Goals are just dreams without a plan. The ability to dream and think big is key to living the most amazing life that you set out for yourself, however there’s a catch. You have to have some semblance of reality in order to reach said goals. There are details, planning and an aspect of reality that you have to be in touch with in order to achieve said dreams. Both are necessary, but one without the other can leave you in a pretty precarious spot. If you’re too realistic on one hand, you may never dare to dream, always seeing big tasks and challenges as insurmountable. If you are constantly dreaming and living at 10,000 feet it can be nearly impossible to put rubber to the road and really get the things done when the time comes.

Today, we discuss the ability to close the gap between dreams and reality, something that we have struggled with for a long time. Dreaming is often easy for many, but being realistic about those dreams and setting in place the plans to achieve them that’s a whole nother story. Oftentimes it can be easy to never check yourself, or hold yourself accountable with how you are currently operating. In any goal or plan this is a perfect recipe for failure or never even starting at all. As we begin to assess where we lie on the spectrum between dreams and reality we have to start by being vulnerable and honest with where we are at and what it may take to close the gap.

As you look to close the gap in your own life, take some time to gracefully assess where you are currently at. Rome wasn’t built in a day and the gap between dreams and reality most of the time feels even greater than Rome so cut yourself som slack. Keep your dreams in mind as you begin to sketch out the plans necessary to make them a reality. The why behind those dreams will keep you going even when plans seems most off course or reality seems too daunting to overcome. By expressing your dreams and your realities on a daily basis you will become closer to both of them, so close in fact that they will ultimately meld into one.
