Pixel nine so we used to have two phones well， two phones i didnt fold now theres three phones said dont fold in half so Pixel nine is still the the entry level is a hundred dollars more expensive this year， which seems to keep happening to this phone you remember when the Pixel was like the cheap flagship that was like its whole thing that i look at it Pixel 6599 and we are two hundred dollars further away from that， so this year is got 63 inch screen， which is like they keep making it a tiny bit bigger without making the phone like meaningfully bigger， so its still like this small phone of the pixels like do without what you want， but theres more rhyum this year upgraded ultrawide camera a little bit bigger battery that kind of think like incremental stuff and then theres oh the ai you know theres a new chip right thats thats like yeah！
i would assume for all the ai stuff theyre trying to do that ends up in like the big specbomp here would be the new chip tensorg for and thats a across the board in all of them that is one thing Google dos that i really like is have the same chip in everything and they claim its an ai thing and thats sure to make sense but uh at least your phone should perform very well no matter which when you buy is a is a nice and not always common thing to have going on yeah good job Google not a lot of enthusiasm coming from you on the pixel mine i got a select im just its those not brimming with excitement yeah！
its its the boring one this year i think mostly because theres now a pro version it like prophone thats basically same size and i get excited about this size phone so i want to see the pixel nine pro unfortunately， it is shipping much leader than the other ones so gonna be tvd on like opinions about that one the colors are nice this year on the on the small fault the boring phone are they what are the colors you know？
theres always the two boring colors and then theres this winter green yeah， he any so its very like pink and green its its a vive its a very happy pink its its pink its not like heres a drop of pink its basically white they went for it they went for it they they were just the colors we love them i actually appreciate that from Google i feel like everyone else is out here trying to like come up with the fancy names for base on their phones that every year and Google at least is is committed to the bit of do you want this green phone？

yeah like i i do Google yes thank you all right so let let talk about the the pro because the my guest would be that the pro is going to be vastly more interesting to most people than the regular pixel nine especially， because the Pixel nine is not so cheap anymore as to be kind of a timebreaker for money reasons for most people so what and and like you said you can now get a Pixel nine pro at the same size as the Pixel nine， which i think is also a big deal so whats whats the story of the pro here yeah！
the pro so all three other phones are pro something theres the nine pro thats the smaller one nine Pro xl， which is A6 point 8 screen， which is up in you know cm certain galaxes， twenty four ultra territory is like a big one and then the the fold the pixel nine pro fold is a profile this year and its best i can tell i made a spread sheet of this backs pro means it has sixteen gigsagram thats the only like through line on the prophones so like you said they all have tensorg for um we have two choices of prophones that dont fold in half super big screen or reasonably size screen the nine pro is nine 99 so thats no its not a pricing increase even the furnace mal its weird comparing the eight pro to the nine pro 急 its you really want to compare the eight pro to the 9 Pro xl i its real warkey yeah！

that feels pretty conventional like once you like just slick out of the nine in nine proxy， which are gonna come out first， so thats kind like stusual playbook for Google and then a nine pro be out sometime next month they say but yeah， mean i want the fault obviously for no reasonother than its very credit and they got the screen size right， and yeah！
theres a lot like about it this year lets just get into that because i feel like i wanted to sort with the pixel phones because i feel like a they are the ones that most people who want these phones will buy， but also， they are what they are right like were werenface at the all of these phones no matter what company you buy from where you can pretty much write down a list of whats going to happen next year in your almost always right， so lets move on for that because i agree it seems like the fold is probably the most different and maybe most compelling thing in this phone lineup and Chris， i particularly i want you to explain this phone to me because you just wrote a thing that i would call like a a deep backhand compliment to the Pixel fold where kind of like i love this thing its sucks i cant wait for them to do it better so so tell me tell me about the the new Pixel folded and what it seems like Google maybe did right this time uh so they changed the whole form factor so the first full those like a passport style？
like short and squad， and that was fun like the outer screen was like not quite as talsmost found so these are the one hand very easily and then we opened it was like a very wide like interscreen now theyre going towards like the one plus open direction where is like a very tall outer screen is like a normal phone its like a six point three inch display like just like the pixel nine display essential its like the same size so you get like a whole phone on the outside now so youre not really like making it compromises there then you open it up its just like a giant like whole tablet now， uh so the first toll that like had a ton of like uh black bars many apps on the size because like its android no one actually like you know cares about like one device uh so final Google is Gonna say that like all these after Gonna like open the fall screen by the fault now so its gonna have like better app compatibility and its way brighter to like the first folder wasnt that right outside this one is like very very very bright so they have like fixed many problems the cameras are still in our nearest goodis the pros obviously thats the main issue other just like not much a room to fit supernice cameras in there， so thats the main compromise are gonna make if there is one uh but this seems like a superrefind nice version of the first fall thats what the first false should have been essentially and but its， but its now 180 dollars which is streamleexpensive 嗯？

