the dichotomy of our podcast.

I figured, you know what, that was blowing my skirt up at the moment, the idea of that. So that's to your favorite expressions from you. You, i've heard IT before, but you used IT recently. And in a ticket.

I used IT on the car right home the other night because drew loves to say that things didn't blow his skirt up and it's so funny because drew doesn't .

wear skirt so I just because I like that yeah well, you know what? Doesn't blow my skirt up, Jerry brute, he also doesn't not blow my skirt. But it's a fascinating true crime, is a fascinating case.

It's a horrific case and it's only going to get worse. And part two is really gonna take IT there. So I just need everybody about i'm .

just really looking forward to him getting apprehended because I that's not always my favorite of the story is in the police clothing and I don't know how that happens here. So pop rester.

So when we last left you um was when we he had already a kidnap and murdered lindis lausen in jan White. So he's already escalated to horrific acts and he's doing these. I mean, he's struggling.

He's hanging them up by their neck. He's dressing them in other women clothing that he has stolen all around his career. He's taking ones of photographs. He's taken one of their feet and captain, and he dumped them in river afterwards and waste them down like he's fucked in brutal do.

He was going to try to make a paper weight out of one of their.

and that was at the last time he's gona do that. So yeah, oh god. So on the afternoon of march twenty seventh nineteen sixty nine, nineteen year old Karen sprinkle left her home and SHE was on her way to the mayor and Frank department store in salem organ ah that day he had made plan seven lunch with her mom and to do some shopping for spring clothes because he was going be going back to school and he wanted to have like an edicts to her wardrobe, a SHE actually big plans of a medical career as a doctor.

And he was brilliant SHE was so smart SHE had everything going for SHE graduated second highest in her high school class like wow, SHE was going on places. Ah Jerry brutus had also gone out that after just driving around doing his disgusting tool thing, he was looking for a woman particularly near the mayor in Frank department store. That's when he spotted a specific woman.

This woman was not caring. He said later that he couldn't take his eyes off of this woman. He said, quote, I had to have her. He told detectives leader, but by the time Jerry had parked his car in the, they was like a multitiered parking garage. A by the time he had found a spot in practice car, the woman had disappeared inside the store, so he was this chance for her. We will not know who that woman is, but i'm like somebody out there has no idea possibly that they were a second way.

Like you have to wonder how often that happened.

That's a thing that like something just you know something get intervention yeah like some kind of intervention just gets in the way yeah yeah so as Jerry was walking back to his car, he was going back to his car to leave like he was going to be later, he was like, miss my chance of living, right? But as he's walking back his car, just by chance, he notices Karen sprinkle getting out of her car. No, no.

And he later said, I didn't like her shoes, but he was a pretty girl with long, dark care. Now, Jerry in Karen were walking towards one another. SHE was headed to the inside, who, like the department store, and he was headed to the parking lot.

And when SHE got to the front door of the department store, he suddenly grabbed her by the shoulder out of nowhere, just walking by a dude. And he just grabbed you and hear she's almost in the storch. She's literally. So what IT is is there's like a stairway that goes from the parking lot garage in two right to the front door.

okay? So it's like the stairway that is just like door at the bottom of the stair that goes right into the department store and right right here and he was going down there and he was like, I was literally like seconds away from that door and it's like, nobody so thing no, nobody on. So he grabbed by the shoulder and he shoved the barrel of a pistol.

Interview my god. And he told Karen to come with him quietly, and he wouldn't shoot her. So he did exactly that because I can imagine position.

Well, you honestly, I feel like you just have to comply when somebody has a gun to your anywhere on your body.

My personal advice to you is never let someone take you to a second location. Yeah, do what if you can do whatever, and that's what I like. Do whatever you can to stop that from happening, which also caring also did try to stop that from him.

He fought like her. yeah. So do that. Like, don't let somebody take you to a second location that is far worse than something happening to break there. yeah. So kick screamed whatever you got to make, the most noise you can possibly make if something like this, and literally the most noise scratched I balls and whatever you got to cream fire, yes, scream exactly.

So because it's the second location when they get you in a car or are taking you somewhere else, that it's going to be a lot harder when they have the up her hand in a second location. Yeah, now you're somewhere where you weren't initially going so they can track you, right? But what he didn't know and what he had no way of knowing was that the pistol he was using was a toy. Oh, no. But that .

looks like of cause the moment.

So when Karen failed to shop for lunch that afternoon, her mother became alarmed very quickly. And SHE waited more than an hour at the restaurant. SHE searched around, SHE checked the parking lot, and that's where he discovered current's car locked and abandoned.

Curran's father lucas reported her missing later that day, and police opened in investigation pretty immediately because they were like, SHE wasn't running away. SHE was coming to meet me for lunch like her car is here. Something happened.

The first lead came in quickly when a Young woman matching parents description was actually seen at the southern pacific railroad station with two men. IT wasn't Karen right? The matter description, one of these people bought tickets the same from cisco for all three of them, and the ticket clerk remembered the three Young people until detectives.

IT didn't look like the girl was being forced to accompany them, so he was willing to go there. But current's mother was like, they were really going with this lead and kranz mother was like, no, he wasn't running away. Like this isn't.

And please, everybody fucked her.

He said to them something happened to that girl from the time SHE parked her car on the rap before he could get into the store. And he just knew he was like, SHE make IT into that, into that store. Now, once Karen was taken back to Jerry brutal, his basement of horse, he sexually assaulted her.

Then he forced her to dress in the stolen underwear and shoes while he photographed her. He took a lot of photographs of Karen. He made her change several times. This is a very long, drawn out, tortuous process for her. The photos are heartbreaking.

Yeah um because it's clear I mean it's just of her face, right but because they're obviously cropped IT yeah but it's clear that he is just in complete shock and doesn't know how to get out of situation yeah like it's a horrifying photo or just because of her face, not something I would want to see no, I don't recommend going to look for that but it's just it's awful what he did to these women because you can tell like what how do you get out of that? You're in his basement if no a what do you do and it's like you don't know if you comply. If you if I comply, maybe he's going to let me leave like he just wants this.

