Publisher's Summary: The desire to pray is itself a passage into prayer. Jesuit Fr. Thomas Green issues a friendly invitation to act on that desire, to become a person of prayer. He offers approaches that prepare one for an encounter with God, approaches that will encourage the beginner and strengthen and renew those whose prayer life needs revitalization.
Members Reviews: awesome! It's an amazing book that shows us that prayer is more than something that we do; rather, it's a two-way communication between us and God. The chapters on the irrelevance and relevance of prayer hit the target on the proper understanding of prayer. The section on "how to pray" is extremely valuable. The author teaches the two different approaches of meditation and contemplation. For the most part, I have been practicing meditation and I have recently felt that perhaps that was inadequate and that I needed to practice contemplation. I feel much more comfortable now knowing that one method is not necessarily better than the other and that they are for different types of people, though I still feel that we should include both in our prayers. The one aspect that I wish the author would address more fully is how to discernment what we receive as from God or from our own thoughts and ideas.
Opening to God: A Guide to Prayer Whoa, this is a wonderful book about prayer. This book was written by a missionary-priest Thomas Green who provides great insights about prayer that we should have known about but was never taught. Every New Christian should read it since it will strengthen your prayers and your confidence that God hears them. The book gives you information we are never told in Church. I saw so many great prayer warriors in my life and wished I was like them when I say a prayer. I felt that my prayer life did not even come close to theirs. Now I know differently because of the words within the small book. My prayer life is stronger from the insight given in this book that I should know about and did not. Buy it, read it and you will not be disappointed. Then you will want to buy extra copies to give out to family and friends. I am serious about this â buy it and find out yourself.
I certainly recommend this book for anyone but especially for those who ... Outstanding book. Read it on retreat and could hardly put it down. Certainly helps one to listen and sit still and know that God is God. I certainly recommend this book for anyone but especially for those who are experiencing what is known as desolation.
Good foundation for prayer This is a good book on prayer for the beginner. I am not catholic but I believe there are riches in God's church no matter our tradition. This book helps you tap into the resources on prayer from the Catholic Church and ignatian spirituality.
