Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss the animated feature film The Emperor's New Groove from 2000. Originally developed as a more serious epic romance, one of the original directors was fired off the project. Executives worked with the remaining director to craft a light, frothy buddy comedy with a lot less music. The end result is a slick cartoon that often feels more like vintage Warner Bros. than something from the House of Mouse. A swell voice cast (John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, David Spade, Patrick Warburton) helps move the plot along while the songs from Sting are forgettable at best. Also discussed is the unreleased documentary The Sweatbox, which details The Emperor's New Groove's tortured development process.