Yeah, there's so many things that must be running through your head. When he was done photographing her against her will, he looped a rope around current neck through the other end over the hoist in the basement ceiling, because he had created this whole like looping police system now, but he could hoist someone up. He, then he stood her up just enough for her feet to not touch the ground, literally saw her toes were scraping the ground. yeah. And then he left her to strangle to death while he went upstairs and watched cartoons and spent time with his family.

So they were just upstairs while .

this was going on. Okay, so he just went upstairs, spend time with his families. Kid's wife watched cartoons. Well, there is a woman struggling slowly to death in their basement. Uh, I don't .

know how you, I don't know how the human brain can allow you to hurt somebody like that. And I also hurt your family at the same time like that. Yeah, that's fucking with your family too.

Oh yeah. I like that just and just like such conflicting pieces of your brain, right? How are they turned on at the same time? I don't think I don't know about the athletes and jury balis brain.

Well, later he returned to the basement, who repeatedly violate curran's body. Yeah, yeah. He had died SHE strangle to death. By that point, he had developed a routine, so he spent the next few days photographing her body, just like he had done, violating IT. Another ways can remember, he is a negative ilic.

And before disposing of currents body, he sliced off both of her breath because he wanted to try to make the paper waits again. When the time came to get rid of her body, Jerry waited her down with mechanical parts like an engine from, like an old car and stuff yeah. And dumped her in the long term river. I don't know what happened with the paperweights of IT all.

I think it's Better that we don't.

Yeah, I did. I didn't go too far into whether they worked or not, whether he was able to .

finally do IT for his sake, I hope no.

Yeah, definitely not. So several months would pass before parents body was discovered in may. By then, he had been in the water way too long for the medical examiner to get much information about her remains. Her cause of death was listed as death by trauma tic as fixation.

Well, when you so obviously like IT becomes harder because like you got water logged, will your teeth to send a great faster and water too?

No, no, your teeth pretty much hang out at the same. yeah. Now, unlike the other bodies who were discovered without clothing, Karen was actually fully closed when SHE was found.

So he redressed her.

obviously so yeah IT but was what was even weirder was the clothing didn't belong to her and IT clearly didn't belong to her. Is that his wife? The sizing of the undergarments, for example, were much larger than anything can owner would reasonably be wearing OK.

Um also when the medical examiner moved the thirty eight d size bra, which was not her size quote, sodden lumps of Brown paper towelling dropped out, revealing that Jerry had cut off Carry this is when they found out that he'd cut off carr's breath and then stuff ed a bra to make her a chest appear larger with paper towels. And all this clothing was clothing taken from other women. Okay, in some of IT was like other women he had murdered.

Yeah, he dressed him. Yeah, yeah. That's just you for now, less than a month past before Jerry was back out on a prow less than a month, April twenty first to Jerry attack to twenty four year old and Sharon wood in a parking garage as he was leaving work, he walked right up behind her and put a pistol in her back, telling her that if he didn't scream, he wouldn't shoot her.

But he said, fuck that. And SHE fought real hard. Italia SHE basically was like, I was not. SHE was having a bad day and he was like, I was in no. So he tried to choke her out.

He put an arms around her, like, and literally try to put her in like a sleeper hold. And SHE just bit down super heart on his hands, like, drew blood from his thumb like me, and just screamed. SHE just kept on screaming. Unluckily, a car drove as this was happening, and he was able to get away because he ran.

You imagine how traumatizing that experience would be? How do you move on from? How do you ever park your fucking car in a parking ground public, or do anything by yourself .

like I would never want to be alone again? No, I don't that i'm .

sure that happens a lot with survivors of attacks like this, like they probably don't want to do anything about thems.

absolutely. And luckily he, so he ran away. And then on the afternoon of April twenty second, the next day, next day, he tried to abduct a fifteen year old girl in four hundred, his car.

He is disgusting, but he got away like he was able to run away. He also tried to kidnap a fucking twelve year olds on her way to school. Oh my god, literally grab term was trying to throw her in his car. And SHE saw a neighbor or working in the yard. She's under her way to school, a twelve year old, yeah, like a six or seven and greater, literally is a saw neighbor working in her yard and was able to break free from him and run directly into this neighbor's arms.

Like to talk .

about timing. yes. And it's like what he was onna do this to a twelve year old.

What seems like he was trying to look for somebody like more easier to only take.

Ah that was one of the things they said about him later was if you put up too much of a fight with him, he would like like that would throw him after he he wanted the easy life thing or what he determined to be the easy thing.

So so I like they all thought, like most of them thought to some extent, you know I mean but I was like if you somehow were able to like get something else volt or get because as soon as someone else became involved he was a little yeah like he was a little bitch, right? So it's like if he got you alone, he was more likely to overpower you no matter what. But if you could get someone else is attention or like break frees, somehow he was out of there. IT is just like a fucking twelve. You are going to bring a twelve old back to your fucking basement of horrors.

I can literally have two children.

your father like that.

Disgusting and horrific no matter what. But you add the layer of the fact that he has his own children. He is.

I mean, I don't think that enough credit is put on how bad this guy is yeah, I think he gets overshadow a lot by like, oh, he's the shoe guy yeah like he's the shoe fetish guy but there's a and that's like, oh, what a weird part of this story and like, yeah, that's real weird. Do you know what else he did? Like it's just like you got ta look at what this fucker did .

like he's grows off. He's a fucking neoh ilia h.

He's a fucking deam .

and it's create like we were just saying the the shoot thing definitely overtakes sorry because I don't I know who Jerry Bruce says. I've heard the story yeah but I actually forgot that he was an ecover ilia.

Yes, that's the and it's like this shoe thing is a big deal yeah of course because it's like he that is a massive part of his mythology and it's a massive part of what he fetishizes of what he does and that seems like why he became I mean, he he knew heard what he said with you with Karen springer SHE.

He said I didn't like her shoes, right but he was pretty yeah but like he he had to comment on the shoes like, I didn't like her shoes yeah so was a massive part of his pathology. So i'm not knocking the fact, but like that's a big part of this and I should be part of IT. But like I feel like he IT doesn't get known how bad he was.

