This show is sponsored by Liquid IV, and I couldn't be happier about the timing. The calendar year turning to 2025 means your boy has officially started Boston Marathon training again. Yep, here we go. Looking at speed runs on the treadmill, tempo runs here in hilly Atlanta, and long runs over the weekend. And my go-to hydration before, during, and after each training session is Liquid IV. The reason is simple. Just go to liquidiv.com
Just one stick plus 16 ounces of water hydrates better than water alone. Powered by Live Hydra Science, Liquid IV is an optimized ratio of electrolytes, essential vitamins, and clinically tested nutrients to turn ordinary water into extraordinary hydration. It delivers three times the electrolytes of the leading sports drink.
And can we just keep it real here for a second? Liquid IV is leading the way in flavor innovation. I legit like them all. I've tried them all. But my favorites right now are the six delicious sugar-free flavors. Raspberry Lemonade, that's the best. White Peach, shockingly tasty. Green Grape, let's go. And there's Lemon Lime, Raspberry Melon, and Rainbow Sherbert.
Who made that decision? And who decided?
Such a wild word to settle on, baby. Rolling a dog, oh, why do we, I'd call it something else if it, maybe something like toe-puffing a virgin. Stupid adapter or expensive wiggly thing, oh.
Good morning, sweet world! And welcome to the No Dunks Podcast on The Athletic Network. It's Thursday, March 27th, 2025. I'm Jay Skeets here in the Classic Factory and alongside me, as always, Tass Mellis. Dongle lovers, this one's for you. Next to him, it's the bearded one, my top shot hot boy, Trey Kirby. And over yonder, making the magic happen all day long today, super producer, J.D. Back to back to back jacks today. That's right, J.D.,
Tonight is the night. The final time to ask your mom if you can come to the No Dunks Live podcast pizza party. Bring your sleeping bags. We're eating pizza all night. Tabasco helping us out with the live show tonight here in Atlanta at the Seven Stages Theater. Few tickets remain. Hit the link in the show notes and come on out. We are going to have a blast tonight.
We got an Atlanta edition of the UpDown Report. We've got an entire pizza topping bracket to fill out with the help of the audience. We'll talk some hoops. And you know we're going to eat some pizza with some Tabasco on it. Yeah, we are. So much. Come hungry tonight. J.D. said he's ordered 25 pizzas.
Giant ones. And we're taking zero home. I'd like to take a bit home. No, we're going to eat them all. They will be empty. We do not leave the seven stages standard stage until all 25 pizzas are eaten. That's right. Yes. All right. This is fun too. Mission accomplished, guys. When it comes to asking you to fill out the podcast survey. We asked you yesterday. Hey, do you do us a favor? Go fill out the podcast survey that The Athletic wants us to fill out. They already told us that's enough.
This is legit from the athletic slash no dunk Slack channel. Adam writing to us. Hey, bud. This is to JD specifically. I'm glad you guys are tight like that. Hey, bud. Hey, bud. You guys can stop plugging the survey link now. I think you've been responsible for 75% of the respondents so far. Again, this is a 24 hour window here. So we broke it again, JD, just like you wanted to. Exactly. As I expected, you guys came through stream team.
Podcast listeners as well, Leo. Yeah. Everybody. Everybody came through. So appreciate it. Thanks, everybody. And some of you will hopefully win $100 worth of Amazon vouchers. Three lucky winners. I hope it's all No Dunks people.
They got there early to filling out the podcast survey. I'm rooting for Tom Poro. No offense to everybody else, but I know he signed up. He messaged me. He said, I'm looking for those vouchers. He wants to buy some vinyl. Oh, okay. Great. I'm guessing. I don't know. Good luck to Tommy Poro. All right. Before we get into last night's games.
Can we talk a little bit about LeBron James' crazy day? It's got an action-packed Wednesday. We're going to try and challenge him here today with all our shows. LeBron, first off, he signed a new podcast deal with Wondery, and he's bringing in a new co-host in two-time MVP Steve Nash. So mind the game. Wait, mind your game? Mind whose game? Mind that game. Mind this game or that game?
All games. Mind all games. I legit can't remember what it's called. Mind all games. The. Yes. The. Anyway, it's coming back. So that was the first piece of LeBron news. A little surprising he's...
Recording them now during the season. A little surprised, but you know. He did last year. Yeah, he did. He got a lot of downtime. Secondly, LeBron appeared on the Pat McAfee show for a wide ranging interview. The comments that got all the clicks though was LeBron comparing Stephen A. Smith to Taylor Swift. That is a sentence I did not think I'd say. Oh, I thought the clicks were for when he pretended to read a book.
You know, the whole idea of that. That was good. There was many other things. Lots of comments about his relationship with Michael Jordan, comments about playing with his next son, joking about that. But no, it's the one about Stephen A because he was referring to the number of times Stephen A has publicly addressed a tense interaction.
the two men. Hence the Taylor Swift like tour as LeBron put it. I'm paraphrasing a little bit. Lots to unpack with that one. I don't know if you want to. Well, like it's pretty interesting that he went on ESPN, the Pat McAfee show.
And was going at Stephen A. Smith, ESPN's biggest personality, and Brian Windhorst, ESPN's biggest NBA writer at this point. You don't usually see that from LeBron. Obviously, the guy has been the subject of criticism his entire career. Woes really went at him early in his career. Skip Bayless...
had a resurgence as a media head just by trashing LeBron. And LeBron has never said anything about either of those guys, but he's established at this point, one of the greatest players of all time, amazing career. He feels pretty comfortable now getting on the mic and talking trash about the guys that are working on the same network that he's appearing on. I think that was pretty interesting. And LeBron was pretty vulnerable. I thought pretty open with his opinions for sure. I don't know if I agree that Giannis Antetokounmpo could score 250 points.
points in a game in the 1970s but I appreciate LeBron getting these takes off because he's pretty stage managed for a lot of his career and he's telling you what he really thinks right now. I think he's getting his podcast reps in here. That's right. By doing this. Car wash. Yeah, that's right. So, I mean, we could do an entire episode on all the stuff that he did say on the Pat McAfee show but specifically the Stephen A and going back at him. You won't believe this. Stephen A has already responded. Yeah, he dropped a 50-minute podcast.
