In an interview Wednesday at TechCrunch's Strictly VC event in San Francisco, Graber suggests that any future advertising would be user-centric and less intrusive.
Less than a year after OpenAI softened its stance on using its models for military purposes, the JetGPT maker announced a partnership with defense startup Anduril Industries to develop AI for the Pentagon. The companies will combine OpenAI's models, including GPT-4-0 and OpenAI-01, with Anduril systems and software to improve the U.S. military's defenses against unpiloted aerial attacks.
An OpenAI spokesperson told The Washington Post that the deal complies with the company's rules because it focuses on systems that defend against pilotless aerial threats. The spokesman also said the partnership does not cover any other uses.
Three key members of Google's Notebook LM team, including its lead and designer, have departed to launch a new startup. Former team lead Razia Martin, along with designer Jason Spielman and engineer Stephen Hughes, have expressed their belief in a significant opportunity to innovate in the AI space. While the startup remains in stealth mode, offering only a minimal website, it's unclear whether it will continue the work of Notebook LLM, known for AI-powered podcasting and note-taking, or pursue a different direction.
In comments to TechCrunch, Martin gave few details but hinted that the startup would be consumer-facing, emphasizing the team wanted to create something that leverages the latest AI models to build something useful to regular people.
Reuters sources say that TSMC is in discussions with NVIDIA to produce its Blackwell artificial intelligence chips at the contract manufacturer's new plant in Arizona. NVIDIA's Blackwell chips are currently manufactured at TSMC's facilities in Taiwan. TSMC and NVIDIA declined comment, but it finalized the agreement would schedule production at the Arizona plant for early next year.
Meta's Threads has taken an important step towards true Fediverse integration. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads users can now follow Fediverse accounts on Threads, though accounts aren't searchable and their posts won't show in feeds. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said on Threads, you can follow people from other Fediverse servers who have interacted with federated users or posts on Threads. You can see their posts by navigating to their profile, and you can also choose to be notified when they post on their server.
Amazon announced Thursday that it has successfully completed an initial test of drone delivery in Italy, the first country in Europe where the company has introduced the service. The test was carried out on Wednesday in San Salvo, a town in the central Abruzzo region. Amazon had hoped to start using drones in Italy by late 2024. In a statement, Amazon said the company continues to work with the Italian authorities to meet all the requirements needed to launch the service next year.
Microsoft has closed the door on Windows 11 supporting older hardware, stating that its TPM 2.0 requirement for Windows 11 is non-negotiable. In a blog post entitled TPM 2.0, A Necessity for a Secure and Future-Proof Windows 11, Microsoft makes it very clear that it won't lower Windows 11's strict hardware security requirements
to encourage people to upgrade from Windows 10. Despite the requirements, there have been several workarounds over the years to allow Windows 11 to run on unsupported hardware. Microsoft didn't apply a hardware compliance check initially for virtualized versions of Windows 11, but the company has been gradually locking down the upgrade and setup process in recent years, especially with the 24H2 update to Windows 11.
Google Photos is rolling out a new feature called Undo Device Backup designed to make managing cloud storage and photo backups easier. First reported by Android Authority back in June, Undo Device Backup offers streamlined solutions for those who want to free up space on their Google Cloud Storage. It allows users to delete all photos and videos backed up from a specific device without affecting the local copies on that device. Undo Device Backup is currently rolling out to iOS users with an Android release plan in the near future.
And finally, TikTok has teamed up with Nielsen to provide advertisers with a unified view of ad performance across digital, cable TV, and linear platforms. This partnership aims to help advertisers measure TikTok's impact on overall audience reach and optimize ad placements across various media.
TikTok notes that capturing audience engagements on TikTok is critical as people move across different platforms and devices. Nielsen says it's equipped to deliver cross-media measurement via Nielsen One, a platform that provides insights to audience measurement across platforms.