He was discussed that yeah so after trying to abduct a twelve year olds and fails just one day later, you like desperate. On April twenty third, Jerry drove over the portland, where he spotted twenty two year old Linda Sally loading bags on into her car in the parking lot at the loyd center. Armed with that same toy pistol and now a fake police bag, he approached Linda and he flashed the badge, and he told her that he was a store detective with the lloyd center.

He was taking her into custody for shoplifting. what? So Linda was like, what do you target? I didn't shoplift anything.

Like, no, I like you have the wrong person, but he was very insistent, and he was always one to follow the rule. Yeah, he didn't go against authority. So SHE went with him.

Or you're not going to run away from what you think .

is a police answer and that's and of course not. And later, after his arrest, Jerry commented on this and said he didn't fight me at all. He just got in to my car.

Why would you? Because you were pretending to be detective or like making IT seem like you like I was so weird, shouldn't do anything. You're making IT seem like you're detective, which is the entire reason that you came up with the plan in the first.

Remember, this is in the sixties. It's like people like working just coming out of the fifty year. Are people taught to recite even now but it's like, yeah especially back then, you were taught to respect police officers, especially as a woman need to have a authority figures.

That's the thing. So it's like, of course, he did so annoying and SHE, apparently, according to him, remained completely silent. The whole drive SHE didn't even speak up when I was clear that they had passed the portland city limits and crossed in asylum.

Well, she's probably just trying to figure out .

how the fuck to get out of the turing complete up and terrified and still being like, is he a detective rushed the band, so they pulled into his home and he still didn't say anything in once he had LED lend into the basement workshop is what he called IT. He tied her up with rope and then went back into the house, have dinner with his family, what he was tied up.

And they just like they never heard screams or anything like that. I guess never .

heard struggles. I'm shocked by IT, to be honest. Not the kids obviously never heard anything which again, like we've see that up, I sure but this is just like wow because .

I feel a lot of times like when when somebody y's like I did, I didn't know anything is when there there wasn't happening in the when there aren't bringing back people that they're already killed. Yeah but the fact that he'd dragged the girl into baseman and tied her up and then was like, okay.

dinner time yeah, it's just trained. That's what's confusing to me is like he's bringing live women back to his house murder in his basement, right? And it's like there's times where there is like, you know, his wife is home and I like.

I mean, maybe this is just me like you hear a car pulled in the drive way. I look at my camera or before cameras I would look out the shades .

unless he's picking specific times or aline's at home when he pues in. So he just comes home and gets home and starts, he just walks up, is none the wiser you know what I mean? Yeah like it's possible.

No, definitely. It's just something like, dam. I also just another thing of how bold and brazen .

yeah yeah and how completely like having no, he's remarkable but he just walking upstairs and his dinner with his family knowing what's happening down somebody else's child is stars in his basement like it's you know me like that just fucked up. He's looking at his wife, a woman he claims to love, and has another woman downstairs in his basement like her. yeah.

So this article had dinner with his family, and then he just goes back downstairs to the basement. And Linda had actually freed herself from her ropes somehow. But he was just sitting there on the coach OK, and try to run away. You know, nothing like that. SHE likely believed he was going to let her go. Eventually he would bothered me about this is he made IT seem, and he had like a habit of doing this, where he would sit there with detectives and be like, so weird, he just said there should try to get a way, tried to use the phone. And it's like, I think what you're fAiling to tell us, you big piece of shit, is that you probably told her several times, if you just stay put on like and listen to what I say, you're going to go home to your family tonight, right? And it's like he's making IT seem like these dumb women didn't do anything.

Of course.

I killed her and it's like you, first of all, you told her you are the detective. So SHE probably had no fucking in clue what was going on and it's don't tell me that you didn't give her some kind of idea but if SHE just listened and didn't fight back, right, that you were going to let her go IT pisses me off so much because he did the thing was like, it's crazy. Got my car.

You flash a batch right course down town. This one is very they're all very unsettling and graphic, but this one just has only about a development into IT just um so he was SHE just kind of was sitting there when he came on stairs, probably hoping that he was just going to be like, okay, you can go get you home. IT was only one jury pulled out a big belt like a leather strap and tried to get IT around her neck that Linda lost IT, yeah.

SHE started resisting, kicking, scratching at every part of him that he could, which again, she's yelling, she's guiding, because nothing over her mouth to stop her from yelling in his home basement. yeah. But he was fighting the whole time, and he finally did get her around her neck and he strangled her to death.

But he fought hard yeah um he did what he did to all the other woman that he killed. He violated land's body. He photographed her and then he hung her up by her neck on the usual police system, her body.

And while he hung there, he placed needles into her rib cage on either side, why? And attached those two wires and an electrical current attached to a large battery. What in what he was hoping to do there was, he was hoping that by doing that, and like sending the electrical current through there, that he would make her body like jump or dance.

yeah. On the Polly, I like animals. What is some talking? weird? yeah.

And he didn't do that. I just burned her skin, which he was upset to find out. That was so sad. He reminds me of the hillside string stranglers with the the the usage of like electrical mentation like that and stuff and how they just in the way they.

Are so fucking call ice and called about IT later just being like what I want to see what would to happen. It's like this is a person. What are you doing? What's the fuck? So a few days later, Cherry waited lind's body down with another old engine that he could find and drop her body into the long term river as well, not far from where he had dumped Karen sprinkle his body.

And then he just went home now with the recent disappearances of jane Whitney and Karen n. Sprinkle, and the attempted abductions just a few days earlier, like one after the other, yeah, Linda sale's disappearance was taken pretty seriously right away. Like the other, the other woman, I feel like they were like, but it's a .

one but now they .

were like, o shit, these might, could be connected.

You have three.