i just the price killse me can its like Google if i if they make me the ceo of Google i would be willing to lose so much money on Pixel folds just like it this is this is your chance if your Google and uh， i want were gonna get back to some of the like big picture where does Google fit into this universe stuff in in a minute， because i wrote a bunch of years ago when the first pixel came out that this was the best phone on the planet and i believes it that and i think Google has the potential to do it now and like just keep sgetting in its own way in a thousands， but were going to come back to all that but this is the if if im Google this sounds like a realchance for this company to be like we have done we have done the thing like we got it kind of right Samsung is getting a little closer to getting it right but is doing sort of a series of boring iterdefupgrades and Allison i remember at io last year we were talking and it was like OK， this pixel full feels like its not its almost there。
but its not quite there and the clear vibe from the first pixel fold was like i cant wait for the next one when they have another year to push at the hardware another year of tryna convince people to make these apps and it feels like this has a real shot of like this might be the one like in terms of the closesfoldwophone to getting it fully right we might be almost there from Google am i am i too excited about this i i think i am just like a slightly less optimistic it does feel like the movie should i mean like the phone that we wanted last years here i love the one plus open form factors so like moving towards that i think is a great move that my biggest complain about the original pixel fall is so heavy it was just uncomfortable to hold it for a while and then it it can be the best for in the world but if you dont want to hold it， theres a problem so this ones the significantly lighter i think those are all really good things i think im still confused by the unlike i get that they have to make trade off for the care right but if youre putting pro on the name of this phone yeah， youre still having a compromise on the camera youre also charging 18 万 dollars yeah？
which i feel as the person， who says prices very loudly occasionally on this podcast its 18 万 dollars thats so much money i know thats like theyre going right for our folding farm i guess which is like fine i get that thats there expensive and thats what they seem to cost but like i just dont and i feel this way with everybody i dont think you get to make any kind of significant compromise and get away with it non that price and Google is gonna say it can do a lot of stuff in software for the camera and that what a lot of people are doing with the camera is not taking photos theyre doing all this ai stuff and thats all well in good but uh i do think the we are going to end up pretty rigorously stressed testing this thing and i think there is absolutely no room for error in the camera in these false so because theyre just too expensive agreed v are you folding phone？
person i dont feel like you and Ive ever talked about folding phones its too expensive for me i am a chief as with my false uh well， not really because i have the iPhone pro backs you know what i really dont like is i dont like how would they keep adding adjectives to the ends of these founds long run number so that its like an alpha bit soup but like im always intrigued by them i just so i take my phone running and i have this feeling of if i drop this， while im running cause i have eaten it， while running before im just going to sit there and be like no im bleating but also， the repair bill has im bleating both my blood and money so uh thats why i havent gotten any kind of folding phone yet because then i would feel the need to have like a safe phone for running and then thats were getting into a two phone three phone territory， im already have a im all im already duolwielding phones because theyve decided to make it so that uh whereas uh watches dont work with an iPhone i used to be able to get away with one phone and test all of these watches note i have that two freakin phones that all times now so welcome to my need a third i dont need a third folding phone even though i would like one i would just want to play around with it but you know im still mad at you David for talking about the books promise so much so stop asking me to buy more thing i talked about it once everybody needs leave me alone about this i got very excited about it one time and i was right and now this is this is somehow my legacy is i have convinced too many people to buy this deeply over press adorable little gadget and to all those people im not sorry at all remotely sorry just be glad we that they didnt release a pixel ring uh because i i literally had the thought in going to this it like v is gonna run out of fingers like its just it were just were toast here so like are i basically testing all of these and Ive neared it down to the three that i think are the best if they came out with a pixel ring， thats probably next year but if they came out with the pixel ring。
this year i would be in so much trouble i already have 6 ring dance its bad so lets actually move on to the wearables cause while were just running to the news this run to the new so the the pixel watch three which i am reliable told is the new one whats the deal of the pixel watch three well。
theres a new size now there uh after everyone complained that the 41 millimeter is too small they have now come out with the 45 millimeter and then they were like OK so the hardware its basically gonna look the same as last year except were gonna add an ulter wide， manchip and actual displays their vigor of writer boldr now uh yeah sure they look the same most people looking at the watches are just gonna be like that that sure is watch the bustles are 十十秒 percent slimor love that and then they were just like and here is a laundry list of software updates that theres it is physically impossible that i will remember every single bit of software that theyve crammed into this thing and its like actually quite impressive the amount of software updates theres like you can streamyournest jorbel or can feed straight to your rest you can unlock your bmw if you have a bmw can also unlock your fixel fun you can do custom runs now which uh you know other watches have been able to do for a long time but now you can program your actual thing its very garmin like you have a morning summary of all of your stuff uh theres an autosleep mode theres cardioload its a lot so Google is is deep in the like health and fitness race now the Google there was a minute at the beginning of the pixel watch where Google was doing that， but also had some big ideas about like the assistant and this is an ai think and it feels like theygetting away from that and just pushing towards this is healthm fitness service i actually think there theyre pushing equally towards the productivity stuff and the health stuff um it was very heavy on the productivity stuff first， i think because they were mostly costing on fitbit exists this is a fitbit platform sure now this time around theyre basically gone what is garmin doing and lets just add it to the watch so theres like a morning summary now， uh you know garmin a couple of generations they got they introduced this thing called morning uh morning report and itll tell you like your overnight， stats and the weather so that you can wake up and go like oh its 九十 time to die on this five mile run uh so now the Google uh Pixel watch three is gonna do that uh and then you know theyre adding something called Cardio load now i think if youve ever used a Garmin or a polar or just like a multisport watch you know what Cardio load is but thats not really something weve seen on these major flagship watches to be like whats your cardio load and cardio load is basically how intensely your heart has been working in your workouts uh over a period of time and its kind of a gauge of like oh you know maybe my cardio load is really high i should ease off or just do more like i hate this but like zone to training its its its its very triggering to hear zone to training for me so you know thats what that cardio load thing is and then you know custom running workouts and running metrics like vertical oscillation， stride cadets vertical oscilation is the most useless metric by the way i dont know what yous supposed to do with that it just tells you how far up and down you move while you run and like the less the better but youjust gonna what you？

