Shownotes Transcript

In this episode, we chat with Brian Hosking, Director and CEO of Gold & Minerals Company (GMCO) who were established in 2009 to explore and develop gold and base metals projects in the Arabian Nubian Shield area of Saudi Arabia. There are 2 major projects with a further 20 exploration licenses under the application.

Brian has a long career in the mining industry and even worked in the headhunting space so I’m keen to hear more about his background, the work GMCO has done, mining in Saudi Arabia, and what the outlook is for the company. We discuss how the mining industry is developing in Saudi Arabia and what companies need to be wary of if they are looking to explore in the country.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • GMCO's Background: GMCO, a mining company in Saudi Arabia, was established in 2009 to explore and develop gold and base metal projects in the Arabian Shield area.
  • The Saudi government is highly supportive of the mining industry, providing infrastructure, regulatory support, and enabling a conducive environment for exploration and development.
  • While there is a need for international expertise in the mining industry in Saudi Arabia, there is also a focus on developing local talent through training programs and internships.
  • GMCO is focused on continued growth and development, with plans to expand their projects, engage with the community, and contribute to the mining sector in Saudi Arabia.

BEST MOMENTS

"I think the challenge is to grow this industry. And we've been lucky in the sense that, you know, Gold and Minerals kind of restarted, if that's the right word, at a time when the government of Saudi Arabia recognised the need to develop this industry."

"Watch this space. There are, I think some, we're looking forward to some exciting developments in the next six to twelve months, but you know, there is, as they say in the classics, many a slip between cup and lip."

"We're no longer a junior company, we're a development company. When you look at our financial backing, there's no way you could describe us as a junior. We're a company in development and we will continue to grow."
