Ukraine: Security forces take back control of Kharkiv

After pro-Russian activists seized three cities in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv), Ukrainian security forces were sent to the cities to control the situation, where it appears that the Ukrainians have taken back the -control of public buildings in Kharkiv. However in Luhansk, the activists managed to obtain weapons and in Donetsk they even declared a People's Republic and called for a referendum on 11 May.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for US Secretary of State John Kerry called on Russia to publicly disassociate itself from the activities of the separatists. She warned that further actions by Russia intended to destabilize Ukraine will carry consequences. For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia has no intention of invading, but warned Ukraine not to use force against pro-Russian activists.