The first two minutes were about the Three Americans live tour with Chris Cuomo and Bill O'Reilly that he's going to be doing. And then after that, it was just 49 straight minutes of talking about LeBron on another show. Okay. So that will continue. And even LeBron, he said like when he was saying what he said about Stephen A and the altercation, he's like, oh, no, I mean, I'm just giving him more ammo here for him to continue to talk about this. He was right. But LeBron's day ended last night.
By tipping in a game winner at the buzzer to lift the Lakers over the Pacers. Dramatic finish. Kept a crazy game. Wild swings in this game. And lots of stories from the game to talk about. And it all happened on one of LeBron's quietest offensive games of his career. You know, he barely had scored up until really that fourth quarter. And then got it going and had the tipping game winner that they went and looked at. And he just got it off. So...
Or do you want to start with the actual game talk after LeBron's insane day? Yeah, LeBron...
Quiet first half. Zero field goals. And then to finally get there in the end, all because he's playing with a guy who can carry a team in Luka. This is a fantastic close for Luka in this game. And just to point out what Luka did to get them to this point, I thought was really, really important because his last five games, Luka has been pretty poor in the second halves of games. He hasn't been himself. Eight and a half points on 28 from the floor and 28 from three. So...
is his body able to get them to the finish here as they go into a very important part of the season? It's schedule heavy and they go into the playoffs. Well, he had a great second half, 15 on six of 12 shooting, although he got burned a couple of times in the last two minutes there pretty badly by Nembhard and Halliburton on the defensive end. And then he was able to get to the rim there.
And LeBron got the tip in, which I was very surprised that the Indiana Pacers didn't use their foul to take. They had a foul to give there. Everybody calling from the bench, foul, foul. Let's get our tall guy on the floor. How about that? Miles Turner is just sitting on the bench. A guy who had a great block a couple of minutes earlier on Rui Achimura. He's just sitting there. So they had a foul to give a weird one there that they didn't do that. And then on the other end, they also...
Before that, they took 24 seconds to get a freaking shot off. They were basically killing clock up one. And they also had a timeout that they could have called and said, oh, why don't we run a freaking play here? So a couple of mistakes, I think. And get Hellebrutman. Yeah, yeah. So two big mistakes there on both ends to close this game because that was weird. I mean, time was ticking down there with...
The ball, LeBron had the ball, seven, six, five. The whole freaking bench is calling, foul him, foul him. They get it up to Luka up top. And yeah, LeBron's just bigger than everybody else. So he got the tip in just, just, just before that buzzer.
Yeah, I agree. I thought a mistake from the Pacers players not fouling because by all accounts, the bench was calling for it and they had talked about it prior to that. And then a mistake from Carlisle not calling a timeout when Jairus Walker gets the rebound. 33 seconds left. Not a surprise they would run the clock down trying to have as close to the last shot, but they had a timeout left. So if the Lakers, you know, if the Pacers don't score like they didn't and the Lakers decided to run it down, they could either take the foul.
or if the Lakers score real quick, they call a timeout and advance it. Didn't make sense. If you're going to go offense-defense, when you get back on offense, bring in the offense guy. Tyrese Halliburton was awesome last night. They could not keep him out of the lane. It definitely felt like the Lakers got up six and thought, we're good. We don't need to play this last minute. They gave up two of the easiest layups you'll ever see. I would also even rather have Ben Matherin handling the ball.
after Walker grabs the rebound. He kicks it to Matherin. Matherin gets it to Nembhard. They take forever to get into their offense, but it's a Nembhard pick and roll. Doesn't go anywhere. I think he finds Jarris Walker, who then finds Matherin. Good double by LeBron because Matherin gets the ball with four seconds left. So LeBron just runs right at him. There's no other option.
butt to shoot. But Matherin was cooking eight points, one assist in the fourth quarter. We just mentioned recently that he's been having these awesome fourth quarters, awesome clutch time. He was great again in this one, but he barely even got a touch on that last possession. So, you know, the Pacers have pulled a lot of games out of thin air in this nice run they've been on.
You have to play things perfectly, and they didn't play things perfectly. Also gave up two wide-open three-pointers to Rui Hachimura. Really nice to knock him down, and then couldn't find LeBron on the glass in that last second there. So a few mistakes from the Pacers cost them a victory, but that was an awesome game between these two teams. That felt like a playoff intensity game. Yeah, it did. And Rick Carlyle, he acknowledged choosing not to call a timeout being a mistake.
And this is what they do. This is what he does. He does a lot of the offense for defense, right? Those guys. Be it Halliburton comes off on the defense possessions. Obviously, he's out there for offensive possessions. But yeah, when Halliburton hits the and one shot, because he also converted the free throw, which he got a nice bounce on, that put them up one.
That was like 42 seconds left. Lakers call a timeout, and that's when Rick Carlisle, okay, Walker, you're in for defensive purposes. Again, this is something they do do a lot. That's okay, but you're right. It worked. They got the stop. Walker got the rebound. Now, I think they thought they had a little bit of semi-transition, right? Like they were going. There was a Laker behind the play a bit, but then nothing materialized, and that's when you can just call the timeout.
Get Halliburton in there. Or you see a very bad play developing where it's not going well, where they shut down the Andrew Nembhard pick and roll. Why don't we just get a better shot? Because they just weren't running a good play. Period. So why not? We got this timeout. Let's just freaking use it. Yeah, exactly. They go offense, defense, and when they're on offense, their best offensive player is on the bench. And then when they're on defense, their best defensive player is on the bench. Yes. You blew it. And you're right. They...
Benedict Matherin has been awesome in fourth quarter, so I guess they were just hoping that he got the ball, and he did, but the double took him away from it. It just took way too long. And again, then it goes to the other end where Aaron Eastman is guarding LeBron James, and you've got the assistant coach, Jenny Busek, right in front of them. Foul, foul, foul. It was super loud. I could hear it in my ears watching the TV. In the corner where he's coughing corner there, and he has his back to the basket. It's like he's not going to get you on some...
you know, oh, you're going to reach. I'm going to take a jumper here and get to the line. Yeah, I'm with you. They blew it. I guess Neeson was blocked off. But anyway, it was a fantastic game. And Luka, although he gave up two very bad blow-bys the last couple of minutes, I mean, he had a good game. His fourth consecutive, the 30th or more, 30th.
