Santa tells 'The Carol Singers', 'The Sock Puppet', and 'The Tell-Tale Scarf'.
The first story, 'The Carol Singers', is about a boy whose grandfather and father go door-to-door playing Christmas music and begging for money. One Christmas Eve, they encounter a mysterious woman who offers them a glass of blood, leading to a tragic event.
The rich man raises the rent during the potato blight to further exploit the starving villagers, showing his ruthless and miserly nature.
The rich man's family is found dead in their home, with their heads twisted off and placed in their hands like puppets, except for the daughter, whose severed head is balanced on her hand with the sock puppet.
The final story is about a boy named Isaac who feels watched by Death while shoveling snow. He eventually confesses to causing an accident that injured his cousin Mason, and Death lets him go.
The sock puppet, given as a Christmas present to the rich man's sickly daughter, seems to possess a malevolent force that leads to the deaths of the entire family.
The main theme is the consequences of greed and the supernatural retribution faced by those who exploit others, as seen when the grandfather drinks blood from a mysterious woman and dies.
Isaac feels watched by Death, who seems to be observing him from the window of the abandoned Samson house, creating a sense of dread and paranoia.
The scarf becomes a symbol of Isaac's guilt and fear, eventually tightening around his neck as if it has a life of its own, representing the Grim Reaper's attempt to take him.
Isaac confesses to causing an accident that injured his cousin Mason, and Death lets him go, leaving him alive but haunted by his confession.
