President-elect Donald Trump has already made history, choosing the first ever female chief of staff, Susie Wiles. Wiles is a veteran of Florida politics and is widely credited with helping the president win Florida back in 2016. She's been working with Trump for the last three years, serving as his 2024 campaign manager.
Wiles has been called Trump's most trusted advisor. Here's Trump praising her and Chris LaCivita on election night after his victory. Let me also express my tremendous appreciation for Susie and Chris, the job you did. Thank you.
Susie likes to stay sort of in the back, let me tell you. The Ice Baby, we call her the Ice Baby. I just want to thank, obviously, President Trump for this journey. It was a great one. We had the best team and, of course, even my boss, Susie Wiles, the best.
Several witnesses testified this week in the trial of Marine veteran Daniel Penny, who's been charged in the death of Jordan Neely. Daily Wire reporter Amanda Prestigiacomo has been following the New York case. One witness recalled feeling relief when Penny restrained Neely, who she described as exhibiting threatening and satanic behavior. The witness said, quote, there was a moment where I truly thought I was going to die. Another witness said he poured water on Neely's head when Neely was on the ground,
and Penny told him to stop. Jurors also saw new footage of Neely on the subway car being attended to by police. The judge reminded people in the courtroom to stay composed following emotional reactions. The trial is expected to last several weeks. This episode is brought to you by ZBiotics. Jerome Powell says he will not resign as Federal Reserve Chairman. Daily Wire senior reporter Cabot Phillips has the details. On Thursday, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell was asked by reporters if he would resign if Donald Trump asked him to do so. Some of the president's elect advisors have suggested that you should resign. If he asked you to leave, would you go? No. Can you follow up on it? Do you think that legally you're not required to leave? No.
Powell emphasized that the president does not have the authority to fire or demote him.
Trump has said that he would allow Powell to finish out his term, which ends in 2026, but has stated that the president should have some say in monetary policy. Iowa pollster Ann Selzer is promising to investigate what went wrong with her famous poll. Daily Wire deputy managing editor Tim Rice has the latest. Selzer's Des Moines Register Mediacom Iowa poll showed Kamala Harris with a three-point lead over Donald Trump just days before the election. The poll sparked optimism within the Harris camp,
who took it to mean the VP might have had strong support in the Midwest. Trump went on to win the state comfortably on Election Day, leading many to question Seltzer's methodology. Seltzer has promised a full review to understand the discrepancy in her polling.
Shoemaker Steve Madden announced Thursday it's taking steps to reduce reliance on Chinese imports by up to 45% over the next year. CEO Edward Rosenfield said the brand is accelerating plans to source from countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Mexico, and Brazil. The company is also exploring U.S. production options. Madden's shift will help the company prepare for potential tariffs on Chinese goods while supporting local and global factory operations.
Other brands, including Tapestry, the parent company of Coach Bags, are also adjusting their manufacturing strategies, which could bring more production to American soil. And hours after the election was called for Trump on Wednesday, the Biden administration moved to lock up large parts of an oil reserve on Alaska's North Slope.
The 1002 oil reserve was approved for exploration and drilling in Trump's first term, but the Biden administration has moved to reinstate environmental protections over miles of the reserve. The move has drawn cheers from green groups and protests from local Alaskans who say the regulations will limit their economic opportunities. The mayor of North Slope Borough told CNN the move says, quote, "'Our voices and lived experience are insufficient.'"