It's like, okay, like start .

looking at IT not only three women who have turned up missing, but all other disappearances, other assaults and .

other exactly. Now, everyone who knew Linda described her as very stable and very reliable, hardly the type of person that would run off without telling anyone so finally they listen to people who knew her good um and also lind's car was discovered abandoned in a parking lot which definitely supported the theory that he was taken away from where he was and that he didn't run away with her now whether he was in a rush or was just careless, Jerry failed to notice how shallow the part of the water was where he dumped to in this remains about two weeks later, on may tenth, two men fishing on the long time forever notice something partially emerged in the water.

Okay, when they got closer, they realized IT was the partially nude body of a Young woman. Her remains had been tired, tired to an auto transmission, uh, that was tied using a nyon cord and copper wiring, uh, which he used for all of them. And that was gonna something that tied him to IT because he was, those are very specific things.

Nyon, cord? Copper wire? yes. Not like a regular rope. no. So by the time the body was discovered, decomposition and the effects of, you know, being in the water had made lind's face largely unrecognizable. And investigators thought I could actually have been current sprinkle at first.

And ironically, I was just two days later, while investigating that same area for evidence in land, in whoever this body was, that the sharif department divers also located current sprinklers body about fifty feet for more. Linda sali had been discovered, oh, wow. So Linda's body was identified through dental records OK, because that's how badly he was decomposed. Carr's body was tentatively identified by her mother through a description of her personal items, which is just horrified .

that hard breaking yeah detectives .

were glad to have some information to work with, but they couldn't ignore the fact that the similarities ties in the cases suggested that they were likely looking for one killer, not only where the bodies left in roughly the same area, but they also were killed and waited down in very similar ways. Also, they were mindful of the fact that jane Whitney had also disappeared under similar circumstances.

They can rule out the fact with the possibility that this was the same person and they had a serial killer. yeah. Now, in the days that follow, diverse, continue to calm that river. But looking for any additional evidence belonging to either or the women or anything else that matter, but didn't get anything else. A share of Charles rim told reporters on may fifteen s were sure there are no body and more bodies under the bridge.

The problem was, though, that they also didn't have a lot of leads to work with at this point, the lack of leads kind of, and detectives back to the drawing board a little bit. So they looked at the last time anyone had seen Linda and IT seemed impossible that her killer could have been abducted her like a brightly lit parking lot in the middle of the day. But honestly, he had, he had done in at least one other time, in the case of current sprinkle. So and IT is shocking.

Like, I understand why they were like, how the fuck did he just grab her and daylight and you know they're thinking like he couldn't grabbed her and he fought back and Brown daylight someone would have ve seen her but then they're like, and again, like that happened to Karen you never know so you just don't know but they said that um back at lawyers they talk to a clerk that was at the jewellery counter who had at last scene lda they ended up being the last person in new soldi live besides Jerry brutal yeah but this clerk said that he remembered Linda because IT happened to be a very slow day and he took a long time making up her mind so SHE just had remembered her yeah but that's all SHE could really tell her was just like, yeah ah SHE was in here right now. For months, investigators dug into every aspect of the victim's lives, just trying to find anything that they could connect them together, or that they could just figure out anybody connected them. Them they could do this, but they just kept coming up like dead end after dead end.

And then in mid d may, they finally got a break when an organ, an state university student, called police to report an incident. This incident was when a suspicious man had called this girl out of nowhere on may fourteenth in the sky gest after out on the date. okay? And he was like, I didn't know who he wants.

He was a man who called me. And I guess he said, I just back from vietnam and he had dialed her number at random. That's what he told her, that people and he wanted to ask her out on a date. He was like, you know what? Let's go out and SHE said.

you have no idea what I look like, you have no idea what my fucking name even is, and you want to go on a date yeah.

you good. But he said, I didn't know why, but I ve accepted in the day, and I said I would meet him. She's a college student so .

maybe he was just like.

he is a big believer in fate. Maybe I think that's why he was like.

you know.

maybe the soul IT was the six seven very different time, honestly. Me like, oh my god.

my future husband just called me. You'll like the stars have a line relative.

So the two met at the organ state dorm lounge, and the girl said, IT was a very awkward experience, which I imagine IT was I I hate .

that it's Jerry brute v. Ously that you met up. I love that he was just like.

what and SHE went to like a public place yeah you smart about you know SHE didn't go meet them like some secluded area or like a house or something yeah um so they made small talk briefly and then the man began telling her about his experience with new massage techniques. No grassie. And before SHE get even saying anything, he was up and standing behind her and massaging her shoulder.

No, get the fuck away for me. Do not touch me without my concern to save.

He told her to think of something sad while he was doing IT.

Why would I think of sad things while you're relieving tension for my body?

You fucking ait wlink SHE was like, I can't. I don't know what to think. Like what? So his response was, think of the two girls killed in put in the long time river. Yeah, i'd say, you know what? I've got ta go back to my dorm now.

Get the fuck away from me.

scream. The conversation progressed, and eventually the man mention that he believed people should be able to decide for themselves. What's right? wrong?

Oh yeah, that's a good idea.

And he was like, hard, disagree. And he said that to him, he was like, hard, disagree. Like that is not how the world works.

No, there is bad people in the world. Like bad people can't decide what's right, wrong. And he became irrationally angry at her for that, did not want to hear that. And the flare up of anger obviously made her very uncomfortable, scared. But IT wasn't until he mentioned that he needed to replace the engine and his car. That SHE really became uncomfortable, because he remembered that at least one of the women that had been found in the river had been bound to an engine when he was discovered. And he was, like, too much reading back here.

Why is he telling her of?

And IT gets worse, because the most alarming moment happened when, after they've been talking about the missing woman for a little, because he kept bring you back. Yeah, Jerry casually asked, and he was referring to her agreeing to meet him when he didn't know who he was. So he was, this is why I think he does the shit to make women look stupid.

Yeah, because he he invited her, he called her up, pretended to be the guy, got her to come there with him and now she's going to a shame her for because he said, what makes you want to be raped like the other girls? Oh my god. wow.

He casually said that, oh my god, referring to the fact like, well, you just showed up and met a stranger. What makes you on? He's like they must have to and again, he's blaming the other girls.

