Title: First Epistle of Clement to the Corinthians Author: First Epistle of Clement Narrator: Gerard VanHalsema Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 43 mins Language: English Release date: 01-06-16 Publisher: CCEL Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity

Publisher's Summary: The First Epistle to the Corinthians claims no author except "the Church of God which sojourns at Rome", but the early church unanimously attributed it to Clement of Rome. This letter had a profound impact on the early church and was commonly read aloud to congregations even through the fourth century - a fact that demonstrates the letter's importance to the early believers and the endurance of the call to repentance found within its pages. Little is known about Clement of Rome. Some believe he was the companion of Paul mentioned in Philippians 4:3. He is also listed as the fourth Pope, according to Catholic tradition - Pope Saint Clement I. While many details are uncertain, it is clear that Clement was a prominent Christian leader who worked closely with the apostles and cared deeply for the church. As the believers experienced increasing persecution by the Roman Empire, writings like this one helped them persevere. May it do the same for you.

Members Reviews: Content is good, but formatting is terrible I'm giving this particular kindle version of Clement's first epistle to the Corinthians a 3 star only because the formatting is poorly done. Line breaks were inserted after every line break in the original book, rather than just at paragraph breaks. It will not flow to fit your kindle properly no matter what text size you select. I found it annoying enough to purchase another kindle version edited by Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson that has proper formatting, though not annotated with verse references.

Good read This little book is worth your time if reading a letter written around the time of the first church interests you. You will finish it very quickly.

A great example of an uninspired 'epistle' It struck me that the early church used the Bible for exhortation in much the same way we do. Examples from the old testament are used to reinforce new testament teaching. Also the phrase elect is used quite a bit. Clement believed in election.

This was a really helpful read It was really helpful to read early Christian literature and to see the same themes displayed in the bible but to also see a respect for the bible.

going through the church fathers Pretty amazing to trace down through the church fathers... Isa 60:17 actually says God would pick righteous deacons and bishops at least in the Septuagint Not sure how Martin Luther read this and still broke away. This whole book is about respecting church authority for peace. Anyway I'm no scholar just tracing through the apostolic succession so o speak to see how those picked by the apostles interpreted the books of Corinthians. Again pretty amazing where Protestant churches and hard core cults like Jehovah's Witness have ended up doing their own thing. 3500 denominations and counting. And 66 books in their bibles...very bad number.
