in the zone. I forgot to mention my way. The reason i've been pointing out called fabric this entire time is this is called fabric sink.
which is nothing. This thing should be called like middle or sewing machine. Like there's a bunch that there's so many things we could do here. But if you're going to commit to this stupid bit.
you have to commit to IT correctly in the quote .
from the all that like color match.
like I from the contacts .
vere standards alliance spokesperson here is if a new device shows up on fabric, a IT can automatically be added to fabric b. Uh, however, IT is unclear whether the crack name in location and the new vice will automatic go to the other platforms who we have to entered this manually that will be up to the platforms to implement. So another year matter, one point five, everybody blue is going to be great next year.
But this is the thing. We're so close, it's all coming in a focus down, right? You buy a smart home device.
You just add IT to one system. Suddenly you can just talk to your gool home and access to device. This is the thing every once.
So we are in that funny moment now where it's like if we could just pretend that every smart home gadgets that had ever been made didn't exist and start from scratch, we could build the good thing so quickly. But because we did the good thing so late, everybody is having to back their way into making this make any sense in a way that is just going to make this worse for everybody for a long time. Like every every story about matter, getting Better makes me want to buy smart home products less. Because like this all sounds great, and I have absolutely no belief that I knew that is coming to anything that I own ever.
Look, David, you just keep looking your garbage. T, V, I let you know is right. By the way, I want to say thank you to the dozens, if not two dozens, s of people who wrote to me in janna about smart garda opener's, and the people in particular who mentioned the red go product, which stands for rage against the garage door opener.
Incredible hobbist project name IT is a hack that gets past the chAmberlin security plus critical, which IT is true that john a stood in a letter and installed one of the one thing, and SHE has a chAmber, one thing which D R, ms. The button, the button on a chamblin. This is the power of monopoly.
The button is dr. Mm, with the the security so awful, it's all ridiculous. But there is a hack or concert ship. And now he is one of those love, that this is our community. You are family are right, no matter what .
happens out there.
we've got back and there is literally text photos. So good, I shan what you.
I also have a mayor of migration that I need to install and hopefully get around the chAmber land or in button. Also got story about invidia, a company that made sixteen point six billion dollars in peer profit last quarter, has decided to cap the game streaming hours on g force. Now its cloud gaming service for its wales.
I don't know why they're doing this. They are doing IT in the best way possible, believe me. I will tell you all about IT. So first off, it's a one hundred hour cap per month.
So you have to play more than like three hours every single day of cloud gaming, which is that a lot of cloud gaming to get to this cap and they're not going to instead that monthly cap until january first twenty, twenty five for new users. And I think it'll be yet twenty twenty six for existing use before they lose their play type c. If you get in now, if you've already in the user, you don't have this monthly cap until an entire year from a january.
In addition to that, while some people worry that they would lose their founders memberships, that they would suddenly have a cap on their founders memberships that were promised to have a certain quality streaming for the rest of their lives as long they maintain their monthly days and videos come out. But recently in FAQ, and they says founders, as long as you keep paying, you won't have a cap either. So founders are taking care of existing customers are taking care of for a year.
New customers can get taken care of for a year if they start early. Lots of lots, they ve got ten out ahead of this. They're telling everybody is clear, their messaging is clear. They're doing a good job compared to most of the companies that we need for this. But I don't understand why they're doing IT at all because the only people they're going to hit with this are the whales, who I would assume are their most vocal and passionate supporters of this service.
Once you got a whale man, you just keep doing after just .
keep raising Prices.
That's so if you think you have never want to see.
know but they they're not church more don't don't they to say hi 我, you can pay more for the other limit but they don't have that as an option. They're just like not we're up in IT for everybody.
So I actually in a funny way, I think doing what you just described end up being a worst P R. Move to basically say, or you want to be unlimited thing now you have to pay more for IT. You're gona piece people of more that way than doing what invidia.
I still, I have two thoughts on this. one. Uh, maybe in video should make Better chips to do all this stuff more efficiently.
That sounds like an a video problem, not in anybody else problem. Uh, you got a bunch of money. Maybe should make Better chips in video.
I just thought, think number two, uh and this was everywhere in the comments on this story and IT was my reaction to is just like, oh god, another really great reason to not that on cloud gaming is is like everywhere you turn IT feels like something about this deal is not living up to its potential. And I mean, IT goes back to the same suffer talking about with even just downloading digital games like there. There is the sense that all of this could be ripped away from me at any time. And none of these companies are doing anything to make that not feel like the case. And even this I I agree with you that this is a relatively small thing and IT will not hit up any people, but is just another one of those things that like maybe don't bet too much on this being a good thing for you forever.
I want a piece three years ago that the only way cloud gaming succeed. And if IT removes all of this friction and IT theodicy could like once upon a type, you could just press about him on a web browser and you'd be playing a game instantly in your web browser.
No problem. Anything you can access.
But I wo. I just put later list of bullet point. These are all of the things that go through people's mind before they sign up for cloud giving. What if my connection isn't good enough? What if my home networking gear isn't good enough?
What if I live too far away from the servers? Will would actually have the games I want to play, will be enough of them to justify the fee, will develop about the important new games over, will they run? As well as if I just bought a consular PC, will I need a special controller? dung?
Will I over my data cap, will I be able to play with my friends? We are in different platforms. Will I lose access to my games that they lose the distribution deal or shut down the servers?
Will I have to wait in line to play the games? Can I get my save games? What about the outs? Are they hiding? How well these games run? What if the company decides that no longer wants to be a game company, which has happened to several of these platforms? Now there's just so much uncertainty going in and just one more piece here from another.
Yeah, you've told me and buying at seven hundred pro.
i'm sitting two feet to away from IT yeah every time every time we talk about the turn off all the internet just let me play games off like .
it's gonna fine yet home studying. But for video games i'm going to .
grow them myself outside too bad because IT works so well and those people that in video capping know .
IT yeah is the first time of success. I mean, you mention i'm making, but they making money saying each one hundred ds to matter is unfortunate, is success for them?
We don't know. I'm guessing it's it's got to be a cost for them, you know, because they have they have massive hardware investment and and infrastructure investment to stand this thing up. Theoretically, they could say, oh yeah, we've got a data center that can do this, say, I think, or could also do that cheap or nothing.
Maybe they are starting to build at that way. But last time I looked, there were special cloud gaming specific data centers for this thing. Wait out in a particular way with particular chips.
So IT also kind makes you wonder if they're capping IT at one hundred hours a month. What are the whales playing like? The, the, the top one percent of g force.
Now, users like how many hours a month must they be playing for NVIDIA to decide that IT has to have this hard cap. It's got to be be a lot like if you have a bunch people who are like a hundred and two hours, you're not insurgency. This cap, they're like they found somebody who is just like has the thing on nineteen hours a day, thirty one days a month. They're like, we have to make this stuff.
I wonder people are just like living in on to, I don't know, maybe they have figured out some work around to mind bitcoin through this and not sure that sounds right.
Mean, that's the sort of thing I would use you fortunate to do yeah if I knew how to doing anything .
and I think we're all worried about invidia is ongoing survival as a company so I hope this works for yeah.
they capture back, baby, you wait there, there. They're coming. C, C, they're a, they are going to do IT are we got a robot where way, way over shown.
Thank you so much for coming on. There's just a lot on the site this week that isn't politics. Go read IT, and we have a good week on the first shot back next week with even more. That's the shell. And that's IT for the verge gas this week.