34 in this one. Great stuff. But the second half was the important part for me where he looks better other than getting blown by pretty hard. And you're playing five out because Myles Turner was on the floor for those ones. So there's nobody behind you where, you know, somebody can just sag off Myles Turner and,
That wasn't happening. So it was clearly, it was a layup line. It was. It appeared like you almost had to like look at the clock every time and go, they're playing it like there's 20 seconds left in the game. And it's like anything but a three type of defense and like do the old Ole defense. Hey, take a two, take a layup. We don't care.
But it was like, it was still like, you know, just under two minutes to go when the layup line started happening. And you're like, what are they doing? Yeah. Wild game. Nico Harrison must have loved that, right? That's what I traded him for. That's why. Any other takeaways from this Lakers-Pacers game? People were...
that LeBron's 10-point streak was not going to continue. Like you said, he didn't make a field goal until the fourth quarter. He ended up scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter alone, including the biggest basket of the game. But it was pretty interesting because ESPN earlier in the day had put out an article about bettors who won a ton of money betting like $10,000.
to win 500 that LeBron would go over 10 points. He always goes over 10 points. Eventually, the books pulled that off because literally they're giving away a free $500 to anybody who's willing to bet $10,000. There were times when it was a question if LeBron would get it, but I think the last time he didn't have 10 points was in 2014 in a postseason game, so even that...
was 11 years ago at this point, but it got pretty close there in the end, and it definitely felt like LeBron knew the streak was in jeopardy, so he just started going to the rim all the time. All the Lakers were getting him the ball all the time at the start of the fourth quarter. They were all in on it. You can't go and appear on Pat McAfee's show and then have your streak end and you lose. What's up?
So things worked out perfectly for LeBron to preserve that legendary streak. Yes, the streak survives. All right, let's keep it going here. Just wondering, TJ McConnell hit a shot over Luka and ran back up the floor and smacked Luka's butt when he did it. I just wondered if Luka was going to complain or not, but he didn't. He was just like, okay, guy smacked my butt. That's cool.
Usually Luca complains. Not in this instance. And I wonder, was that a tech? Tech worthy? Probably. What? I would say that. I think so. A butt smack? It depends on if the player wants it.
If Luca says, hey, no butts, Max. Consent. Luca was keeping calm last night. He was not dripping wet and he was not complaining. Yeah. I agree with that. They needed that victory. I mean, to pull that off, they almost gave it away. These are all important games when you're watching the standings as close as we are here.

And one game, their team was happy to get their guy back. Let's go to Jokic returning for the Nuggets. Now they're taking on the Bucs. He comes back. He puts up a 39-point triple-double. I mean, he hadn't played in like two weeks. No problem. He looked fresh. He even had a dunk. I think when you see that, you're like, oh yeah, those legs are feeling good. The Bucs' first game since it was announced that Damian Lillard
So maybe it's not a big surprise that Denver wins, but Jokic, Trey...
just another masterpiece here. And he had maybe the, one of the best assists of the year with the, the no look sort of spinning dime over his shoulder to cutting Aaron Gordon going back door. That was a beauty. I guess it's up there with a, like Shangoon had a sweet behind the back pass in the post. That was one of the passes of the year, but this Jokic one was sweet because it came out of nowhere off the dribble pretty tight. But yeah, bad game to have no Giannis in this one. Yeah. We're showing you the Jokic.
pass the like baseline angle is insane as well um
But yeah, nice stuff from him. That's like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson. That's a Larry Bird, Magic Johnson. Bad game to not have Giannis, though, I thought in this one. Obviously no Dame, no Giannis as well. And Denver just did what they do. They're the best paint scoring team in the league this season. They went 64 to 56 advantage last night. They shot 65% in the lane. You mentioned Jokic had a dunk in the half court.
In the first quarter. Jamal Murray also had a dunk in the first quarter. It's just very hard for the Bucs to be able to defend a team like the Nuggets when Jokic is playing as well as he is because he was shooting the ball pretty well from the outside. So that brings Brooke Lopez out to have to guard him. That leaves nobody on the back line for the Milwaukee Bucs. So like you're seeing on the dunk off the Jokic pass, there's nobody there to guard Aaron Gordon. And who would be there anyways? Torian Prince.
Kyle Kuzma, guys that aren't going to be a deterrent at the rim, and they certainly weren't. The others played very well for the Nuggets as well. Christian Brown could be a most improved player, an actually improved player. 19 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists. His passing was awesome in this one. Michael Porter Jr. had 4 assists in this one. I was surprised by that, but he was passing the ball nicely. The Nuggets had 36 total because they play a Jokic style of basketball.
I think passing is just as contagious as shooting. Once the ball is moving, everybody wants to move the ball. And it was moving like crazy. Peyton Watson, 12 points, three blocks. They just all showed up. Fun game to watch if you're a Nuggets fan. I think if you're a Bucs fan, you're probably like, well, we're going to lose this one because we don't have enough out there to make up for the defense. And they definitely did it. Yeah, not a lot to take from the Bucs side. But from the Nuggets side, the Michael Porter Jr., not only assisting the ball, but having a good shooting night. The guy has been slumping. And if you want to win...
You're going to need his three-point shot to be able to be dropped. And this was his best game in a long time. Seven of nine, six of eight from the three-point land. 23-10 rebounds along with those assists. Plus that Peyton Watson, as you mentioned, those three blocks, he is the guy that they can just stick on anyone to play defensively. He is amazing at that. And the question is, can he do enough offensively?
If they get out and running, he can. So this is just a fun team to watch because here comes Jokic. You can stand at the top, stand at the three-point line, and then all your cutters. Here they come. Here comes Peyton, along with Russell Westbrook, along with Christian Brown. They have those guys. So it's Ken Jokic and Jamal Murray-Carrie for a postseason. Maybe Aaron Gordon.
