Released a mere three years after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, director J.J. Abrams sets up a zippy adventure introducing new characters and returning favorites in a plot that's highly reminiscent of Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope. Acting and special effects are good, but the ending's the worst kind of tease. Much like Abrams' first Star Trek feature, the most exciting thing about it is the promise it brings to the future of the franchise.
