Three companies bid for public transport
When Monday closed the call for expression of interest for the operation of public transport in our country, in total there were three companies that submitted their offer and another that arrived after the time had expired and after that the process was closed in public.
Information that MaltaRightNow has is that there was an offer from Unscheduled Bus Service, another from a Maltese company also which seems to be owned by Gozitan and a Spanish company. The name of the other company whose bid arrived late is not known.
In a statement, issued by the Department of Information (DOI), it was said that as the period during which companies or individuals had the chance to submit their offer has now closed, the next step is to evaluate the submissions of the bidders.
Joe Mizzi, the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure said that the aim is for the company that is chosen to be a serious one that provides a sustainable service, a service that meets the needs of the public and that leads to a further increase in patronage
He said that one wants a service that one can rely on, an efficient service that also considers the economic and social aspect.
Meanwhile, in response to a Parliamentary question by Architect Toni Bezzina, the Nationalist Party's spokesperson on Transport, Minister Joe Mizzi said that during the first three months since the Government took over the service - public transport the Government made a loss of 2.2 million euros per month which means a loss of 6.6 million euros in three months.