change the fact that youre bounc runner anyway， but its gonna tell you all those things theres a new running dashboard within the the fifid app its its a lot of stuff and just like oh the the biggest one that i havent mentioned that yet is that it can now detect a loss of a pulse and call emergency services for you that seems good loss of pulse like its basically like are you dying yeah！

yeah， its very serious so its like you know， if you overdose， if you have heart attack and youre alone its gonna call emergency services for you in the eu， not in the us yet cause obviously this needs um regulatory go ahead for that because the potentials for a falls alarm are very scary i talk to Google and there are like center fusion but dont worry if you just take your watch off， which is a loss of pulse event its not going to call emergency services but you know thats like kind of an interesting thing from Google because thus far they have pretty much been planning catch up in the Smartwatch space they are very late where only on iterversion three of the Pixel watch apple watch were coming out with number ten and sampsongs fuck up there numberings such a long time ago but we are already on seven so you know there pro theyre several generations behind but they are coming out with a health feature that nobody else has by uh gen three and you know they say its because the pixel watch samples your heart rate at a at a much much much higher frequency than other flagship smart watches which is true because theydoing it everyothersocketmost othersmartwatches unless you are in the middle of a workout will do it once every five minutes or so so you know its it is something that they can differentiate themselves with so many updates i leader im sure i forgot like fire or six of four updates in there yeah！
but theres interesting theme there， which is like down this deep tracking yourself rabbitall， which is kind of what everyone has has leaned into in this space？
which makes a lot of sense two more questions on this and then were gonna take a break and then weve gonna do the rest these gadgets question number one fit bit where fitbit is increasingly going the way of nest and that like it is a word that we use there is a lot of history there technically used to are using the fitbit app but is all Google now baby， thats a googlefication of fidbit is i think almost， complete i think next year as the deadline for migrating all of your fitbit accounts over to Pixel or Google accounts rather and if you want to buy the new watches。