Didn't even have to do a lot in this game. They just had enough other guys. So they looked extremely deep tonight. So the Nuggets improved to 46-28. The Lakers with the win. They're 44-28. So Denver is a full game up on them, but obviously have played two more games. And you said you brought up the back-to-backs and the crazy schedule that the Lakers have, so they'll start making up those games pretty soon here. But that's where we are in the standings. And they play everybody basically ahead of them. They've got two more against the Rockets.
They've got one against the Memphis Grizzlies coming up, and they hold the tiebreaker over the Nuggets, who they don't play. But it's coming down to the wire. There's no doubt. Jokic looked awesome, though. Like, he was two weeks off, basically, after this, and that's got to be the longest he's sat on the bench, not playing. He'd never miss his games. Like, that's one of Jokic's...
strengths for sure. And he comes back and drops 39, 10 and 10 against a solid defender in Brooke Lopez as well. And Brooke just didn't have any answer for him, though. I do love a throwback Brooke Lopez game when they have no Dame and they have no Giannis. They're like, well, somebody's got to score. So he gives you what? 26. But it was not a match for Jokic defensively. I didn't think Jokic was kind of toying with him. I'm surprised he actually missed nine shots because it felt like he made everything. Yeah. Yeah.
His 10th assist, my only question in this one, do you guys think ball passed out to a guy on the perimeter who breaks down his defender and scores? Is that an assist? I mean, Jokic had multiple guys come at him. So he is, in essence, creating an assist because the space is just there for the other guy, which...
multiple dribbles to get there for the other guy. So it's just that old what the hell is an assist anymore? They're sometimes extremely lenient with them. It was Jamal Murray from the three-point line getting all the way to the rim.
So was the assist an assist? I mean, I guess. I guess, sort of. I couldn't say no in this instance because, again, everybody's coming at Jokic. So that's your 10th assist. Be careful what you say here. Silver's going to hear this. Then they're going to go look at it. Then they're going to take it away. Then that's a triple-double they're taking away. And I think that was his 30th triple-double of the season last night. He broke the Nuggets franchise record for most triple-doubles in a season. It was his own record, so don't worry. Yeah.
I was like, who else? You're opening up a can of worms here. Yeah, sure. I'm up for it.
But you're not wrong. There are some assists where you're like, what? He passed it to the guy and then the guy did all the stuff. And it's like, okay, you did assist it to him, but it wasn't maybe in rhythm of a shot. Yeah. More than one dribble, I think, should not be an assist. I sort of agree. And dribble handoff assists should maybe count as half. Oh, wow. Half for the handing of the ball, though, maybe half for the body of the screen. Sure, it is almost a screen assist as well. Clippers defeated the Knicks.
Big win for them. They climbed to number six via the tiebreaker with the Warriors. So obviously that's a little bit below the Nuggets-Lakers. I guess the Grizzlies are in the middle there. And that's where we're at with the Clippers and Warriors. But good win from LAC there. The Knicks were hanging around for a good half or so, and Clips turned it on. Yeah, until late in the third quarter when James Harden turned it on. They decided, all right, James Harden, you're going to lead our second unit. That run at the end of the third quarter, it was all James Harden. They went on a 16-3 run.
He had 11 of the points in less than three minutes. Just bang, bang, bang, bang. Three threes, two free throws, and a block of Tyler Kolek. What? He was able to recover and block Tyler Kolek. So fantastic on that side. He was also questionable coming into this game because he was banged up after hitting Lou Dort. Or Lou Dort hit him, let's say. And so this guy, when you're talking about resiliency...
This guy is resilient. He keeps on playing. He's going to finish top 10 in scoring. He keeps on playing. So great for them, for him to carry that second unit. And then the first unit was carried by Kawhi Leonard in the end. He just looked so good. And he answered the eternal question that happens with basketball games. What beats good defense?
Good offense. OG Ananobi literally couldn't guard the guy any better. He had his hand up way in his face as high as it possibly could and Kawhi Leonard able to shoot over that hand because he is in robot mode. He is in feel-good mode.
And I didn't think that starting this game, he didn't look incredible. I thought the Clippers bench were the ones carrying this team. They brought a lot of life to this team. I mean, Batum chased down block, the bogey jumper, Simmons tip back on an offensive block. Ben Simmons, although his right hand push shot, not so good, but he does other things. And then Derek Jones Jr., this guy is awesome.
He did so many things in this game. I was surprised that he was going to the bench for Chris Dunn, but it makes sense because Chris Dunn can help out. So it's just a ton of good things for the Los Angeles Clippers, including, just to end it, Norman Powell. This was his best game since he returned from an injury because he was out a month. This guy's the leading scorer for this team. He was out a month, came back four games in.
He only scored 7, 11, 14, and 9. Made 3 or 4 shots in each of those games. And then this one, he made 4 threes. 7 field goals, 19 points. So he's starting to look like it. And I know, Skeets, you can't buy into this Los Angeles Clippers team. Be careful. It's early.
Because you can't really put full stock into them until the whole playoffs thing starts. But, man, they look spectacular in this one. I'll say what's good for the Clippers maybe being a realistic team that can go far, led by Kawhi, because that's what it comes down to. If Kawhi's playing, then they have a chance to beat anybody. He's now played four games in the month of March where he's played over 39 minutes. This one last night against the Knicks, it was the most minutes he's played in a game this season. It was nearly 41 minutes, just under 41 minutes. He had a 40-minute game.
This week, on the 23rd, in a loss to OKC, and then he's played a couple other ones over 39 minutes in March a little bit earlier. That's good. That's a good sign. He's playing a lot. He's going to have to play a lot in the playoffs. But yeah, I think the big concern too was a bit of a Knicks back-to-back. They did run out of gas. That's why you guys sort of were taking the clips last night when we got to our pick-em, because that was maybe going to be a schedule loss. And again, they were in it.
For a half or so, and then the Clippers were awesome in the second half. They weren't until they ran out of gas. They got literally nothing from their bench. 12 total points. And, I mean, you look at the guys they're playing off the bench, it's basically nobody. You know, like Tyler Kolek, he played, once again, six points, two assists. Not a great player, but some teams right now are playing for seeding, like the Clippers are. They're trying to...
inch their way up the Western Conference. I think they would probably rather be seven than six, to be quite honest. Who would you rather play, Houston or Denver in the first round? I'll take the Rockets. The Knicks are playing to stay healthy and to get healthy. Like, they're pretty much locked into the three seed right now. All that matters for them is that Jalen Brunson is able to get back on the court in time for the playoffs. But you're right. It was Harden in the third quarter, 16 of his, 29, doing James Harden stuff, pick and roll and three-pointers.
