Continuing the style of their cartoon of The Hobbit, this one skips past the first two Lord of the Rings books with alarming brevity and wraps up the story with more Glenn Yarbrough ditties along the way.
Frodo Baggins (Orson Bean) and Samwise (Roddy McDowall) try to dispose of a magic ring in the fires of Mount Doom. Gollum (Brother Theodore) has other ideas.
The voice acting in Return of the King feels richer than in The Hobbit, but the narrative is far too rushed cramming a large book into a short running time. Yarbrough's songs are as touching as ever, especially "Road Goes Ever, Ever On".