its weird because they still have some fitbit its just this main flagship fitbit watch thats actually， a Pixel watch and i think thats just probably part of their ego system play because you do see it working more with other Google services offline maps you have Google Maps offline maps now so there that thats why but at the same time is just very confused eh and it was more so confused with the original and the pixel watch too so uh OK？
last question on the pixel watch uh if memory serves， we have broken or review unit both years of the Pixel watch i believe Chris cracks the first one i cracked the second one oh， Chris that was you the first time yeah yeah and i if if memory serves。
it was one of those like you didnt do anything and then it was cracked thats a one yeah yeah that Google doesnt believe me put it on a charger look at it was like why is a scratch to helloback and everyones like you theres no way you got those scratches without knowing what you did i dont know what i did they it i woke up and it was scratched so yeah and that to me is like the bar for me right its like if i fall on the ground and scrape。
it against concrete and its scratches like i understand how that happens but if i dont even know how it got scratched and it scratched thats thats thats a you problem just a very fragile design you know its get glass dome thats gonna happen totally and its not satire yeah！
i will say i wear pixel watch with most of the android phones are review and im just a ding is im like always ranging to what like a doorway allicen is seven feet tall is an important thing in all of these time uh its been OK i dont have a i dont have any scratches i dont know i i was totally fine with the first fun i i legitimillion telling you i went to bed and i either put it on the charge where i was wearing it i dont remember a year ago a woke up it look like my cat went to town on it but my cat did not go to town on it so i i dont know what happened the Google actually took the watch from me and they sent it to a lab and there are like abrasions happened what i was a well no shit but i we dont know what they were abraisions happened is the title of your memory but the way just to yeah just to put that out there right now it any word on if this one is going to be better at that stuff to we have any like we even saying since the jump that one of the worries of this design was that it would be more fragile and that is clearly i would say proven out of time no changes the same no changes am very excited for the big watch but like thats even more like surface area for it to be damaged so right will see all right all right fair enough all right well。

the noise cant listen is said to be choices good i saw Google now， its own like tensorchip for airbuds i just like apple has their own like slicking for the airpods now googloss attenser A1 chip， which is in the new pixel buds pro to uh， so the anc is choicegood uh the sound quality said to be also much improving thats like i mean reason for not leaping like a very big fan of Pixel buds pros that they sounded okay lead by the cassier or like the new Airpods MA Airpods Pros or even Sampson the new galaxy buds Pro threes they sound quite a bit better so im hopeful the Google is finally you know kind of i made some strides there with the new ones， but the other smaller later they brought back the fen tip， which people were a fan of in the older pixel pods so these all standard ears better during workouts but on the hall you know same things same case the case now was a speaker on the outside so if you lose it， theymake a noise so some small quality of life improvements， but other main things are at the much better anc and the sound quality。

uh so the new thing is the Google tv streamer quite a name terrible name by the way just before just before we get awful offulname Chromecast had brand recognition， but now lets do Google TV streamer this flows right off the tongue its really does what if we had more Pixel streamer pickthat pickanything so cost hundrebox its a box now its not a dongle anymore uh so the set top box its its nice， its pretty its guy like a built in a thernet Jack， which is nice to have on streamers all the time but runs the same like softwors the most recent Chromecast uh so you can have all that ill have like Gemini ai features sure uh its gonna be twenty percent faster than the chrome cast people have always been like waiting for like a fast current cast and the so they claim that like the Nvidia Shield was there like me like golposts here to reach i dont i dont think its Gonna reach that so twenty percent fetch than the four year old Chrome cast with Google TV is like still not Gonna be a part burner of a of a device and is like most of our comments were like thats not gonna get it done from me and wanna you know its good binapple tv Ada uh， but the chrome cast is dead but the casting feature is still alive and well obviously secret still cast to the box to all the same stuff but the name is now gone quick pull before！