Like they must have wanted to holiday. And also.

like when they were going to a department that they like this.

came for a day and did not want that that does not mean that he wanted to be raped and those two girls, you took them against their will. What about .

it's so true? Like and that's why when he's doing this whole thing, like the story and the story out there for Linda si is like that he just came down stairs s and he was so weird. SHE had entire herself and she's just sitting there.

SHE didn't even try to call on the phone. SHE didn't even try to escape. Like that's the story that's everywhere you read and it's there's no like it's almost being like weird that you just like was fine with being in this guy's basement and like didn't try to get away.

And it's like, no, no, no, it's very clear that this is what he does. So he has clearly made her promises and kept her dowson with the hope of getting the fuck out of them yeah. And then he's going to turn around to the detectives and go fucked. And weird, he just like untied herself and didn't even try to escape.

You must not want IT IT. Well, I also was thinking, fuck you. And I also was thinking too, I feel like the fact that he took pictures of women almost like them, to believe that, like, he would let them go, because then he had some kind of black male over them. Exactly and they could just say, like, i'm not going to tell anybody you have those pictures of .

pictures i'm going to go, yeah like we have an equal thing here and i'm .

going and I have to do this yeah I can see why somebody photographing you like that, wouldn't to believe killing you exactly would actually lead you to believe, like i'm in, i'm in, I am in this position. I am, i'm going to take these pictures and then i'm going to get the fuck.

I'm just going to try to get myself out here. So I going at least try to get help, right? I'll do what he says to keep him calm, right?

Because he's also a big guy. That's the other thing. Even though Jerry u, he's a small guy. Well, small guy mentality like that.

He has the, he has the energy of a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, micro man, small tic energy, if you L D R, small tic, my god. But he's a big guy. He's a big, freckled man. I actually haven't looked up a picture of him. This entire house usually are something you just .

said about the way that he was just sitting there on the date with her and saying, like what he just said to her about, you know, well, what do you want to those girls? IT reminds me, I just watched the new ankeny c movie that SHE is. I heard the toral.

I heard great things about that woman of the hour just watched IT was so good. But IT reminds me of this one scene in the movie where he gets like upset with a girl that he's very much trying to kill. And IT just sent chills down my first fine, but ten out of ten recommend that would would be really good. I definitely want to watch that syria.

R, E, but that's that's the thing. I feel like this. If you look at piece of big Jerry, brutal is like a big b died fuck yeah he's and i'm sure they were trying to comply because he's a scary fuck and a foo a to be in in your in his world yeah so they really yeah so they're trying to just like comply, get the fuck out of there.

But I just pisses me off that this little asshole likes to make IT like, so what makes you think you wanted do this just like the other girls? And it's like, first of all, shut the fuck out, right? They didn't.

Nobody wants IT shot the fuck out. no. And it's like in you with a weird fuck who called her and did this and he met you in a public place. Okay.

honest campus. Yeah, exactly like she's SHE save you.

You're the one being a weird.

It's for the shock factor because you're immediately to imagine sitting across from somebody and hearing them saying you to immediately all you like you would start back .

of her and it's stood shame them ah it's to make her feeling comfortable, to make her feel like shame something. SHE is agreed to do this and he's a piece shot.

So where do we go from here? So after they've returned to the dorm because he walked her back to the dorm, uh, the man asked if he could see her again and he was like, I think about IT but as soon as he left, because you don't want to piss them off yeah like, I think about IT as soon as he left, he called a corvallis detective to report them. Which girl? That's my girl.

And they said, okay, here's what we want you to do. We want you to make another date with him. But we, who will be waiting for him when he comes to pick you up this poor so they were like, you don't have to go on the date you're accept to make a date with him and he didn't so SHE a few days later. He made a date for a few days later. And so SHE was like, come pick me up and when he came to pick up, detectives were waiting to .

question him. This might be my next favorite apprehension next to um fuck in the nights cki, well.

it's kind of this once layer because they didn't have anything on him yet, so they just questioning him. Still still love great. And he thought he was going on to date with this girl. But yes, but also was like cream. He was probably ly going .

to kill her when he was going to kill her two. Like did you guys put her in the fucking in? Witness protection progress didn't ask him after not where he lives.

The good news is this is what gets them on the radar. Him on the radar. So does this leads to his arrest, for sure.

So he gave detectives his name, but he provided a fake address and denied knowing anything about the murder of london care and or the disappearances and attempted abductions of other Young women. But still, detective jim stovall recalled that how jury quote attempted to play mind games with him during their interview. So there's dumb fuck things.

See smart too. Yeah I would be like, you're laugh like I wish that I hope they were just so fucking and mean to him. I would not mean this man until his future generations felt IT just ruin his life yeah according to stovl brutal, so use hypothetic tics, examples of what the killer could have done.

That struck a little too close to the truth to be coincidence. wow. yeah.

Giving if I did IT, I literally .

was just thinking that now, despite their suspicions, investigators had no crime that they could charge him live. Technically, you do anything in Jerry. You know, he was just kind of being weird and creepy, but you can really charge anyone with being weird and creepy.

So they had let them go. And in the week that had followed, they discovered that their instincts were probably right about brutus. Because a search of his name, they went like further in to his background.

IT turned up previous charges for assault and knapping, as well as his incarceration at the state hospital in his late teen. They also discovered in one thousand nine sixty arrest where Jerry was arrested for prowling around the organ state campus. Oh no, so brutal.

S also lived in close proximity to where the victims had been abducted from. So as they are putting all these things together, they're being like going to, right? Some is off here. He's got a record. Yeah, he was acting strange with us. He would be at trying to play mind games with a spit, get a little too close to the real details of shit and how he lives close to where they're abducted, like all the pieces are falling in. And his car wasn't a match for the one that had been identified in the attempted abduction of um like some of the Young woman who had gone away but his mother's car was and SHE had been known to he was known to have been staying with him at the time so he was going to abduct these this twelve year old, this fifteen year old, this twenty three year old in his and his mother's car and probably kill them in her car.

He probably got like some kick out of because .

obviously he hate at her.

