It would have been better if we had worked for the second interconnector
The new BWSC Power Station in Delimara, which is more efficient and flexible, has already given excellent results not only in reducing the cost of electricity generation, but also in reducing emissions through advanced technology. This plant would go perfectly with the interconnector which was used with all its capacity to produce 200MW of energy at lower prices than the energy generated in Malta.
The electricity from the interconnector can be bought at such a low price of 8c/unit and this will be energy generated elsewhere, ie without any emissions in our country. “The result? Cheaper tariffs but also cleaner air". This is what Melanie Hart claimed in the opinion she wrote in the past few days in The Times of Malta, with the title " Get a second Interconnector ". Hart worked for four years as a Public Relations Officer of the Enemalta Corporation.
In her article, she explained the maximum energy consumption today in Malta in Winter and Summer, as well as what Enemalta is generating with the Delimara Power Station , including with the new plant which a Nationalist Government invested in to meet this demand. She said that by the end of this year, when the interconnector is scheduled to be finished and then Marsa will be closed, this would be more than enough.