i just want to sit down and watch something which promote to grab its the abletv for OK OK so if i if i were to like big picture try and explain what Google is doing here it seems like the thesis is if you want just a simple kind of cheap dont really worry about it way to stream shows performances an amazing but you just like need a thing that plays your shows you you cant fit into net choice right like your your tv probably does it you probably have a dongle that does it you probably have a box that does it your cable company will happly give you one like theres a million ways to do it and so if you want to differentiate and win， you have to do better right and and weve been in this weird space for the last few years with the only ones doing better have been the apple TV and the Nvidia Shield both of which are like old outdated devices at this point， but both of which were so far beyond everybody else that they continue to be the only options if youre like i want my tv to be fast and on the on the one end， i think that the idea of lets compete at the top end and make them better and make people want to buy them instead of just the default thing that they have is very exciting but i do i kind of agree with our commenters in the sense that im not sure at least from what weve seen so far wehave to test the thing and see that this is that thing like if Google who come out and been like we have five ext the performance of the chrome cast its gonna blow your freakin mind through the back of your head and its five hundred dollars people what a freaked out yeah， but i， i am， i am， i am！

i go up it it does a really good job of like its its very content first， but it also makes getting to the apps easy apple is super appfirst i think the fire TV is mostly just trash broku is super appfirst and i think Google TV like does a pretty good job of showing you everything you would want to see relatively in one place and so for me like i have a row co TV and i bought an apple TV that i just used instead on my ROCO TV so my ROCO TV is one job is just to take me to my apple TV because it is like an unuseable interface on this trash TCLTV i bought at Cosko a million years ago that is probably true for many people these days yeah right， so i think if im Google im like OK， uh keep pushing at this idea of like a thirty fifty dollar way to give you Google tv which is better and and i feel like what Google is instead doing is saying okay we want a there theyre like expliting a weird difference between make it easy to get Google tv and make a really powerful box it seems like theykind of in a middle ground that im not superpositive is Gonna work for them yeah！