Then Kawhi Leonard had 14 of his 27 in the fourth quarter. All mid-rangers. Like, this is what these guys have done for 15 straight years when they're on the court. Harden's always on the court. Kawhi is often on the court. Or...
Occasionally on the court, sometimes on the court, finish the playoff series, and then we'll be talking about this team. If he plays in the playoff series and plays an entire seven-game series, they've got a chance. That's what it comes down to. Because, I mean, if it's Harden and Zubats, it ain't happening. Right, right. No offense. If it's Harden and Norm Powell and Zubats, it ain't happening. They need Kawhi. He's their number one guy. He might not be the leading scorer, but he might be by the end of the season. Yeah, they're still playing it as much as possible, even in games.
You can take it slow for the first half and ramp it up in the fourth quarter. This is the ultimate Kawhi test where they've slow played it the entire season. He didn't play in 2024, and he finally came on in January. That's what they wanted to do. This is the first time they've done that in his career. So I don't know. I'm not a doctor, but it just seems like this is the best version of Kawhi's comeback. Maybe, perhaps. Who knows? It's really early to say, especially when he shoots an air ball. He shot an air ball in this game. Rare. Yeah.
I mean, he's always shooting it flat, but rarely an air ball. Yeah. He somehow just lasers every shot in. No arc to it. Yeah. Friends like 12 feet away. Josh Hart, also a weird one. First possession of the game. Also like 12 feet away. He just was caught sort of in between push shot, floater. What am I doing here? Two bad air balls. I don't know which one is worse. I can't. I couldn't decide. It's a very, very difficult decision for me.
As I went to bed. You got some sleep. Didn't keep you up. No, I'm still thinking about it. Yeah. Any other takeaways from last night's NBA action? We had Porzingis scoring 30. Celtics crushed the Suns 132-102. Seventh straight victory for Boston. Wizards...
They beat the 76ers in a game that probably not a lot of people were watching. And then Orlando Robinson scored 23 for the Raptors in a big win over the Nets that probably not a lot of people were watching. Do you have any takeaways from any of these games that people weren't watching? The Sixers are on a generational tank run right now. They're 4-23 in their last 27 games, throwing it back to the process winning percentages, like literally 15% of their games. Yeah.
In that time frame, they have lost to the Wizards, the Pelicans, the Raptors, the Spurs, the Blazers, the Heat, and the Nets twice. Those are all the other top 10 teams in lottery odds right now. Their only tank win, they beat my Jazz earlier this month. And it's like a new guy alert every single night for the Philadelphia 76ers. Marvin Bagley's brother Marcus played against the Pelicans. Some guy named Phillip Wheeler played 15 minutes last night.
Who are these guys? This is crazy. Phillip Wheeler. I think I went to a school with a guy named Phillip Wheeler. He played 15 minutes. Yeah. They just found him. You want to play? Sure. Why not? Spin the wheeler. You can play basketball. They should have that game at every NBA arena. We'll take you on. Spin the wheel if it lands on you play in the first, second, third, or fourth quarter. I like that idea. You can't out-tank the Sixers. Marcus Bagley.
Hey, Marvin, it's your brother Marcus. The Sixers just signed me. Well, they got more to lose than anyone, really, in this draft lottery in terms of trying to stay and keep their pick and not have it go to, of all teams, the Oklahoma City Thunder. So, yeah, they have leaned into it. I think our Raptors, Tass, I think they have... They're in their position when it comes to the draft lottery. They're going to be... You know, it depends, obviously, teams jumping and all that, but right now, when you go into the draft lottery, the seventh best odds to win it because...
and Brooklyn sort of too far ahead. I'm using that backwards. And then obviously the Raptors too far ahead of the Miami team and San Antonio teams and stuff like that. So that's where they are. Okay. So the Raptors are going to have a 7.5% chance at Cooper flag. How do you feel about that number? Do those numbers mean anything to you? This is like a severance question. Well, I hate this.
month and a half before the draft lottery. I don't like tuning into a Raptors game and seeing the good players play for the first and third quarters and sit in the fourth or just not play. My fantasy team is confused. Do you play Emmanuel quickly? Oh, no, he's not playing. Everybody's confused. So, yeah, up until May, it just stinks for these teams. But you and I, what was the over-under for the Raptors? 31 and a half? I think it was a little lower. 30 and a half, maybe. Yeah, I think that's right. They're at 26 wins right now.
So we need five at least. They're winning games. I know. They might hit the overhook. Other teams are better at tanking. Yeah. If you play your good guys. That's not happening. I mean, they're going to play a little bit. They did. Yeah, I mean, they did. We just happen to be playing a team that wants to lose even worse than we do. Yeah. Well, yeah, they destroyed the Wizards the other day when their guys played the first and third quarters because they're good enough. But poor Zingas' game, I think, taking over the Phoenix Suns is the important thing for
The guys that could win a championship. The Boston Celtics seeing Kristaps Porzingis balling.
Inside the arc, outside the arc. I mean, he hit six shots from inside the arc. He hit four shots from outside. He looks like an incredible player. He looks like an Eastern Conference Finals MVP to me. I've got to keep running with that prediction. I don't know why. All right, so those are last night's games. Let's hit the beach, though. Answer a few of your questions. You got the buzz. I got the rockets. You got the nuts. I got the chocolates. We got that chit-chat down pat, blah, blah, blah. You got that certain special. Jonathan Quagg.
Yeah, we're going to the beach. The only place to read your emails and your tweets. And the first one is from Soren. Heyo. Heyo. After Sabonis injured Tatum, Trey mentioned that it's too bad that they aren't starring in Starting 5 this year. That got me thinking. The producers must be kicking themselves for missing out on Jimmy Butler's story this year, too.
