As individuals we have to be able to gauge in a healthy way how much we are demanding of ourselves. In many ways as children, demands are put on or for us by parents, teachers or coaches. In a lot of ways this shapes what we demand of ourselves as we grow up and become adults. Newfound freedoms of adulthood though can leave us floating day by day, however when we forget to evaluate what we ask of ourselves.
The demands that exist in adulthood can leave us haggard and feeling burnt out especially when it isn’t tied to a purpose or something we see the practicality in. Other times a lack of demands can leave us unfulfilled constantly seeking out more in places or activities that only offer short term happiness.
It can become easy to be too easy or too hard on ourselves. The trick is finding a sweet spot in the middle. Some place where you feel challenged, and rewarded by both failure and accomplishment. Without a demanding life we can leave earth with regret that we potentially didn’t do more with the time we had.