That was for sure, part of IT the weird psychological .

layers about h yeah. So the information stovl in the other detectives managed to get together was enough to get a warrant. So they really did their due diligence after this meeting. Yeah, had to let him go, but they didn't let IT. They didn't let IT lie.

They went further and got enough to get a warn to arrest something or to search his home right? So they on may twenty six, one thousand nine hundred and sixty nine, stovl in a team of investigators arrived at Jerry brutal is front door, which is not good for him so the warrant to search the his house mention the sexual nature of the crimes in the specific ways in which the bodies had been disposive, including the use of the copper wire in the island cord, being very specific, very niche, and also the car parts that they've been bound to. In their search of the basement, investigators found copper wire and nyon court imagine, and they matched exactly to those found in the birders.

They also found industrial mechanical cloth, which matched the cloth that was discovered on Linda's body. wow. Now the materials discovered in the basement tied brutus to the missing and murdered women.

But the most damming evidence was the massive stash of photographs showing nude bodies dangling ling from a rope. That's a quote. And women's clothing discovered all over, like all, they found a massive stockpile of this stuff.

According to the press, many of the photos of women were taken from the neck down, so I was difficult to identify them or even determine whether they were alive when the picture was taken. That's horrifying. But at least one photo, a small image that was confident, ted, from jury's wallet he was Carrying in around with him, was a nude current sprinkle that's awful.

And he was like her face was in IT. Also, in many of the images, they found that there was a miro that he had laid on the ground underneath the women's bodies so that he could, like, dress them, hang them up and put a mere underneath their bodies so he could look up their addresses, oh god, you yeah. And in one of those specific photos with the mirror, there is an image of Jerry zone fucking face reflected back as he was taking the fucking photo.

He is so simple and IT is you can see the photograph. IT is just of his face, like they blue, not like a whole photo. It's just the part that his face, and it's haunting to look at because you are looking at the moments that this party.

like torturing someone.

is wild to look at somebody in the moment that like, they have no humanity yeah you know, you like that is just like they are their most a creature we can even for them. You know I mean, it's weird to be able to look at someone and in that photo be because of the flag ha, like something else that whatever happened and distorted his face a little so his eyes like blurt like this no oh, that's terrifying and is as the scary is part of him for something he is very beauty as evil looking as yeah and they're like a ray stuff is face it's just a child and I spine again yeah it's a very, very unsettling but he was a very specific thing about him that he put that mirror under there and take photos because you like having all the angles that's disgusting yeah so the discoveries in his home, more enough in a restaurant, I say so. And on may twenty eighth, Jerry brutus was arrested for the murder of Karen sprinkle in Linda si since had become a suspect two weeks earlier, or technically, Jerry had been under constant surveilLance, they were not letting him just walk around. And he was picked up after, and this is interesting, after officers pulled rafn over while he was driving his wife and found Jerry hidden under a blanket the back of the car.

huh and what they .

believed was that he was attempting to fully the .

state yeah SHE SHE was helping a mt.

That's that's interesting. Um a few days later, on june second, two additional murder charges were added for the murder of lindis lausen and jan Whitney, as well as a charge for assault well armed with a dangerous weapon related to the attempted kidnapping of the fifteen year old victim, SHE had identified brutal, says the man who tried a doctor. Good for her. What a good girl on june forth, the grand jury and died jury for the murder of Karen, to which he entered a plea not guilty by reason of insanity.

your gross.

but not unsaying up. The judge on the case about slopper accepted the plea but ordered that Jerry had to undergo psychiatric examination before proceeding with the case. Was like, okay, you want to claim they are insane, give me some experts that agree with you. great. So in a statement to the press, um Jerry is lawyer.

Dail drake told reporters that he expected the trial to begin sometime within the following four to six months because they were gonna gather all that um but at the same time district the attorney gary gorton maker was holding off on pursuing an entitled for the other three murders because he didn't want to be forced to reveal the details of those cases to the offense during the trial prep for of the current sprinkle case during discovery. Now by mid due, the evidence against Jerry brute U. S.

Had been piling up so IT seemed very unlikely that he was going to get away with murder yeah in addition to the photographs and women's clothing, investigators had discovered additional evidence indicating that at least two of the murder, those of je Whitney in lindsy, had occurred in Jerry home, right? Like at least those two had been murdered in his area in the manner of the deaths were listed as. And this just game late was very chilling to me. The of the deaths were listed as hands, rope and strap. H, I don't like, yeah.

ms is really upsetting.

What if death is only the beginning? In one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, england, a milk bank daughters lives are tragically cut short. When his wife later becomes pregnant, he makes a claim that is Frankly ery.

He says that his newborn e twins are his dead daughters reincarnated. Andy says he has proof, a true story hosted by writer, director and amy nominated actor will sharp. Under the circumstances, and believing he could successfully use an insanity defense, Jerry began providing detective stovall with details of the crimes because he was thinking, while i'm going to bleed and sand OK and he was careful to omit certain pieces of incremental evidence like the location of lindskog s body they not found in a yet um he did this under the mistaken assumption that they couldn't charge him with her murder if they couldn't find her body, which we know is incorrect when he wasn't meeting with his lords or detectives.

He was spending a lot of time with any of the seven state psychiatrists assigned to the case by the state. wow. In general, they observed what they described as, quote, a man who is agitated, intense, could not sits.

Stellar ern interview rose frequently to start, start around the interview room, and when he was CoOperative, the evaluating psychiatrists found him to be affable and targeted, saying that he spoke with grandiosity and immaturity, and peered his conversations with unnecessary details. A truck, because he is winning secret IT. The doctors also noted that Jerry seemed to demonstrate an appropriate range of emotional responses when discussing most objects, except when he talked about the deaths of the victims. And he said, they said, dairy. They all said during that time he showed no emotion at all.

That's really theory.

totally human, except when he was speaking about the death of them where he didn't give a shit. In fact, in one case he called, I believe I was Linda si. He referred to her as as inconsequent to him as a Candy rapper. What the fun?