Who else would have made for the most interesting storylines this season so far? Greetings from Amsterdam. Again, that's from Soren. That's a fun question. Yeah, Jimmy Butler and Tatum and Sabonis in the first season of Starting Five. Not this season, which they're currently filming. That is going to star Jalen Brown, Kevin Durant, Shea Gildas-Alexander, Tyrese Halliburton, and James Harden. That's season two.
which you'll be watching before the start of next season. If you do partake in this. But it's a good point here. I mean, Jimmy, this would have been perfect if he was here and then we had the Tatum and Sabonis thing. But is there anyone else you would have loved to seen in this season two being filmed right now? I mean, I got my own starting five. Let's hear it. Chet Holmgren for Serial Gilded Alexander. Okay. Though, I mean, you're getting the same stuff, basically. Neither got... I was trying to look for the biggest personality on the Thunder. Yeah.
I don't know who it is. That's just a great question. It's not Shay. I mean, his main personality quirk is posting captions on Instagram. Yeah. Getting fits off. At least all you get from this is Shay's MVP season, but you're right. You're right. The thing with Chet, I think, is that you got the parts like with him, uh,
meeting isaiah hartenstein how are they gonna work together he had a big injury missed a bunch of time i think that's pretty interesting as well and i do like having a uh a guy from the thunder on this team um so chet i also got demar de rosen uh i don't know that we need a king for the second time in a row but he was like peripherally involved in the kendrick lamar and drake beef and i would like to see that part of demar de rosen's life and i guess when zach levine shows up like oh that
I thought we weren't teammates anymore. Awkward. And it's kind of like a, you know in White Lotus how they have people who played like a small part in one season come back and have a bigger part in the next season? That would be like Sabonis. He was big in season one, but he's just kind of a peripheral guy in season two. I like getting Luca and Anthony Davis both involved. So I want Kyrie Irving as my guy.
Because he's had them both as teammates. Interesting. They're in Dallas, and it's been an interesting season for them as well. I wanted somebody from the Detroit Pistons. Malik Beasley is my guy. Oh, yeah, a little dancing. Yeah, how'd you decide on that dance? The wiggle. When did you learn to salsa like that, Malik Beasley? And then finally, Jared McCain from the Philadelphia 76ers.
He only really played for like a month, but it was a fun month and he's still funny. Yeah. Like on Instagram and his YouTube stuff. Yeah. He's good. He's an interesting, fun character. Okay. So that's your new starting five producer, Trey Kirby. Yep. Recasting. You got anyone you want to add?
I would add LaMelo Ball to it because, number one, on the floor, the one-legged three-point shots, people love it. I'm sort of pandering to voters. He had the most votes of Eastern Conference guards in the entire world. Kids love him. This guy is from the world. This guy played in Australia. I'm getting people to watch from all parts of the world. Unfortunately, his dad had...
where he had his foot amputated. So I'm not sure if LeVar would want to partake, but he could if he'd like to. He likes to be on camera, so I think he would want to partake. I think LaMelo Ball would be an interesting guy. And then I have just a secondary storyline. I like the random storylines
of Stephen Adams and Reed Shepard. They seem to have this weird chemistry going on together. They just went to the Houston Rodeo. I saw this clip. And Stephen Adams said that Reed Shepard has a very punchable face. So that's funny. You know, the mustache of Reed Shepard was...
prominent at the beginning of the season and then it disappeared and it came back. So that whole storyline, just the growing of the mustache, I think could be decent. So there's some stuff. There's some stuff to get this thing improving season to season, I think. Season one was quiet. Yeah.
Yeah, it was. There was not a lot of buzz about season one. Maybe season two will come in better. I think it's the timing, the release of it. I think it was an issue. If this was coming out as the season was going on, we might have something. If it was a little more hard knocks, it would be very difficult to pull off. I know you weren't the biggest starting five fan.
The timing is bad. Yeah. I don't want to watch a documentary about something that just happened. Same reason I haven't watched Court of Gold, but like I used to love... That's about a thousand times better than Starting Five. A thousand. Did you watch Starting Five? Yeah. And I just turned it off. No. It sucked. Yeah. Okay. Well, nonetheless... I watched the entire thing of Court of Gold in like two days because it's that good. My number one criticism would be too many sports documentaries, period.
That's the number one thing. But think about drives that survive. I watched that all the time until I started watching Formula One regularly, and then I'm like, I don't need this anymore. Yeah, that's what people have said. Starting five is not for us, NBA sickos. It's for people that are more maybe casual or want to get hooked on the NBA. Right, exactly. I'll add one name, though, to what would have been a good person to be following this season. Victor Weminyama. Because he's coming off the iconic 11th.
Olympic run, obviously that gold medal game against USA. He scored 50 points in mid-November. He had 10 blocks in a game right before Christmas. He went for 42 and 18 on Christmas Day in Madison Square Garden. Soon after, was it like three days after he's out playing chess in the rain with random fans? Yep.
He's announced for an All-Star for the first time. They played in Paris. So you have that whole angle against the Pacers for a couple games. And then unfortunately, his season is cut short with the blood clot. So there's a lot there to me in basically half a season because he's been out for a while. So I would have added Wenbenyama. Sort of surprised that he wasn't actually one of the guys. Maybe the Spurs were like, no, we don't want cameras here. Or maybe he's doing his own thing. Yeah, it's always good. There's a lot of these out there. Yeah.

All right, next question here. Another AO. On March 19th's show, Skeets mercilessly and justifiably bashed the pathetic Hornets and made the statement, quote, imagine playing to see these games in person. Or imagine paying. Did I say playing? I think I did. Imagine paying to see these games in person. Well, is it equally painful if you are being paid, albeit not a lot, to attend every Hornets home game?
Interesting. This is what I've done for the last 20 home games while working data capture for a betting app. Name redacted. Okay. My question, what would it take for you to go to every home game of your nut dust bowl team? Turn up. Love you guys. Jeff. That's from Sam, AKA Sam likes eggs. So the nut dust bowl teams that we have, we're trying to avoid picking the absolute worst team in the NBA. Um,
It's a race between Trey and I. Yeah, a race. I mean, throw up the standings. JD's got them here. Yeah, it's a great race between you and Trey. You're basically tied in the win column. Jazz have played one more game, so I guess, you know, Trey right now losing 16-57. You have the Wizards. You pivoted from Charlotte to the Wizards at some point. Yeah.