alright were back so another year another bunch of Google devices that i would say by and large seem to be very good cudos right like this this is whatever year were almost a decade into Google appearing to genuinely earnestly care about making hardware i think for a long time， we were all skeptical if this is going to be a thing Google kept caring about for a long time， i think two its credit Google has kept caring about it for a long time， never say neverwith Google but it feels like this matters to Google in a very real way， what i still wonder and what seems to be true is that Google has not made any kind of like main stream dent as a hardware company yet i think ironically like the Chromecast is probably the most successful piece of hardware Google ever made it was a huge hit， especially to beginning because it was cheap in it work really well。
and theres really nothing since then that feels like a sort of gigantic main stream winner like there is still very much apple and Samsung especially in it says and then like gigantic gap down to Google i would argue that the pixel watch is actually kind of the opposite like you i think Sampson is herding a little bit and theyre having to actually bring up their game a little and because the Pixel watch was wildly popular when it first came out to the point where Samsung was like uh oh， i gotta do things heres the copycat apple watch ultra and a ring so you know i think thats surprisingly one area that its doing pretty well in but you know smart watches are kind of buiphicated into iOS and Android at the moment anyway， so it didnt have to really compete with apple at all because people on Android cant get an apple watch， it only really had to compete with Samsung， which is weirdly its partner in where was land， but its kind of been eating Samsung s lunch for a little bit because its i dont know its， its， its its interesting theyre doing weird interesting stuff there and its kind of ecosystem in a weird way yeah！
i mean i think the the pixel watches actually is is a good example， and it does seem like at least on that front with the first one i remember people being so excited just about the way it looked that it was like this is the first smart watch that doesnt sort of scream technology at you， and that was that was a big win for Google so maybe thats one of the answer to my question， which is going to be do we see anything here that feels like it has kind of breakout potential i think i may be the most bullish of the four of us on the possibility that the fold could be a winner i think it 180 dollars theres a pretty big within low cap on how big a winner it can possibly be but from the stuff that youve seen then you know you all have been testing and talking and focus about these things for years now do we see anything thats sort of a possible kind of game changer in the Google hardware business screenshots at really comes down like past years always been no the cameras great！
which is still as like people know the pixel camera is great like thats its like main thing but this year feels like all this ai so they give it works its gonna be great you know like if it doesnt then its gonna be me like i see pixels out in the world they got it theyre selling some they are selling a few so i think like you know theyve got a base of customers but its like how do you get them to upgrade cause like hardware is like all the same youreview like all these like Pixel nine。
pro and Pixel nine its like there is some like utensorg for benchmarks its like barely faster than last years chip so like its not gonna be like that thats not why youre upgrayougonna upgrade for Gemini potentially for like some of these new camera software features its like soft or soft or softws this year and so i get the screen shut up works like thats gonna be great and if it doesnt then its then im going to you by the fold and after the next fiveyears that will be my phone because i can afford an eighteen hundred dollar phone i was gonna say and you are historically representative of people who buy smart phone yeah that makes perfect sense exactly uh now i mean the the ai thing i think is is a really interesting point because the bat from all of these companies really is that they can take a bunch of kind of little ai things whether its in the camera or in the productivity stuff or in some of the wearables and that all of that adds up to something that is kind of a tile breaker to other devices and i feel like Allison this is been a theme of a lot of the coverage youve been doing recently is like does all this ai stuff really add up to anything and im curious how you feel obviously we we have to review all these things there is still lots to be seen in this is all change only fast but do you have an early readof like is there a kind of whole greater than the sum of its parts in the ai story here this i wish i did this is just one of those like i feel like you got to live with the phone a little bit to see if it i i think you know we we all bought a chrome cast cuz it solve the problem were like this is incredible its twenty box you just plugin it in the back year tv i dont see anything like that you know like in the Pixel phone series right now Gemini could be that thing if its if it really could you know bring all the ai pieces together and make your life easier but i think were going into this this ecosystem error is really going to like wejust going to draw down in it because somebody things are gonna be wrapped up in your Google one subscription or your apple subscription and totally agree if you want smart Siri？
you need the the expensive iPhone and probably an apple subscription plan and some point im nervous about um ai subscription how i think its just the whole ambient computing thing like i think completely tier point its gonna be the whole ecosystem play because you know the Pixel on just you know wearable ladies so of course， i think it wearable but like the Pixel watch when it came out there like this works for anyone with any phone and just increasingly year by year more and more features are just going to work better she have a Pixel phone with your Pixel watch so like this year its gonna be Pixel recorder app on the watch its gonna be seeing your dorvel feed and its just gonna be one of those things where i think its just what do my gadgets play well with and thats how we win dominance so if the pixel watch is great and it works with other pixel hardware thats Google saying socket Samsung because who uses smart things on a honest to god i think thats like kind of what theyre doing and why they just go ambiate computing when youre now watching every once in a while wink when could nudge nudj one？
i think thats thats whatbeen so sort of backhanded about Googles entire hardware strategy over the years is that like the reason people end up in the Samsung ecosystem is because they buy Samsung phones and so then then there force to you smart things Google is trying to convince you that there is some like essential googleaness that is worth buying into the ecosystem and it has just always felt like they needed the one hardware victory to get there and and its like people people want the gadget and then they buy into the software and Google is trying to do that backwards which i think is really interesting， but doesnt really seem like it is worked in a huge way obviously time will tell and the reviews will be really interesting and im im like i i think its not crazy that the pixel fold might be away a lot of people actually and have been the secret system because i think there is like latent interest in this stuff alright we all need to go you guys have things to do and phones to touch and more watches to where im sure are we excited happytimes what whats the are we are we bullish or bearish on on Google heading into this fall this feels like a im im a little like overall kind of like yeah seems fine but that seems me where we are in so many gadgets this year optimistic with reservations OK？
yeah im surprised because i was expecting nothing but a hardware refresh and theyre like where im hit the in the face with all the software so im curious to see how all the software works my smart home is mostly Google base so if if this pixel watchworks with my smart home in a meaningful way。
