Sharpening requires FRICTION. No axe, knife, razor can have a refined edged without friction so it is as a leader. Friction comes in community and culture. When we surround ourselves with people who rub us the wrong way we have an opportunity to be sharpened. Leaders must be willing to ask the tough questions, not of their team, but of themselves. Am I leading well? Am I caring for others in my charge? Am I compassionate? Am I willing to learn? Am I correctable? In community you can be sharpened ONLY if you give people permission to answer those questions for you, with honesty. Who do you allow to correct you?
