Ukraine pushes further into Russia. Fox News. I'm Sue Guzman, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shedding a little more light on his country's military incursion into Russian territory. We have the latest from Fox's Jill Nadeau. Ukraine's President Zelensky said his military incursion into Russia's Kursk region is meant to create a buffer zone.
It was the first time Zelensky had clearly stated the aim of the operation. Zelensky said in his own words, "...it is now our primary task in defense of operations overall to destroy as much Russian war potential as possible, so far as forces have taken out a bridge and struck another one, potentially disrupting supply lines for Russian forces."
Zelensky's also asking allies to lift restrictions so his country can use Western weapons inside of Russia. Till NATO, Fox News. A Georgia sheriff's deputy has been killed in an ambush in a small town northeast of Atlanta, identified as 30-year-old Brandon Cunningham. The gunman later found dead. Eric Mock is with Atlantis Fox 5. 30-year-old deputy Brandon Cunningham with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office succumbed to a gunshot wound at the hospital.
Now, the sheriff's office is asking for prayers. In fact, here's Sheriff Gary Gulledge here talking about what they need from the community right now. I know what Paulding County is and I know the people here. I know what you'll do. I ask that you please keep this family in your prayers. We are being told that he worked for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office for four years, two years in their jail, and then he had just been a patrol deputy for two years. Cunningham leaves behind two young children. The Sheriff's Office says it is the first in the line of duty death in its history. The woman in the home was wounded. She is being treated at a nearby hospital.
U.S. Secretary of State in the Middle East as he continues to push for a ceasefire agreement in the Israel-Gaza war. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is arriving in Israel today for talks as those ceasefire negotiations continue. America's top diplomat looking to move the ball forward amid concerns that Israel and Hamas still don't agree on a path forward. Negotiations did wrap up in Doha on Friday after two days of intense but reportedly productive talks.
They will resume again later this week in Cairo. A joint statement was released by the Egyptians, the Qataris, and the Americans saying the meetings were serious, constructive, and conducted in a positive atmosphere, although that description came from the parties that are not directly involved in the decision-making.