And the fact that he can't even IT seems like he can't even .

pretend to care no, any no attempt to he just like now that care dark yeah and he said he told them, I act the way I do because everybody takes advantage of me and that's how he described why he was such a violent predator. That's not true. And he was to take advantage of IT was clear to the evaluating psychiatrist that his behavior stem from his very bad and very abusive relationship with his mother in particular.

But as far as Jerry was concerned, he attacked, killed women because his wife couldn't meet his sexual needs. Okay, he said SHE won't dress up like the other women do and that makes me feel sorry for myself. Making feels sorry .

really though also like, hey, there's this thing called divorce. Yes, also this thing called there's many other women on this planet. So like if that's a kink that you have talk about, IT figured out you get married to somebody and like, figure that whole part of yourself.

Just the fact that when someone says, and then I made me feel sorry for myself, groups, completely negative groups, whatever saving you made before that I give a fuck. IT made me feel sorry for myself. Shut up.

up. Just another way to blame another woman. Of course, like always, it's women's.

I matter her for china. Yeah, drive him pasting lines. But I am also sorry for her for that .

for for just always trying to blame but in in his evaluation report to the prosecution doctor, guy carvers summarized Jerry as follows. In psychiatric examination, he was obviously anxious, agitated and depressed. He cried frequently, saying he was sick and that he could not have help.

Throughout the detailed discussion of his crimes, he appeared very pro occupied, emotionally detached, and quite certain that these things had to be done. No, in general, I did not find any evidence of a psychotic process or evidence of perception disturbances. His cognitive processes are very well maintained, and he he was able to give details of past.

In recent events, he shows poor and faulty social judgment, and certainly has no insight into the basic his basic emotional problems. IT is my clinical opinion that mister brutus understands the nature of the charges against him and can assist in his own defense. This man has a paranoid disorder and his behavior is a product of that disorder.

Yeah, despite this, I believe he can differentiate between what is morally and socially right and wrong. Hundred percent. All the other examining psychiatrists had basically the same opinion. And you said there was a yeah.

They all noted that while Jerry did appear to meet the diagnostic cattery for a psychotic disorder, he was certainly capable of knowing that his behavior and perspectives were socially unacceptable and in certain cases, criminally unacceptable. Also, at least one of the psychiatrist, doctor George sucka, noted that on all three occasions, mister, that mister brutus has requested psychiatric help in his life. He has been in difficulty with the law.

So as he saw, Jerry was savy enough to use his psychiatric history to his benefit, citing his a mental illness whenever he was in trouble. That's pretty savy. That is. However, he also wrote, though he does describe some rather elaborate fantasies of a sadistic nature towards women in particular, none of these is extensive enough or involved enough to qualify, in my opinion, is being delusions, since he clearly understands that they are not real. yeah.

Now, in simple terms, Jerry brutus may have been a violent sex offender and burder who saw himself as being above the standards of others, but he was well aware of what he was doing. And when he committed the murder that he was charged for, he was fully, he knew what was going on. Yeah, knew what he was wrong.

He was fine with that right in in fact, several of the psychiatrist who evaluated him diagnosed him with an anti social personality disorder. I noted that there was no known treatment for such individuals so um in George suc road in the convoluted medical lease of the psychiatrist john Henry brutus was quite sane and eminently dangerous in the language of the man on the street. He was a monster.

He would always be a monster. He certainly is. So he's saying this guy is a monster and he can never be cared. This is, he is, and you cannot you .

just wonder, like what's missing?

What like what peace is missing? I think the more we see these things, the more I am convinced childhood is so, so vital to who you become. Something gets broken in a very specific way by a very specific set of treatments or or situations that you are in when you are in a perfect state of of development.

I don't even know if it's just to go because that happens and people turn out fine.

but that's what I mean. I think IT has to be a perfect storm. I think IT has to be at a certain I think we don't know what that one spot development is that if you fuck IT up your fucked. I think we can't pin point .

to you when I wonder if it's like you it's hard like like articulate, but I wonder if it's that but also like if not everybody has that thing that you can fuck up, you know I mean, like I feel like they have like the the people like this who do things like this, like Jerry brutal said, there's got to be something in them already like I truly believe that there's got to be something innately wrong with you from the jump that then I I I feel like i'm a pretty firm believer that it's nature and nature .

at the same time. I agree. I think I mean, when you look at his mother, any mother who can actively hurt their child yeah and like neglect their child and show that and like abuse their child and you know you should tell them basically that they're not worth what the other child is.

There's something broken in that person oh so and it's like, so obviously something could you absolutely be in there are biologically and genetically that's just broken, right? But you wonder where IT all starts? What what is?

How far back? Not only yeah, not only do I wonder how far back that starts, but what is that peace? And I I wish there was like, I feel like someday we will figure IT out.

We need to, like, follow a line. yeah. K and you need to, like, first determine where every where you see these little bits and pieces of things to what is this coming through the maternal side.

Maternal side is that both doesn't matter. IT does a skip. A generation does go every three generations. That you see is that every generation.

and I just got to be some kind of like stimulus, where likes extremely, where something like one part of the brain connects with another part that is not supposed to give in a certain .

yeah response is only half way that is disrupted or is by created or created you know like something is happening. Yes, I I just wanted know what that makes IT because it's like an obviously, if we knew what I was, we could stop these things from happening .

before happened. Well, I just wondered like how many studies are being done on incarcerated series because I think like I would be happy to fucking fund that just .

to find out for real, like I would love to be able I just want to see and it's something to look into and I think we should look into like what what studies are being currently done on this kind of yeah.

let's look into that a little.

What are we looking at? Well.

there's there's gotta be some psychology behind this soul. There's gotta some something .

in the there's physiology. There's that I feel like there's so many things happening.

but I feel like work for .

sure there's GTA be some common .

red yeah just .

that no one's been able to find because it's like finding a thread in a hazy no.

we need to gather like three to five truckin monsters and just study the fuck out of their brains while they are still living. No, IT would be a very hard study to conduct.

You know.

very hard. I like I be dangerous, so sure, but I just there's got to be something and I just I just wanted know what this .

kind of stuff is fascinating IT, because I really is because likely always like they're not always from my home like this, you know? no.