You suggested it, Skeets, and I said, all right. I guess the Hornets aren't all that exciting. And then I got the Pelicans, so I'm okay. I got four more wins with 20 wins. That looks like a lot. That looks like a ton. That looks like a ton for us. So this is interesting, this email, though. What would it take for you to go to every home game of this bad team, essentially? Right, so what would it take for you to go to every Wizards game? Yeah, it was a very tough question. What would get me to go to the phone booth? I mean, I would just be...
As dorky as possible. If they gave me a full Wizards get-up, like full pants, zip-up, real jersey underneath there. I forgot I got to put shorts underneath as well. I would take that and go to each and every game dressed up as that. Hoping to get in like you're Philip Wheeler? No, no.
Nah, I wouldn't want to embarrass anybody. I would want to cheer for the team. I just like having the zip-ups, more so than the shorts and jersey and everything. But I just like to be in the uniform. That's it. That would be enough. I would attend every game wearing that. Solid. It's a solid trade.
Yeah. Hey, Wizards, get at us. We can make this happen. We can send TAS to Washington. Well, yeah. Oh! We didn't think about the travel. Who's paying for that? Well, they could. Maybe they will. Yeah, well, okay. That's true. Just follow the Wizards' final 10 games. It'd be really weird.
Where are you going? How are you going to get out to every single Utah Jazz game here? My one was honestly pretty similar. Oh, really? It's got a lot more caveats to it. You have to go to the first 40 home games, and then if you're there from opening tip...
Till the buzzer going off at the end of the game for all 40 of those home games for game 41, you get the full Tony Romo experience. Okay. So you're getting the jersey. You're getting the shorts. You're getting the pants. You're getting the jacket. You get to be in the locker room pregame. You get to go through stretches. You get to lift weights. You get to go through pregame warmups. You get to do everything that Tony Romo did way back when with the Dallas Mavericks.
And look, the Jazz last game at home is the Oklahoma City Thunder. They're probably not playing for anything at that point. The Jazz aren't playing for anything at that point.
You might get a minute. Okay. All we want is to act like we're on the team. If you make me go to 40 games for a team that's not trying to win, at least let me help you not try to win. My answer for this is, and I'm thinking just for this final home stretch here, like these 10 or 11, 12 games, whatever the Pelicans have left. I guess it's a level up from what you're asking for, Taz. I want courtside seats.
for the rest of those games. Either on the road or at home. That's what I want. That would get me out. Simple as that. Feet touching wood. Center court. I'll watch any game. I'll watch any game, honestly, if I'm sitting that close at the professional level. So that's all it would take. I'll fly myself there. Those are expensive tickets. Even in New Orleans.
Are they? Well, not even nothing compared to like everywhere else. My buddy Grish literally just like a month ago drove to New Orleans to fulfill his bucket list item of sitting courtside. He took his son. I mean, it was still, you know, it was probably a thousand bucks. But it's usually like ten thousand bucks. Yeah. He said it was awesome. Yeah, people are always looking for those tickets in New Orleans as the cheapest possible. Sure.
courtside seat. Usually there. So that's all you got to pony up. And I'm there! Final one here on the beach. Hey, NoDunks, I was looking at a box score at 1 in the morning, as one does, and I was shocked to see that Anthony Gill was still in the league with the Wizards. Now, I consider myself to be a pretty diehard NBA fan, but the only reason I recognize this name is because I've looked him up enough times to have a vague idea. But alas...
He just reached 225 career games played, which puts him ahead of some notable names like Zion, Dino Raja, Hashim Thabit, and Kalina Azebueke, among others.
That's from Angelo. Trey, we'll start with you here.
Who has surprised you that either is still playing in the league a lot longer than you thought or maybe did if you want to go in the past? I got all current guys. You want to hear them? Yeah. Alec Burks. He's played 782 career games. He was drafted before we moved from Toronto to the United States. Career high, 34 points. Never been a regular starter for a team. Never been a guy for a team.
He's barely, he's like a dude for his entire career. And they just had 17 points in a game. Like Alec Burks, they'll just dust him off every once in a while and score 15. I can't believe he's still in the NBA. He also came into the league and he's one of those guys that looked old. Yes. Like when he immediately came in. Alec Burks. Alec Burks. Yeah, one of my favorites. All right, Garrett Temple. 768 career games, a career winning percentage of 45%.
Great locker room guy, though. Great locker room guy. Well, that's funny you mention James Ferber. I gotta give some respect to Garrett Temple. Recently, he said, It's bulls**t. Fans want teams to lose to help lottery odds. You're right, man. It is bulls**t.
Anyways, I like that guy. Just sign Garrett Temple and you'll be in the lottery. James Herbert wrote a profile at CBS about how to have a long career, being a good teammate and all that stuff. That was in 2019. Wow. Yeah.
So he's still five years later. Five years later. He ain't going anywhere. Just well-liked. I'm always reminded of Garrett Temple because, obviously, I follow the Raptors on social media, and you know how, like, most teams, they show the guys' fits, their tunnel fits. Yep. They always show Garrett Temple, and he's always rocking a great suit. Guy comes suited and booted to every game.
Very professional. I believe it. And so it always stops in my tracks. You know, you're sliding. Oh, cool big t-shirt. Cool big jeans. Cool whatever. And you're like, oh, look at this guy. He's a pro's pro, man. He's a pro's pro. Well dressed. Daryl Temple. Doug McDermott. I have.
We saw him buying razors at our first summer league at the Cosmopolitan. 692 games later, he's the master poof of the Kings. Yeah. His hair got very tall in the past few seasons. Alex Lenn has played 689 career games. He was drafted in 2013. He basically got to play one game with the Lakers, and they're like, nope. It's hilarious to see him standing in huddles now.
I remember when he was the answer for them way back. I'm sorry. That's the real guy you want on your team if you don't want to be good. Interesting. I wonder what his career winning percentage is compared to Garrett Temple. I can't be good. All right. Corey Joseph is my last guy. That's a good one. 858 games for Corey Joseph. He was in the 2011 draft. He never averaged 10 points per game in a season. Never averaged five assists per game in a season. Never started 41 games. Pretty crazy.
