Shownotes Transcript

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Superman, the first of four live-action feature films featuring the late Christopher Reeve as the titular Man of Steel. Fresh off his success with The Omen, director Richard Donner helmed what would be considered the first movie based off a comic book with a big budget and a respectable cast. Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) is trying to hijack a pair of missiles to cleave off California into its own land mass. Superman (Christopher Reeve) has to stop him with the help of intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and crackshot photographer Jimmy Olsen (Marc McClure). Superman is a bit of an overstuffed movie, but it's so charming it's difficult not to like.

Mat found Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi to be an interesting romp in a galaxy far, far away. It took some chances with its story, but only time will tell if Star Wars Episode IX will be more conventional. Thrasher though the new live-action Justice League movie was "fine" and an improvement over Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel.