Or there's there's things that I mean, there's things that I hear in certain stories that I can relate to. I'm like I not a serial clear exactly.

That's why I think it's just just got to be a perfect storm, yes, of things that once IT all meets, it's like all the boxes get ticked in an explosion happens yeah and I I don't .

know my brain is a really rambling now because I also like why is IT more often men than like obviously there are women serial killers but it's so but IT has after yeah so it's it's something within like within chrome .

be like like could this .

be just I just want to .

know about this, like he really is and he's really one of those. Like this is like what the fuckyou will are just a straight up monster yeah but then you look at this background and yeah some shady things going on there, but then you go back to that whole thing of.

like a lot of people have shaddy upbringing. Yeah, I find him to be really similar to ted bundy. Yeah, especially with like the acropolis a like that kind of thing.

Like, but then you got like hillside stranglers.

Yeah.

definitely he's got some P, T, K, and there.

yup.

definitely he's got. And that's the thing you look at all. And he was before A B, T, K, right? Yeah, yeah.

I mean, I think B, T, K was like killing at that point. But yeah, not caught. He was in the seventies.

yeah. So he wasn't going yet. What was IT going was sixty nine. He was just about to start. So by mid june, Jerry had entered similar plays of not guilty by reason of insanity and the endangered for the murder of je, Whitney and Sally. But by the time the psychiatric evaluation started off flowing in, IT was clear that, uh, he was not onna have anything to back that up? Definitely no expert witnesses, no testimony, no evidence, no digits. So we had no a choice but to change as police on june twenty seven, one thousand nine hundred and sixty nine, just three days before his trial for the murder of current sprinkle jury changed to pleaded a guilty on all three counts of murder. There is at the time the prosecution didn't have enough evidence to get entity ment for the murder of lda slaws, so that charge was dropped.

That always makes so you .

know what he did ah they just can't get like the official pay amount. When judge slopper us for confirmation, defense attorney del drag said the defense had exhausted every legal remedy for providing brutus with the defense, and he added the state's evidence talked with statements but made by brutal his defense team. So when slobber address bw dos directly and asked why he was changing his plea, Jerry said, well, because I did IT well, that was the very first.

Simple as that, he waved his right to .

to a delay between conviction and sentencing as well. So judge sloper imposed three life sentences, each running consecutively, putting brutal jail for the rest of his life's. On july twenty eight, just one month after he was sentenced, the body of jane Whitney was discovered tied to a piece of railroad irons submerged in the William river.

That same day, the prosecutor's office released a statement to the pressing sing, although he had confessed they would not be pursuing a case against brutus for the murder of Linda. Often they said we have no substantiation, so they just were having trouble getting the pieces together. He, unfortunately, in this israeli heart breaking lind's lawson remains, were never recovered.

Ian brutus refused to tell investigators where he had disposed of her body. What a dush. So the sentences handed down, the jury brought a lot of relief, especially to women in orion right um as well as for the families of the victims but many were very concerned though because the sentences still allowed for parole. I was just thinking, yeah under the terms of his sentence Jerry could be legible for parole in as little as ten years. Ow is content upon .

the adjustment he .

makes during the interview is what I said. In response to the committees concerns, organ parole board chairman jack wisemen released a statement saying there they'll be a continual study of the case over the course of his imprisonment to evaluate .

his threat level .

before parole could even be considered all times um and he said there must be sufficient learning, adjustment, emotional, social and psychological on the part of brutus before he would be a proper candidate for serious peril even consideration so that's nice. But still the idea of IT is still scary. And those families who are probably freaking the fuck out, of course, as IT happened, Jerry brutal s became a model prisoner.

Once he started serving his sentence. He joined of our programs. He even took on a clerical job at the organ state penetre, but he did remain a target for the other prisoners, particularly those who targeted sex offenders and sexual killers, including one incident thousand, nine hundred and seventy eight, when he was stabbed a lot by a fellow.

And may I just love A A lot? But he lived, unfortunately, throughout his nearly four decades in prison. Jerry was considered for parole a number of times, but each time he was denied. I go through right lengthy process.

It's not like they, just like you.

the number that must have done in their nervous systems to have to be in fighter flight for that long.

like every years on end. Ah and then just wondering how long until the next one?

In june one thousand ninety five, after repeated parole hearings, the board informed Jerry brutus he was no longer eligible for parole due to his complete inability to show considerable evidence of rehabilitation. They said, this is the state board chair, marva. Fabian told him, you will be in prison for the rest of your life and there will be no future per hearing icon. But Jerry did try to appeal before the parole board every two years despite them saying this and despite never demonstrating even an answer ver morse for his crimes.

It's like that's all you have to do.

Yeah no, i'm glad was incapable. yeah. On march twenty eight, two thousand and six, Jerry brutal died in the infirmary at the organ state penitentiary after a long, terrible battle with liver cancer karma.

His death was a big relief to many of the victim's families who lived with constant anxiety that you just never know that they had to let him out for something, jane witness sister Cindy ellia told a reporter, i'm feeling relief. You hate to say you're glad that someone is dead, but my family believes that should have happened years ago. And to that I say, fucking at here here, and you don't have to feel about at all. No, he took because you loved one bock, that guy, yeah. And he was a blight on humanity and continued to terrorize .

your poor family. I don't think .

you should feel about one bit. You wanted tell people where IT likes Lindau's s family. Never had her body to vary, never had her anything first to say. Absolutely .

devastating. Yeah.

he did. He was the last little power he could take where? And he took IT to the grave, fucked back. I unreal what would do.

What a wild story. I never. I don't know if I knew all the details of that.

To be honest. He's really bad yeah like he's really bad one yeah yeah he's a piece shit yeah and i'm glad he's dead and we're glad .

to be rid .

of him um by breast .

and distress Jerry.

truly don't rest at all. No, be tormented for the rest of your life. Yeah your afterlife yeah.

wow. Thanks for that. Well, if you want a panzer, go buy tickets to that and something. And we hope you keep listening.

and we hope you keep .

listen to the show. And you're doing that yet, yet. Get out of your eyes.
