Many of the slang words young people are using these days are borrowed from other languages, other cultures, and other countries. Examples include British terms such as “lads” as a synonym to men and “ savage” from Black culture to describe someone who is not holding back.
Slang words come in and out of style every few months. This cycle is further sped-up due to the speed at which social media distributes the new terms, making adoption of these terms a lot faster.