Corey Joseph. Now he plays for the Magic. Tristan Thompson also still around. He was in that draft. 779 games. Part of the early Canadian Revolution. I know what you're thinking. Where's Mike Cabongo? Nice one. He's an assistant coach for the Salt Lake City Stars. Yeah, that's what I was wondering. That's what you were wondering. Kelly Olenek's still playing too. Even though, you know, he's a decent player, so he should be playing. And he was a Raptor, but now he's on the Pelicans where...
I find a lot of these guys at the end of their contracts or the end of their careers are on these bad teams. Like the Charlotte Hornets, you could make cases for a bunch of them. Unfortunately, Seth Curry ain't playing like he used to, but he's still playing ball. Taj Gibson, the guy's been playing absolutely forever. He's still on the Charlotte Hornets. And Jay Crowder, he's also still in the league, which I just forget about. But he's on the Sacramento Kings. He's a king. And he's still playing.
I was looking up Anthony Gill recently too because I was looking up everybody on bad teams. So I hear what you're saying, Angelo, but I've been thinking about Anthony Gill. I've been thinking about him a lot. You could see him next year. He could be playing next year. He's signed to a, I think it's a partially guaranteed contract. I was looking up Len there while you guys were talking. He's a good guy.
He did come into the league with the Suns, and they were actually, in his first year, they were a good Suns team. They were solid. But then there was a lot of losing. He was on a lot of those teams on the Suns that didn't win a lot of games. Then he went to Atlanta for a year. I think they won 29 games. And then, you know, he bounced around a lot, so it gets a little, you know, clouded there because he's sort of on the Kings and he's on the Raptors for a minute, he's on the Wizards. He did have some success with Sacramento when he got back there because the Mike Brown Kings did win games.
They won games. They didn't go to the playoffs once. Yeah. They won games. They had two winning seasons, I should say. But for the most part, he's lost a lot. No, his career winning percentage is 40%. 33 win pace for his career. Wow. Okay. I was right. Way worse than Garrett Temple. That's crazy. And I mean, he plays more. Yeah, he plays a lot more. Yeah. Well, not anymore. I mean, no. This guy doesn't play anymore either. Started half the season. Number five pick. True.
All right. Sorry for crapping on Alex Len there for a little bit, but it had to be done. Great questions. Keep sending them in. NoDunksAtTheAthletic.com. You can tweet them in at NoDunksInc. Leave them in the YouTube comments, all that stuff. Pick them tonight. Where are we going? We're going to Miami where they're hosting the Atlanta Hawks. I had to go there because they could be playing in the play-in. It's possible. Want to see this rivalry happen?
And what happens here, it's basically a pick-em. The Miami Heat are favored by one and a half points. And three of us believe that the Miami Heat will take care of business. Only one of us, Esh, going with the hometown Atlanta Hawks. Makes sense. Esh is a seasoned seat holder. You're the one wearing a Hawks shirt. I am. Yeah, we thought maybe you would go with one. It's a beauty. It is. It's a beauty. But I'm taking Miami. They have turned the corner here. Maybe. Maybe.
And they look better. Two straight. Two straight, yeah. Could be a streak. That's right. Two's not a streak. Three is. They're trying to get a winning streak going here. All right. Hawks heat. One and a half. We need them to win by two or more. And let's be honest. If the Heat win here tonight, looks like Esh is losing the month.
Because March is long, but it's not that long. No, there's only three days, including today, left in terms of games played. Ash needs a Hawks win tonight. Or at least lose by one point, and that would still be a victory for him. Alright, we'll call it there. We've got more shows coming up. One o'clock, maybe even a little bit before, we'll be recapping last night's Survivor episode. It was episode five, and it was a tearjerker.
A very emotional scene we've got to break down. And a lot of other things happening. So we'll talk about that on No Buffs, on YouTube feeds, on podcast feed. Those links in the show notes. So go click on those and join our No Buffs Survivor team. And then tonight in Atlanta at 7 p.m. Eastern, we're at the Seven Stages Theater eating a bunch of pizza, talking hoops.
with all of you that are coming out to join us live. Doors open at 6.30. Now, for the podcast listener, for you people watching on YouTube that don't obviously live in Atlanta and won't be out to the live show, the plan is to take tonight's show and post it tomorrow on Friday. So no new drop podcast tomorrow, but hopefully we'll have that live show up for you on Friday at some point. If you like listening to people eat pizza, you're going to love that show.
Just chomping away. How many full slices of pizza do you think you're going to eat tonight? Can you remind me of Savage Pizza? Big slices? Normal slices? Standard slice. I mean, you're not getting like a big whitey New York style. Just like a standard. Probably eight inches on the curve, on the radius. Big crusts?
It's not like a thin crispy. Yeah. Hand toss style, I would say. Okay. I go three. That's a lot.
That's a lot, but I'm willing to starve myself until then. Are you asking me how many pizza slices will I eat over the entirety of the night or just during the live show? Okay, okay, on camera. Oh, on camera? I won't even eat one full slice. Oh, wow. No. What do you consider a slice? Like, if you toss the crust, is that a full slice? No, you gotta eat the crust. No.
No, no, no. We're not children. Hey, children are allowed to be there? Yeah, that's fine. Toss it to a kid. But I'm not counting it as a slice if you're like nibbling up to the crust. You plan on eating more on camera, obviously. One per segment. I mean, Tabasco will be pumped to hear that. That's four slices, half of a savage. Half a savage. Hopefully half a bottle. This guy's going half a savage tonight and half a tab.
Anyway, we're going to have a blast tonight, if you can't tell. So hopefully we'll have that up tomorrow. Hit the like button, subscribe, podcast listeners, five-star ratings and reviews. We'll see you later today with Survivor and a little bit later at the live show. Until then, Clipper Bros. You heard it here first. Have a great time. Turn up. Love you guys. Awesome. Thanks for joining us. And remember, podcast listeners, that show will be definitely dedicated to you. That will be for you.
Yes and no. It's more of a visual thing, but I think, yeah, it's not. That joke was sort of for Leo, go on, because it ain't for you. Let's be honest. Is Leo coming? You think, should we fly him in? No, we're not letting him in if he shows up. No, I'm kidding. Brace the day, people. He sticks around to the very end.
