Ordered to do 100 hours of community work after admitting 10 charges
23-year-old Tonio Grixti from Valletta, in addition to being given a probation order, was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid community work after admitting the 10 charges brought against him, which included lightly injuring another person, who caused damage to Police property and became a repeat offender.
Grixti admitted that he slightly injured Robert Norman Cauchi, broke the door of his cell, threatened Police officers, was drunk in public, violated the public peace, gave misleading information to the Police and became a repeat offender.
The incident happened in the early hours of last Saturday outside an establishment in Paceville. Grixti apologized to the Police for his actions and gave his word that he would not repeat similar incidents.
The Court took into account the fact that in the past Grixti had already been fined and placed under probation for a period of six months on charges of offending public morals and using obscene words.
"Apparently you didn't take the lesson more than once. The worst thing is that you ended up drunk, you injured another person, you disobeyed the legitimate orders of the Police and you vented your anger on private property," the Magistrate told Grixti.
Magistrate Aaron Bugeja warned Grixti for his actions. He was told that if he thought the arrest was not justified, he should have acted in a different way and did not like the officers.
He was placed on three years' probation along with community service. The Prosecution was led by Inspector Trevor Micallef.
